Palace potentially denied entry to Europa League?

Textor has been trying to sell his shares in Palace for nearly 2 years. Putting your shares in a Blind Trust means you have no control over them, not a great idea if you are trying to sell them.

On this point I don't blame Textor.
And in August, last year, he sought to buy out Parish, Blitzer and Harris. I do understand the dilemma Textor was in, but it also has had an impact on the club that is very negative.

Begs the question of what happens if their appeal is successful.

The implication for me is that they would take the European place instead of us.
Why else would they have to wait for the result of the appeal before deciding if Palace can participate.

Perhaps my reading of the situation is incorrect, but that's how it appears.
That was my initial, instinctive, reaction but actually it cannot be that way.

Lyon are either in, or out, depending on whether they win their appeal. Their place would go to another French team.

We are in, or out, depending on whether they decide we have broken the rules. Which if Lyon are in, it seems as though they will. Our place would go to another English team.

Hence the delay. Whether we can press for a decision based on the fact that there was never a conflict of multi club influence, with Textor’s unconditional sale only confirming that, is something only the lawyers can determine.

Johnson has to pass the owners test and be registered with the Premier League but he has apparently signed a legally binding contract to purchase so in the unlikely event he failed those tests he would need to sell on again. Once he pays the money, Textor is out. So no multi club ownership.

Time for the FA and our Government to turn on the afterburners. This isn’t just Palace. It’s English football being mistreated.

There has been a cornucopia of complexities in this whole process with a plethora of factors entering the equation.
The inference behind this delay is that if Lyon are successful in their appeal and are not relegated, they will play in the 'Europa League' and we will be excluded from competing. FA Cup Winners being denied a place in European competition.
For avoidance of doubt I am not privy to information apropos the complex discussions nor totally 'Au Fait' with the labyrinthine details raised by UEFA.

We have no indication of the length of that appeal process and in the meantime we cannot guarantee any prospective signing a chance to play in Europe. This could also have a knock-on effect of some sought after players currently on our books. The ramifications of not playing in the 'Europa League' could be serious. Hardly ideal preparation for the forthcoming season.

What an absolute disgrace this has been, you couldn't make it up,it is screwing up completely out transfer options, prep for next season and leaving the whole thing floundering, they don't give a toss about the supporters the people that matter, this organisation should cease to exist what is going on just is not right,we are being abused by this so called football organisation, they are truly a pile of sh.te,Lt is so bloody frustrating.

This is largely what I think too. I don't see how Lyon affects us. We qualified separately. There is nothing to do with Lyon being in or out for us. We either comply or not. Lyon's involvement has become irrelevant. We're not taking each other's place.
My guess is Forest causing trouble behind the scenes. With mega rich lawyers.

At the heart of this , I blame UEFA for their shoddy rules, which allowed situations like ours to develop. where was the due Diligence in constructing their Rules, and where was the legal QA'ing to ensure the rules were robust enough to withstand scrutiny. ?
The Rules are clearly not fit for purpose, and neither is UEFA.
UEFA: I think we should round them all up, put them in a big field, and bomb the bar stewards.

Only Palace can get caught up in a shambolic farce like this.

As I see it (and I have no info that isn't already out there)

  1. Uefa are scared stiff of making a decision on our fate until they absolutely have to.
  2. If Lyon fail in their appeal against relegation, Uefa can give a big sigh of relief and let us in as problem will be solved.
  3. if Lyon are successful then Uefa have to make a decision that will see them damned if they do (let us in) and damned if they don't as appeals to CAS are likely in either case and Uefa will then find themselves between a rock and a hard place trying to justify their decision.
As frustrating as this is I can see why UEFA have delayed. If they make a decision now then they do it ahead of Lyon's appeal, which has a major bearing. As you say if appeal is upheld then UEFA avoid the CAS appeals and potentially embarrassing scrutiny of their rules on court.

A delay may also assist if the Premier League expedite WJ's fit and proper person test meaning by the point of the decision is made the only way they are bending the rules, if they let us in, is the relaxation of the very arbitrary and unexplained 1 March deadline.

And UEFA probably want out friends on NSC to reach 200 pages before they make their decision...

Que sera sera, whatever will be will be, we're going to Wemberly, que sera sera.
And the mighty Palace conquered the biggest boys of World Football, Manchester City.
Our fantastic team smashed them, massively aided by our formidable fans.
We won the FA Cup, the biggest achievement ever for all Palace fans.
Now we wait for the French FA to decide Lyon's outcome which will determine any bonus from our victory at Wembley. But dont let the outcome cloud the euphoria of winning the cup.
It is EUFA's decision on a typical mixed up big money football decision.
Either way, they can't take our cup away.
12th again who gives a f**k we won the FA cup!

The players return for pre-season this week. Early August and it all starts again.
This situation must be causing all sorts of problems on the transfer front. OG made it very clear how important it is to get business done early even in a normal season. If we don’t lose anyone the squad is just about OK for league duty , add a European campaign in and no it’s not. Can’t blame the club for holding tight, it’s a mess.

No if Lyon are out we are in because there will be no club to have any conflict of ownership with

Nobody can be surprised UEFA cant make a decision, as they know their rules are open to different interpretation and can be easily challenged in CAS.

How are Palace supposed to plan for the season with additional players, when they dont know if they eventually get an answer. A disgrace.

Not sure how UEFA can make any provisional decision as suggested…it’s in the hands of the premier league and an internal matter which takes as long as it takes. The premier league won’t be interested in rushing any decision as has been shown by them previously.
Because it will be a cop out they can blame on someone else.

Very unprofessional of UEFA. Surely they have an obligation to expedite this as quickly as possible as it seriously impacts potential transfer activity - knowing you're playing in Europe must influence your strategy in a different way than if you're not.

Useless, inefficient w@nkers.
I suspect EUFA consider their current speed is expedition.

That's not a problem. Palace can simply ask for an extension based on those factors.

The issue is that this will take us up to the eleventh hour whereby we have missed the boat on sales and buys.

As the OP says, typical Palace.

The only option for our board is to assume the worst, get on and sign some of those players we’re interested in where the immediate attraction is PL football rather than Championship football next season, and keep Eze and Guehi until such time as UEFA decides if we are allowed to play. Easier said than done I know and not ideal when you don’t know if you have the bonus of Europa league money but better than doing nothing til UEFA finally reach a decision.
