Shelbourne vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Mainz and samsunspor play each other so win our last game and we're gaurenteed top 8
It does not guarantee it unfortunately as AEK and Palace are at +5, Fiorentina +4, they could both leapfrog us with goal difference. This is provided we win, and all others in front win as well, which is not guaranteed at all...

Really pleased with Uche + Esse tonight they can be proper players for us in the future. That being said Shelbourne are absolute dross. Not even sure if they beat Macclesfield....

Decent performance, great result. Good to see players taking their chance to perform. Uche starting to look useful and I thought Esse looked improved. If I'm greedy I'd say it's a shame we didn't get a few more as GD could be very important for a top 8 finish. Particularly a shame that Esse chance didn't go in.

Atmosphere at the end looked good and nice seeing the players enjoying themselves with the fans.

Second half has shown, why Kamada gets the starts. Hughes has many qualities, but picking a forward pass isn't one of them. Both playing against the same opposition and Kamada is much more influential.
Agreed. Kamada gets a lot of stick here but he’s a class act and his forward passing in tight spaces from midfield created 2 of the goals tonight. We didn’t have the same threat on the wings without Muñoz so playing through the middle was key. We were less effective without Kamada and Wharton.

Agreed but I’m pretty sure we are guaranteed at least a playoff place. A win could be enough for top 8, particularly if we bang in some goals. I think our goals scored is keeping us ahead of the other 9 point clubs, so basically match or better what they do.

If we win v Kups then we're 97% through cos of the Mainz v Samsumspor game - win well and it's 98%, five of the teams above us would all have to win plus being outscored by the other teams on 9 points - the dark horses are Celje, although their GD is 4 inferior to ours they're at home to Shelbourne, and on tonight's evidence cud score a hatful. Kups need a result to qualify, a win to have a realistic chance, so they may leave a bit of space for us unless they set up for a smash'n'grab.

Gotta beat KuPS next week and hope other results go the right way to progress automatically.

Also might help little old Lincoln Red Imps from Gibraltar who are clinging desperately onto 24th place after beating Sigma Olomouc tonight. They go to play Legia Warsaw next week and the only 3 teams that can catch them are KuPS, Breidablik (who face Strasbourg) and Zrinjski, the only team who could win as they face Rapid Vienna who are rock bottom with 0 points.

Plus if a win isn't enough to get top 8, having Lincoln as a potential opponent would be desirable.

What's the need to point this out? 😡 😉

Kudos to Shelbourne for their play. They didn't put in a low block like those w*nkers at Larnaca but played a normal game with flow, going forward and trying to score. It was just a lack of quality and also perhaps a crappy pitch that kept them off the score sheet. Should also mention really good play by us. A good try guys.
Their approach play up to the final third was decent but apart from the save at the end diddly squat in the final third, our quick interplay and intensity was too much for them and their defending for Pino's goal was non-existent. Respect to them but I'd say Fredrikstad were tactically and technically better than they were.

Cos for Lincoln to make it through regardless of their result in Warsaw, they need Rapid to pull their heads out the ground and get a result in Bosnia.

Anyway it seems that "can he do it on a cold Wednesday night in Stoke" needs to change to "can they do it on a balmy Thursday night in Gibraltar" cos judging by their unbeaten home record, not many teams actually can. Would love a Palace vs Lincoln play-off tie if Palace have to settle for a play-off place, but while the Selhurst game would be a cake walk the trip to Gibraltar would be a potential banana skin.

Couldn’t have gone much better. Close to a perfect night.

Got a comfortable win which boosts goal difference, managed to rest all the key players and some fringe players got a full 90 mins.

Both Uche and Esse had good games. I think we’re all desperate to see Esse play well as he’s generally looked quite useful and doesn’t seem to have had a fair run this season (as an outsider looking in).

Only the CB’s played 90 mins, but they barely broke sweat. We should be fresher than City on Sunday.

I’ve got faith that our second string team can do the business against KuPS next week

Yes sure I was talking about top 8, which is what we all want to achieve in order to reduce the number of games to be played. Playoffs are already guaranteed.
