There is much in this post that I agree with. You are clearly not a racist and whilst most who sympathise with Reform aren’t either I suspect most racists support Reform.

I want everyone living in the UK to share our values too. If they choose to live here then that’s part of the contract. I would go further and insist on it, making it part of the visa process and extending that for much longer than at present. My hobbyhorse is with how we educate both new arrivals and their children. I want all religion and religious control or influence removed from both schools and public life. I want every child taught tolerance and respect and to learn how to challenge any intolerance or lack of respect they might encounter in their private life.

Does that make me far right? Not in my book because I am perfectly prepared to tolerate and respect others who return the sentiments. It’s behaviour that concerns me, not background or any other arbitrary characteristics.

No, the attitude of the far right goes well beyond my own wish to create harmony with determined requirements. The wish to “repatriate” is often based on unrealistic fear and a belief in the “great replacement “ theory. Apart from being completely impractical and unrealistic it’s showing the lack of respect and intolerance that lies at the heart of the problem.

So if Reform started to throw out all those who promote racist ideas, started to promote the need for reeducation and the removal of religion from public life, alongside a reversal of the objection to ensure effective moderation of social media and control of disinformation and misinformation, they might even start to make sense to me.

Surely cryrst people of colour can't be racist, and you must be by suggesting anything other.

Business owners would prefer there to be no regulations which restricted their returns. The most extreme would no doubt welcome the return of slavery.

So we regulate to protect ourselves. So long as it applies to all then there is a level playing field.

The real question is where the line is drawn between protection and interference. Between benefit and jeopardy, for us. All of us. That’s not easy and opinions will differ.

It matters to employees who, often despite more experience, see others promoted/rewarded over their head on grounds other than competence. If there is a level playing field DEI isn't needed.

What it mustn’t do is overpower meritocracy.

Everyone seems to have opinions but yours are facts. Yours is an opinion and because you haven’t been on the end of racism it’s a minor thing.
