Marc Guehi

Don't Chelsea have a 20 percent sell on fee?

In that case, as long as they don't overly take the p1ss, they have always been the preferred buyer.
If Chelsea are interested they have a jump start on any other bidders.

Say Moan United offer £80m and we agree.

Chelsea can match this without paying anything like that.

£80m - 20% = 64. Chelsea then say you want Chalobah? £20m

So they pay £44m.

I think they have matching rights deal and that is all. But more importantly they own Chalobah.
If they want Guehi, who I am sure would be happy to return to his academy club, then a deal including Chalobah sounds obvious.
The swap plus £55m to us and I reckon they will be there or thereabouts.
Win win deals are always the best.

Accepting the inevitability of his leaving £26 m more than we paid plus Challobah is a pretty good return.
But it depends on whether he really wants to go back to Chelsea - as others have said he's reported to prefer Liverpool and with van Dijk getting older he would be certainly be an option for them, maybe with Doak instead as the balance.

If I were him I’d want to go to Liverpool. Stable, well run club, likely to be Champions. Champions League football and slotting into a well organised team. Chelsea might well be looking at yet another change of manager, no certainty on selection and could miss out on Champions League. Wages would come into it but Liverpool can surely match whatever Chelsea put on the table.

This all depends on whether Guehi actually WANTS to go back there.
Yes, that's true. He does seem to keep very close counsel on such issues so it's difficult to tell.

Stirling, you're right about the sell on fee, but as Sami Mokbel wrote in the Mail this morning, 'It is unclear how that clause would be activated if Chelsea are the buying club'.

I don't remember any mention of percentage sell on fees, so I think - like others - they have the right to buy first, if we are selling but they will have to match whatever we are offered by others.
If his long term intention is to leave then let him go - preferably to Chelsea, buy Chalobah and with him, Lacroix and Riad, we will be fine.
I hate Chelsea

My understanding is that Chelsea were very surprised we were prepared to offer what we did for Guehi and ONLY included the right to match the final bid if we were prepared to sell him and another club/other clubs came in for him.

As far as I recall, there was no mention of Chelsea including any sell-on percentage of our profit nor of them having first refusal if we wanted to sell Guehi.

On that basis if Chelsea really want Guehi then how interested will Newcastle and Liverpool be knowing that Chelsea only need to match their top offer to get their man?

Assuming only Chelsea come in for him it will be a question of:
1. Will their bid be big enough to tempt the board?
2. Will Chelsea be willing to let Chalobah be part of the deal should Palace want to buy him (and Chalobah be willing to come here)?

IMO we will do well to get £40m plus Chalobah for Guehi in this window.

30m....35 if we're lucky.

But let's hope you're right.

If you had the choice of keeping Lacroix or Guehi, you would choose Lacroix, he is a far superior player than Guehi, surely nobody disagrees with that, a great find for Glasner/Freedman
You do love a bold statement haha. 100% right, half of the time. Cant say I agree with you here but I do rate both highly.

No it's a % off the sale go look it up that is typical of what the likes of Chelsea do.

He may well have first option as well clause.
Theres no way Palace would have ever agreed to a % of the sale when they bought him. A % of the PROFIT from any sale (after we have recouped our £18m) is more likely and very different to 25% of £70m!

Palace do it all the time.

Most of the big clubs insist on it.

The best deal we can hope for is say Chelsea want him we agree to say 50m fees are removed so we do get 50m and they give us Chalobah as well (I dont expect this to be near what we will get)

Is relegation worth £35m they are offering. Losing Anderson and MG6 in the same season, do me a favour.

Even £70m is too low. It could really destabilise when we have improved but Ipswich are picking up points, we could get pulled back down. Selling one of your best players in Jan is insane, unless the fee is monumental and you can guarantee bringing in quality.

Sell in the summer if he won't sign a new deal. Tell Chelsea to FO

Agree, Chelsea have a short term CB issue so i can only see them buying MG if the price is right.
From our perspective the £70m 2024 valuation must be lower now as his contract is running down.

If he goes in the summer with 12 months left of his contract i think we will be lucky to get £40m.

If we do want Chalobah (and i'm still not convinced by his defending) then i think anything above £30m plus Trevor (who is c£20m tops IMHO) would not be bad business on paper.

I suspect Palace would prefer to leave things until the summer

I think that too.

The player isn't agitating for a move.

Now we could undoubtably get a higher price for him now than in the summer. However, relegation wise we are not out of the woods ( yet ) and if you factor in the financial impact of what would happen were we to go down, then it makes financial sense to keep him for the rest of this season.

When he goes, I hope it's to Liverpool and not Chelsea.
