Sentences too harsh!

Help me work out some thoughts in my head. Not quite trusting my judgement on this one so bear with me.

1. The trial of Axel Rudakubana was delayed but then happens to co-incidentally fall on the same day as Trumps inauguration.

2. At that trial, he pleads guilty to all three murders. Zero sign of any kind of 'mental health' defence which, lets be honest, if you are facing a straight forward no chance of parole life sentence, you might as well give it a go no matter what. In fact, I would argue that any legal team worth their salt would insist on. But instead nothing. Which is fine. But if this was the case, then why the delay in the first place? If you are going to not offer a defence then its done and dusted inside a day?

For me it stinks. To high heaven.

We are being played.

Or are we? Convince me otherwise.
The trial date was fixed last year Matov. It’s actually got to court quite quickly especially when a not guilty pleas was expected.
You would have to be quite a lawyer to get an acquittal in this case.

So apparently according to legacy media today it's Amazons fault the children were murdered. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Yeah like it’s Amazon who stabbed those poor kids along with others stabbers.
Next it will be Argos and M+S for selling kitchen knives to mum then mum for not locking them away.
Trying to swerve away from the real issue and 2 dead in Germany today 2 and 40 yr old by an afghan choir boy !

Do you not think that online retailers have a duty to ensure that anything that could easily be used as a lethal weapon is not sold to anyone suspected of having dangerous motives?

I do, but that’s not the problem. It’s how to ensure they have the information that enables them to do it and how they can be sure they aren’t dealing with a fake identity.

That demands greater identity checks, which will impact everyone. The moaning will follow.

That won't address the cause of so many stabbings. How many houses don't have kitchen knives? Take away all knives and they'll stab each other with screw drivers or chisels or broken bottles.

So all kitchen drawers should be fixed with locks? I have occasionally bought alcohol on line and have always had to sign for it ( bit upset they did t ask for age verification 😂). This would be a start but not policeable I’m afraid. There will a blackmarket crop up immediately. To try to blame Amazon is ridiculous and obviously an attempt at distraction. Has anyone ever blamed them previously? Why not? There has been a knife crime epidemic for years.

To your point. One of the reasons knife crime is so high in this country is that it is easier and cheaper than buying illegal guns.

Online sales should be tougher I have no problem with that but until the police restart stop and search it wont decline. If a thug thinks he might get stopped and searched he is less likely to carry a knife. The chances of that happening today especially in London are slim so they do.

Agreed. And mandatory sentencing should be more stringent for anyone found carrying a bladed weapon.

Gun owners need to keep them in locked cabinets. Are knives any less lethal? It might be impractical and would certainly be very difficult and inconvenient but as a matter of principle there is no argument against it.

I get upset in supermarkets when my wine purchases need to be checked, but at least it’s done. Why not online and why not for knives. I thought some categories of knives were already controlled so why not all? Blaming Amazon is daft. They would follow the law I am sure and would probably help to draft it.

I doubt whether too many will disagree but to find them you first need the police resources to do it. So increasing their numbers must be the priority. Sending young offenders to short term detention in dedicated centres, where they get reeducation and warned of the consequences of reoffending, makes more sense than putting them in jails and being exposed to, and recruited by, hardened criminals.

They would start off cynical but so was I when I was sent on a speed awareness course. I wasn’t afterwards.

If knifes are banned they will just find other weapons to use. 🤷🏻‍♂️ You can do some damage by hitting someone on the head with a rolling pin.
It's not the weapons that's the problem it's the people.

This is the issue. You can stab someone with a sharpened toothbrush; but it wouldn't occur to most people to do it.
