This is all about Lyon. No matter how you paint it, they have some serious influence within UEFA and there is definitely something that has gone on in the background to firstly get them out of relegation and into the Europa League and secondly force Textor out of their club. I reckon they consider Palace to be a bit of an annoying irrelevance in all of this and when you look at what has happened it kind of feels that this is exactly how we have been treated.

I also think there is a strong link between Marinakis and UEFA and Lyon and it would not surprise me at all to learn that he is bankrolling some of Lyon’s debt. The reward, Forest get in by default. The whole thing stinks of corruption and I genuinely think they don’t give a flying about Palace. The Conference is just a sop to try and placate.

Just my opinion but we are fighting against European football’s money men and I’m not sure we have the clout to deal with it. I hope we don’t give up trying however.

It's tempting to come up with conspiracy theories when UEFA and FIFA are involved in anything.

One of the most telling things I've read in the last couple of days is that reported change to UEFA's rules re MCO. What's their motive for doing that unless it's an admittance that those rules are not, as we have said, fit for purpose ?

I'm hoping that CAS take that into consideration and if they do, I think it could tip the balance in Palace's favour.

I've been coping with this realization of our worst fears by deliberately not thinking about it.

As every time I've approached the topic in my mind I look for an imaginary cat to kick and stop myself from punching a wall.....Not really appropriate for your mid fifties.

Football is a game and we should try to enjoy it as we see that often people take it too seriously where it becomes a bit too much of their identity to be healthy.

However, when it comes to what has been done to our club here....after all we did to win the FA Cup coming from 2010 and near extinction I think anger is justified.

f*** UEFA.....f*** them to hell.....Our club earned that spot.

I'm a huge football fan, as well as of Palace but I still didn't watch any Conference football last season including the final.
If we are in this tournament I would have the League and the two domestic cups ahead of it in terms of priorities.
The Europa Cup (old Cup Winners Cup) is an entirely different kettle of fish with long history and traditions.

There's glory and glamour attached to this which is totally absent from the Conference.

I accept I may be in a minority in this view and many seem desperate to see us in Europe at any cost, even if the whole episode has been tainted as it has been .

As for the general assumption that we'd easily win it and have it as another route to Europe, that's a huge assumption.
Note our squad on occasions last season had 2 goalkeepers, 2 veterans and 3 untried youngsters.
European competition places huge demands on resources and can often affect League form for clubs our size.

In essence, I could see the risk/reward being worth it for the Europa, but not for the Conference.

Well as Lyon’s honorary President, the bloke who sold them to Textor, is on the board of the FFF, it is beyond doubt you are correct. As for Maranakis, he is obviously involved in sorts of “mischief “ and beggars belief the PL were happy to accept him. Hope he tries t sue Levy and gets his backside handed to him in a very considerable sized plate
