New Manager Planning

Sosa isn't a starter for me nor Uche. They both desperation.
There should be a category between starter and bench player. Someone who will start a fair amount but not most games, and will also come on in others. A rotation player.

That’s where I would put both of ‘em as, but not necessarily where they are used as (especially not Uche, currently).

I think this is precisely the motivation. If OG was making simplistic media soundbites I'd be much more worried.

From OG's perspective, he will feel he holds most of the cards: either the board back him or he leaves with his head held high and his stock even higher. He would be on most shortlists for most top tier jobs going either in the second half of this season or next.

From the club's perspective, maybe they also feel they hold most of the cards: the reputational and commercial impact from the club's recent on pitch success, the cash in hand by "saving not investing" (OG's comment) and the current squad all make the Palace job the best it has ever been for an elite coach.

Taking the above into account I think OG will leave at the end of the season. But that someone pretty decent will take up the reins.
Possibly Frank. His Spurs odyssey not going great. Much better in a club our size.

I am not sure I like OGs use of the media to get his way though. Something of the tail wagging the dog.

If he is going then maybe it's best he goes now and we find someone to come in before the January window so they can sign their own players.

Otherwise we risk either signing players on long deals that the new manager does not like or worse still we sign no one and our current paper thing squad risks overwork and long term injury.

He cannot hold the club over a barrel, no contract, no players, if Rosenior is available now, i would bring him in if he wants to come.

Plenty are saying that his comments are an indication that he'll leave. I suppose another interpretation is that he could be willing to stay but is trying to pressure the board to show some ambition.

I really really hope they work it out and he stays but, if he goes, we need a manager with a similar style who will suit the squad. We can't go radically different and change everything about how we play again.

I would be looking closely at Ole Werner (38), manager of RB Leipzig.
He was signed for this season by Klopp after Glasner had allegedly been approached.
Currently 2nd in the Bundesliga.
Problem, would he want Premier.? Leipzig currently 2nd which would mean Champions League.
Positive, if Klopp/Red Bull still like the look of Glasner, could we consider a swap.
Werner contract expires summer 2027.
Flexible on his playing format.

As the Pino song states - we're all going to Leipzig, one way or another!

Reading through this and the Mateta thread there is quite an element of Chaos theory around clubs at our level (slightly different for those with big squads who can spend half a billion in the window but probably still there) in that there are so many factors that have to come together for us to be successful that one injury or transfer can make a huge difference.
Bosman has complicated future planning since young players know they might only have to commit for two years before leaving for a club who wouldn't give them a chance earlier.

On HOL I have gallivanted down the alley of Financial Regulations and the fact that we do not generate the revenue of some of the other clubs in the PL.
I do not profess to knowing the detailed 'Financials' at our club. According to Simon Jordan we have the 'Bandwidth' and 'Headroom' to invest more than we have done. Due to my lack of knowledge of these details, I cannot vouch for the veracity of his assertions.

We are in the top 25 in the world for incoming revenue.

The whole we don't have money is nonsense we do it's all about filling up the boards pockets and playing it safe.

The idea that we should rush to get rid of a manager of Glasner's pedigree for Liam bloody Rosenior is frankly ridiculous.

If there are any conditions under which Glasner will extend, the club should be pouring all resources into achieving that.

It does seem to going the same way as what happened in frankfurt with Glasner.

Maybe other big teams will be looking at the trend and if they can work with him?

I think 1 year extension works for us all I guess.

On his teams display last week. Not a good thing there must / is better I am sure. Long way to go and see if he stays and then who is available.

Where is new Director,Woody Johnson??
Thought he had significant financial clout to invest in our project.

So a likely scenario is we lose key players and the best manager we have had IMO over five decades,
we will possibly be back to the avoid relegation and end up in mid table wilderness again.

Such is Palace, I wonder how much we have really pi55ed away on the " new stand " project and how much costs have really gone up

Realistically there will be a lot of teams in the same position. Even the big money boys could be included if they got properly punished for FFP breaches.

It's quite clear Parish and Glasner need to have a serious heart to heart. I did think that the question on Sunday seemed a bit staged, just so Glasner could make sure his grievances would be aired - but maybe that's my cynical mind.

I am sure it is frustrating for the manager to feel like he wasn't backed in the transfer window. One thing that is worth remembering is that we found ourselves having to assemble a stronger squad because of our European qualification. This was a competition that we didn't qualify for until mid May. It's very challenging to identify the players required at such short notice. Even harder to convince them to sign for us when so many other EPL teams are sitting there ready to gazump us. We then had the on/off saga with Eze, and then Guehi so over committing without knowing what money was available would be considered a risk. We end up chasing our tails on the last day and signing a few that haven't really shown that they are good enough.

The problem OG has now created for himself is he wants money to spend but isn't showing any signs of committing himself to the club. Are the board really going to spend money on players that the manager just continues to ignore ?

Esse is clearly not showing enough intensity in training, or the right attitude. For him not to get on the pitch on Thursday or Sunday shows a complete lack of confidence in him. Injuries are going to soon mount up as the players start to tire and muscles strain and pull.

We just need the manager and the board to be on the same page with budgets. There's no happy ending when a manager wants to spend and the board exercise caution.

I agree. At one stage it appeared staged to me (already mentioned by someone else). "Do you think you could have won in the first half and do you feel let down the squad wasn't invested in more over the summer?"

OG: "You asked me two questions. Break it down and I will answer each individually."

Then to the second question, a simple: "yes".

That said, he seems to pride himself on being honest with the press. He has been a lot more open and engaged than many other managers with us and at other clubs. I really like that about him generally although that's a much more likeable trait when things are aligned on the pitch and at board level.
