Shelbourne vs. Crystal Palace match thread

This is what type we need now. If we are to compete at the top you need to be technical in the middle of the park. Not big bruisers as they get torn apart on the deck. DK fits that mould of technical like Wharton.
Nail on head

Feels like there is some catching up required by some section of the fan base. Constantly calling for someone who can 'tackle better'. Or puts themselves 'about more'.

If we want to progress, a midfield tackler is literally the opposite type of player we want in the team. The hardworking try hards are what keeps you in the division. Not move you up.

We need smart technical players. They may get bullied in the odd game, or misplace a few passes but that is what we are aspiring to.

Our evolution started with Anderson and Guehi, technically great, but lacking a little aerially or physically. And we are progressing well.

I agree with much of this.

However, physicality is still very important in the game.
For example Arsenal have only really become genuinely title contenders since employing more physical methods and becoming less reliant on their tippy tappy football.
Man City lost their way last season in the absence of the physically dominant Rodri and Chelsea never look the same when tough tackling Caceido is absent with injury.

This is particularly the case if you play with a back 4 because ,in the absence of a defensive midfielder ,opponents can get at the central defence unchallenged.

This may be of less importance with us as we have the extra protection of a third centre back.
Nonetheless Lerma started a few games for us recently and some had him down as man of the match because his physicality played a significant role for us.
With regard to Hughes I think it's simplistic to suggest he's favoured by fans merely because he throws in the odd tough tackle.
He's accomplished technically, rarely gives the ball away and is in the main a progressive passer looking to get us on the front foot.
Kamada has good energy, positional sense and reads the game well.
I don't really mind who starts as I feel all have a role to play.

Gregor Robertson in today's paper describing Adam as a genius particularly in regard to his passing under high intensity pressure.

But he also has the ability to know when to put his foot on the ball and slow things down to allow the rest to re-group or just take a quick breather....

I guess the thing is that with the way we play, we dont give up any space through the middle.

For exampleIn the above Glasner highlights that City's main danger was finding space in the pocket between the midfield and defence, the way to limit that was to make sure our 6's (Wharton and Kamada) applied pressure, but didn't get pulled out of of that whole to leave space. Helping us to control the middle without the ball.

Its why we often see Kamada/Hughes, push out 5 foot, initiate a bit of pressure and then back away again. Some will view it as our CM being too passive, when in reality they are too smart to fall for the space creating traps.

Agree with this but There are few players that are both. In the past there was the mark hughes, Wayne Rooney, big fat frank etc as the type who had talent and physicality in play in and around the midfield at least. Now with refs and rules these type would be a card a game so Will hughes is about as hard a Player as it gets. That’s where the more technical keep men on the pitch. I loved the micky droy type of Braun and a little talent but imo their days are over; in the PL anyway.
