Palace potentially denied entry to Europa League?

Cheer up.

How about next season we win the Carabao and the Europa Conference, the following season the Premier League and the Europa League, following season we win the Champions League?

Has any team scooped up as many trophies in such a short space of time? I doubt it. Dunno what everyone's moaning about, it's incredible.
It’s all got to be so predictable!

Well there's also the possibility that email filters put the UEFA notification in the Spam box.

There's a reason this email went missing, and sent to a general club email puts UEFA in quite a bad light

In my own Spam box I have many emails from Nigerian Princes and Local Government officials asking to put large sums of money in my bank account. Maybe I have a couple from UEFA, asking me to tell Textor to put his shares in a blind trust. 😁😁
I am a Nigerian prince so will you reply to me 😀

Any news if Woody has withdrawn his bid given the changed circumstances?
Could he, Would he?
Pretty confident it’s now gone through. Also good last line pun there.

I still think proportionality could save the day. And not sure what forest could appeal against then. Eg we’ve been found guilty but is there any real option for them to appeal the punishment dished out. We shall see.

I’m personally quite negative on our chances and think Parish is too otherwise he wouldn’t have been pleading so much last night. But I hope I’m wrong as this is just awful. Feel gutted by it

David Blitzer - 25% voting power at Palace - no decisive influence.

John Textor - 25% voting power at Palace - decisive influence.
Feels like they're just taking the p*ss out of us. I'd love it if CAS go in our favour and show these clowns up... But the way things are going it's more likely they'll end up inviting Marinakis along as a 'special guest' judge. The whole sham has put me in such a foul mood.

legally binding agreement to buy

That meant there was some minuscule thread of truth that could be presented to the French Financial team that the debt would be reduced but as it turned out a nice bottle of Le Piat D'Or would have been sufficient to swing the appeal in Lyon's favour

It sounded like Woody got a few tens of millions of pounds knocked off the 'going rate' as it was a distressed sale and he's probably not yet up to the speed in the vast chasm between the Europa League and the Conference. His 'mate' Boehly won the Conference so he's probably pretty happy to be having a crack at that.

Parish stated, “UEFA sent an email in January to info@cpfc.co.uk.” And Textor stated, “UEFA sent us an email in late February.” Parish also stated, “They kept sending it and sending it.”

This has to be a significant factor in the CFCB’s decision-making process to ban us from the Europa League. In other words, a case of extreme insularity and naively on Palace’s part, but that doesn’t justify an outright ban.

Questions & Analysis:
What address should UEFA be sending emails to Crystal Palace? Clearly, Parish doesn’t like the one they used.
Who is responsible for monitoring CPFC emails and forwarding them on?
Were they finally forwarded to the directors and chairman in late February?
If Textor had these emails forwarded to him in late February, why didn’t he seek clarification, as a matter of some urgency, from the ECA regarding his MCO status?
And the same onus also applies to Blitzer.
Were these emails exactly the same, or was the wording changed to heighten the need to acknowledge and respond? It defies all belief that UEFA were just resending the same email.
How long does it take to respond to critical emails like these? The same day, that’s how long it takes!

If Textor (and the same also applies to Blitzer) had acted responsibly and had sought appropriate advice, through their membership of the ECA, they would, at the very least, have documented ‘a registered interest’ in this matter that would have bought them enough time to put their shares into a blind trust by the 30th of April final deadline.

I do appreciate that UEFA have hardened their position, and are making it increasingly difficult for MCOs to operate; but MCOs also need to protect their business interests, their operational integrity, and their reputation, plus the interests of the club they have invested in, in what is now a very difficult and treacherous climate for them.

I also appreciate that foreseeing this scenario would have been highly unlikely, but you have to be risk 100% risk averse regarding financial regulations, which means keeping your ear very close to the ground by continuously networking and employing some of the best sport lawyers and specialists in the business. And, at the very least, you seek independent advice from the ECA, and don’t just assume that you know what rules apply to you. And bear in mind, the chairman of the ECA, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, also sits on UEFA’s executive committee.

All this is hugely expensive and very time consuming, but if you want to be both competent and successful in managing a sporting portfolio that runs into hundreds of millions, you also need an accountability threshold that can justify the expenditure of vast amounts of money and the potential impact it can have on innumerable supporters of the clubs you both own and manage.
Well written post.

They also have to provide reasons for their decisions, including the rationale behind any sanctions imposed. They can only impose a fine of up to €1,000,000.
I think a warning or reprimand for a first-time offence of administrative failure would be very fair and proportionate. And if the original verdict is upheld, they would have to provide detailed legal argument for their decision, which can be anything up to a hundred pages for complex cases like this. And the fact that they would also be taking into consideration the broader scope of future investment is also a pretty compelling argument, especially in light of the fact that UEFA are looking to ditch these restrictions next year for precisely that reason.

Thanks Mr Smith. I think you've added a lot to the debate. But your very first post is the one that I keep thinking back to.

Which stated that UEFA and the French League wanted Textor gone from French and European football. It was personal.

I think there is a truth in that and it has succeeded. And Palace are just collateral damage with everything else a smokescreen.

I agree with others that it does look like the UEFA statement is almost a suggestion that Palace should appeal. The only thing that is a slight worry is that Parish is only considering it. He's not done it.

Perhaps because he wants the sale to Johnson to go through so that can be presented as part of the appeal from the outset. Or perhaps because if the UEFA president stops the circus now he'll have more time to rescue the transfer window and waiting for the CAS decision prevents the chance of upgrading the squad.

As it stands with our current squad / transfer window we still have a good chance of winning the Conference. While we do need to invest substantially to do well in the Europa league and have an ok premier league season.

Chelsea won the Conference League last season, but, interestingly, their toughest tie came in the qualifying round. They only beat Servette (who were a decent side that finished second in their 2024/5 league) 3-2 over two legs

The first leg was the Swiss side's ninth game of the season, compared with being Chelsea's second, so they were up to speed.

We could be out of Europe before the end of August!

Yep

The draw will take place on Monday 4 August with the tie to take place over two legs.

The first leg will be played on Thursday 21 August, with the second taking place the following week on Thursday 28 August.

The seeding of the playoff round gives me a good indication of the sort of opposition we can expect in the playoff round. English clubs can expect to be drawn against one of the 14 best clubs who join the competition in the 2nd qualifying round. These will come from Portugal, Holland, Sweden, Denmark, Czechia, Switzerland, Austria, Turkey, Greece, and Scotland.

Looking at these clubs’ ELOs, most are of Championship standard, with AEK Athens the trickiest tie - they are about the standard of Premier League strugglers, and Dundee United the least troublesome.

I’d say we know from bitter experience that these games can be difficult, even though we should be favourites.

The group games will have a lot of CL clubs from the small nations like the obscure East European teams, who are of a lower standard.

Unfortunately we've been done by off field rules, again, to rightfully hold our place in Europe. Heysel aftermath first and this UEFA debacle. Luckily this time we are not totally out of the pot. The current UEFA rules in relation to our predicament lack flexibility in relation to a club like us, who were in multi ownership. In March we were in the 4th round of the Cup and all eyes on Doncaster not Citeh. So either a move of the date further back or no multi ownership. Due to the timeframes here we have no chance of UEFA reversing this decision as it took an eternity for them to unravel this situation previously. However when all is said and done, go to the BBC FA Cup tab and watch around 6 minutes of pure delight in our club's history. South London n proud. COYP !!
