Marc Guehi

A couple of points here.

Firstly he is our player and until Newcastle pony up, it doesn't change a thing.

Secondly I see a lot of fans with this "small club mentality" that once a player is linked then it's automatic that they leave. 100% incorrect.

Since promotion in 2013 how many players with a high ceiling have we sold? 2. In 11 years:

Aaron Wan Bissaka
Micheal Olise.

How many players have we sold who were key players since promotion? 1.

Yannick Bolasie. We got the best of this deal too. Did little at Everton.

We lost Zaha on a free but his time was passing. We have better players now.

We don't lose players regularly. We need to change the mindset. We don't always sell, we rarely sell.

We have a chairman who puts the club first. So unlike in the past we aren't a soft touch.

If Newcastle want him, they need to pay £70m minimum. Howe can whine about a Newcastle tax but this tells me that they don't have the ability to pay what we want.

So he won't leave. Marc isn't agitating for a move and he knows the team is in a good place. We might finish above Newcastle if we keep the team together so as Newcastle aren't in Europe then why leave?

If a club in European competition comes in I'd be worried but as Newcastle are the only team to make a bid, I'm confident he stays

I think we are embarrassing ourselves bidding over £45 million for Guehi ( spelling ). He had a few good games against duffer teams in the Euros and now we are meant to believe Parish opinion he's a " Superstar ", when that's clearly proposterous.

This isn't a dig at Palace BTW. It's the crazy state of the PL where there is absolute garbage spoken about a player's worth. If we are offering the purported £65 m + for him then shame on us. The world's gone absolute potty. Hope he stays with you guys..

.

I understand the basic platform from which you are thinking here, the general price of players these days is ludicrous and if you’ve been following football for long enough, sheer insanity.

That’s not the context in which to consider this however.

First of all, the player: Guehi is 24 and despite coming back from injury he started for an England side which made a major international final. He captained Palace in his early 20s and has been an outstanding performer in (like it or not) what is a well established PL team now. He cost us £20 odd million to buy in the first instance and after having only a handful of games under his belt. He plays CB with a Beckenbauer-esque intelligence and is like a CM on the ball. He may lack world class physicality but is hardly a cropper in that context.

Secondly, the context: Without further commentary, you are now a club with a ludicrous amount of money which comes from a top tier dubious ownership and we are under no pressure to sell. The player is under contract, one of our star men, and we’re not desperate for the money. Also, whilst more promising than Palace, Newcastle are very far from an ‘offer you can’t refuse’. Maguire went for more a number of years ago too, so the price is determined by the market, not us personally and independently.

So to summarise, it may be a decent transfer for all parties, provided Guehi would actually want to go. If so, the price we are holding out for seems reasonable. You either match it or don’t.

Personally, I think Marc should be looking for more than Newcastle and I say that without any personal offence intended to Newcastle or your fans. You will need to meet the price however. He’s better than what you have and would be worth it, IMHO. You either pay his price, or you don’t. Simples 🤓

My personal view on this is that MG really doesn’t fancy Newcastle. Perhaps, like me, he just thinks they are a scum bag club, with a bunch of murdering owners and over entitled fans. More likely he just thinks he can do better, and I’m sure he can. If one of the really top sides come in for him he will be gone in a flash (and I wouldn’t blame him). Newcastle, however, are not a really top side no matter what some of their fans might believe.

I wouldn't fancy Newcastle either. What a dump! I saw a documentary about the place the other day. Micheal Caine presented it and then he got killed at the end.
Good point. And maybe he doesn't want to wait until the boat comes in before having a fishy on a little dishy.

I have heard the view expressed that the hierarchy should assert in NO uncertain terms that Guehi is NOT for sale so "Go forth and multiply" adding that entertaining offers sends out a signal that our "Prized assets" are all available at an acceptable price.Olise has been sold, who else will depart, Eze, Mateta, Wharton etc etc ?

The irate gentleman who had clearly been lubricating his larynx asserted that at a time when the club should be building on the momentum generated last season it is willing to "Churn", with a revolving door policy where major assets depart and replaced by those untried in the Premier League. Beetroot-gilled and in a lather he gruffly commented that "Europe and a top 8 finish is for the birds".

For me it is down to Glasner, if he wants him to stay, he stays, if he fancy's Maxence Lacroix better then sell him, if he wants to go, if not he stays, i think if Liverpool bid, Guehi may feel differently about moving, reading the write ups about Lacroix in France and Germany he sounds an outstanding player, maybe let Andersen go, i hope we sign Lacroix what ever happens.

Nope we won't pay for mediocrity. Going rate for a decent CB. Absolute joke 🤣. By the way, you don't REALLY believe him when he says he wants to stay. Money talks, nice human being or not, motivation is money. Nice human being that.
Still chewing those sour grapes? Parish has rejected your bids, Guehi hasn’t put pressure on Parish and Palace to go to Newcastle, because he simply doesn’t want to, and you’re now unable to spend beyond your means because the clubs above you and the premier league have implemented PSR and pulled up the drawbridge.

