Sentences too harsh!

Enoch Burke.

A christian, employed as a teacher. He has some old fashioned beliefs regarding Transgenderism. And pays a very heavy price. 500 days in jail and now a hefty fine.

A harsh sentence ? Enoch never assaulted anybody, never robbed anybody, never even shouted nor threatened anybody. Never sold drugs, never committed a sex-crime against another person.
He merely chose to stand by his beliefs and his opinions - and he got a bit thick about it.

He isn’t though just a “Christian Teacher”!

He is a fundamentalist activist who has refused to pay fines legally imposed on him by the State, thus putting him in contempt of court. It’s for the contempt that he was jailed, not for holding his opinions.

We are all free to hold and to express our opinions, provided done legally. We are not free to ignore the law. That’s what democracy demands from us. No one is excluded.

He deserves no sympathy whatsoever.

Self-censored as I will be held in contempt myself.

The 2 Muslim Manchester attackers have both been charged for ABH and one for assault. It’s only taken about 6 months. Muhammad and Mohammed. It’s always Muhammad or Mohammed. So peaceful.

6 months just to get to trial. Is that real fast-tracking to send a message to people who assault police ? And make no mistake, those police officers came very close to taking an absolute beating. A real panic situation for them, and thankfully one of them was able to successfully deploy his taser, ..in the nick of time.
Or is 6 months to trial , hoping people might have forgotten about it, and they can put it well away from the headlines when it comes to verdicts and sentencing ?
We'll see what the justice system thinks, but this is a 2 tier media also.

His legal persecution is in Ireland, not under our laws. As Ireland is in the EU, it is not a democracy.

by woke judges. Judges who were appointed by woke politicians. 500 days in jail, locked up with murderers and rapists. Which is worse......getting a parking fine or refusing to refer to a he/she as a 'they' ?

That and the resilience and determination of the other male officer to keep going and subdue the suspects in the face of such aggression and violence. I think his actions helped deter some of the onlookers who, had the officers own showing been pathetic or underwhelming, would’ve taken an absolute beating with some of the onlookers joining in. The fact some of the officers were carrying firearms…that scenario doesn’t bear thinking about!

He isn’t being persecuted! He is being prosecuted!

Prosecuted for unpaid fines, lawfully imposed by the Irish State, not the EU.

Exactly the same would apply here and in most other countries. Fail to pay fines and you go to jail. In some places the result would be more extreme.

It has nothing to do with his original offence, which was a lot more than your description anyway. The only reason he was sent to jail was because he refused to pay the fine. Why did he do that? Perhaps to appear as a martyr and whip up sympathy from the impressionable?

Looks as though he might have succeeded and will be staying in jail for a while longer.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. No-one is entitled to disrupt the lives of others nor refuse to pay the fine imposed should they do so. He has chosen this result himself.

Another week so like clock work the BBC pushes it's latest Southport story. (See my last of last Wednesday)

You want to criticise stories like this?

Stories that praise those who are trying to make a better world by pointing out our failures and asking us to face them?

Are you really Andrew Tate in disguise?

According to the meeja this is the context of the King's Christmas speech.

"the content of his speech has been inspired by the way the UK pulled together after the Southport riots."

I have no problem with Charles he seems a fairly amiable person but I really don't get this if this context is correct.

Regardless of your political beliefs does anyone feel the country has come together after the riots? I think the reverse has happened, divisions have widen.

Many people are angered by the broken promises of politicians and the swift justice meted out to the rioters hence the Two Tier Starmer. Meanwhile the pro immigration lobby will no doubt be horrified by what they call the rise of the far right.

Since the riots satisfaction with the government is at record lows and doesn't seem to be improving.

So I'm sorry your Maj but I beg to differ sir.

Most people were disgusted by the rioting. I have not heard a word of support for it within my own circle. The only defence I have read anywhere is on these pages.

Which, given the political stance of the majority here, is unsurprising. But it also shows how unrepresentative those views really are.

So whilst division certainly still exists there has also been a solidification of the opposition to this kind of behaviour.

So if what you suggest is true the King is both right and wrong. I’ll wait to hear the actual words before actually deciding. Not that I ever pay much heed to what he thinks!

You bang on about people taking 'simplistic' views on why people voted for Trump, yet you completely ignore the underlying reasons behind the regrettable riots. Also amusing that you think that 'your circle' represents some sort of nationwide view.

Exactly.

You can be horrified by the riots and yet still angry with the government / politicians.

I get why Charles is saying what he did I simply disagree that people have come together, they haven't, if anything the riots have lit a blue touch paper.

Since the riots we now have Two Tier Starmer meme, Reform are continuing to make in roads, and the government has been going from one crisis to another.

It would be great if we could all hold hands and sing Kumbaya but it aint happened yet and is not likely to.

Wishing for something and making it happen are not the same thing.