You must be absolutely fvcking gutted that you’ve finally got what you wanted - a bottomless pit of money to spend, only you can’t spend it and go beyond your natural ceiling and full potential, like everyone else.

I was listening to White and Jordan recently and I think it was Danny Murphy that mentioned why someone like Liverpool have not come in for him. In regards to Newcastle, they are a good club but they are not an established top 5 side yet. They finished 7th last year. It would not really be a step up for Marc as Palace could come in the top 8 if they have a great season.
Why did Danny Murphy say someone like Liverpool haven’t come in for him?

They were talking about how much they rate him and Murphy was saying how Liverpool need another CB alongside Van Djik. And Simon was saying if Liverpool came in for him there is no way he is going to Newcastle over Liverpool.

And as mentioned on another thread Joe Gomez is reportedly looking to leave. Newcastle were linked with him last month.

Keep him PLEASE. Lots of us in the Gallowgate think he's a good player but he's over rated by Parish, " superstar " Mr Parish, really 😊
I do not like some of the rude comments directed your way. Fans of all teams (save one or two) should be welcomed and treated respectfully.

Also, I lived in Newcastle in the 80s and it is a lot less of a sh1t hole than Croydon. Many happy times in the Leazes End following what was then my second team. However you need to understand that your fans are not universally liked and I will apply the playground analogy.

The really boring obsessive kid (replica kits on holiday for God's sake).

The kid who boasts about his and his dad's achievements with no actual achievements to back it up.

The kid who lives in a privately owned 2 up 2 down terrace house who talks down to the kid who lives 2 streets away in a social housing 2 up 2 down terrace (we are not Blythe Spartans. Without European football you would be a sideways move for Guehi. The expectation that we will simply roll over is insulting).

The kid who constantly cries that he is being picked on (a "Geordie Premium"!)

I will make the recent history simple.

CPFC We want £70m. Take it or leave it.
NUFC How about £55m?
(Pause. To your credit you continued in the discussion. Levy did not but instead used the media to effectively sell Eze to Spurs to unsettle him)
CPFC No. £70m
NUFC How about £60m?
CPFC No. Still £70m.
NUFC How about £60m with extras?
CPFC Are you deaf? No.
NUFC OK last offer. £65m
CPFC Just f**k off now.

You have no leverage and you may have competition.

The market sets the price not your subjective valuation.

If you stop with the chiselling, a price is agreed and the player is willing he goes with a sigh and all our blessings. Just stop trying to whine the price down.

That works both ways. Coming in as a guest, stamping your feet and whining that you’re not getting your own way because you’re a bigger club is only going to get you short shrift. We’ve seen it happen several times before. The best example was the Bolton kid. Where are they now?

I hope I made that very point.

We have also had some very good posters from e.g. Watford and Leeds who can come again

Mate f*** off . Come on Southampton.
You read my post yesterday about Palace being 6th or 7th in the pecking order in London even behind Brentford was right. Love your vitriol about Newcastle though, sniggers. ( Whistles smugly leaving the room ) 😆. Oh dear

I think the majority of Newcastle fans have been unreasonable. We have a value for Guehi, which hasn't been met...it would be like us offering 45 for your diving specialist Anthony Gordon and getting upset when you reject the bid. No disrespect to Newcastle but he isn't exactly kicking and screaming at the prospect of staying, although you have rich owners, you aren't a great club - Middlesborough have had more success in recent years. You should understand that during the Euros MG had only just returned from a serious injury & probably wasn't at his best, on his day he is unbelievable. Captioned the club at 22, full English international and you think he's valued under 45 MIL? Wow!
All I've done is gave an opinion on the value of one of your players. Nothing personal. You lot are very touchy, isn't it good to have some challenging views. Some dissent is good for the soul, alleviates boredom. Very surprised at vitriol. Anyway I think you'll finish well this year, a safe 15th or 16th, and that's good for a Club of your size.

Thank god there is an ignor option now for wankers like you .

Teenage years are terrible, spots, greasy hair, school and no girl friend, sniggers.Still you can comfort yourself in being one of the crew in holmesdale, bet you've threw stones at the away teams bus and stood arms wide screaming " cam on then " at the visiting away fans, 😄 in that cringe worthy " Landan " accent. Never mind, first pint soon kidda, haha. Sorry, you deserved that. Take care

Fancy putting £100 on us finishing 15th or lower? To a charity & winner puts tbe receipt on here?

As for your response you've literally ignored all of my points! Anyway good luck for the season, hopefully you'll either pay the money or leave MG alone and I look forward to another 3 points at Selhurst this season!

Although personally I did prefer it when you had Ashley incharge, you were competitive, the fans were great and the banter was spot on! Now you just act like a northen version of Citeh....the guy in the tea towl on his head when the Saudis came in is a perfect example!
