Marc Guehi

I had a feeling he was holding out for a Chelsea return. Can't see him going in January. But will definitely go in summer.

That would be 2 of our starting CBs gone in the summer. We would want to have a plan in place to get replacements and proper pre season with them but we all know how this goes... replacement on 31st of August...another slow start etc... etc ...

Sell Guehi and let Chalobah go until the end of the season, Richards, Lacroix and Riad, are more than capable, Lerma, Clyne and Ward as back up, LWB, RWB (cover) and left footed attacking player is more important, looking at the table 8th is well available.
Absolutely not. We have no idea if Riad is good enough as he has hardly played. Richards has not looked good this season. The main positive from what is still a poor season for us at this stage is our stable and relatively good performing back three. Breaking that up if we don’t have to could well see us slipping back into relegation trouble.

I would sell him for £75m. Good business should never be under-estimated and opportunities can suddenly pass.
That only works if we can adequately replace him. He will be sold in the summer but selling our best centre half when we are five points above the relegation places would be silly. Going down would cost a lot more than £75m

Selling Guehi now could see Glasner walking out,his frustration of losing Olise he probably accepted. But MG may make him think about his control over team affairs.

Glasner is experienced enough to appreciate football economics.

Guehi is worth more now than he will be in the summer . And if Chelsea are so desperate then they can pay accordingly. And a deal for Chalobah could be part of that.

I believe the player prefers a move to Liverpool in any case.

Totally agree.

Riad is an unknown quantity. I'm interested to see what he has to offer.

Richards has a lot of good qualities but looks uncomfortable in possession and doesn't seem to have the range of passing that is demanded when playing in a back three. I think he's been a bit unlucky with injuries and hasn't had a run of games as a starter. When he was playing regularly at the end of last season, admittedly at a time when the whole team were playing well, he looked good. Maybe his time will come again.

As for Clyne and Wardy, they've had their time and we shouldn't be going into next season relying on them for cover.

I would sell him for £75m this month if Chelsea are serious. Good business should never be under-estimated and opportunities can suddenly pass. No doubt they would try to use Chalobah as a counter-weight sale which would be worth considering if he’s around the £25m mark.
To me the whole Chelsea thing is a bit meh -

Whilst it may be true that at some point in time Marc Guehi was keen on a Chelsea return ( or indeed he may well have had some misgivings about leaving in the first place after the amount of time he had been at the club) but surely the Connor Gallagher experience with Chelsea would have taught him something.

Chalabah - was almost persona non grata at Chelsea in the weeks before the season started, training away from the main group as one of 4 or 5 players who were deemed to not be in their plans, he joined us in a condition of fitness that needed a lot of work to bring him up to speed -

Sounds to me that Chelsea are a club that if your wanted by the current manager they promise you anything, but if your not "flavour of the month" then they arent interested & lets face it managers at Chelsea come & go on a regular basis.

Totally agree x 2

Richards feels like he'd be better as the central of the back 3, but Lacroix has that place locked down.

I suspect that outside CB position, and particularly on the right might be the harder of the positions. Constantly getting pulled out to cover for RB. Probs why Clyne looked ok there. Bit of a hybrid role

Riad is a top player, as good, if not better than Lacroix, left footed, once he starts, like Lacroix he will be a fixture in the back three.

Maybe but we don’t know at this stage that he is suited for us and the EPL. He simply hasn’t played enough for us to call it.

I don't think a return to Chelsea would be a good decision for either Guehi or Chalobah, but definitely not the latter. Despite being one of their best players towards the end of last season the new manager didn't even give him a look in. If Guehi isn't going to sign a new deal and Chelsea offer £75 million then that does seem too good to turn down. Richards has always looked better on the left of a back three, Riad is returning and the money would strengthen several areas, even if it slightly weakened our centre-back pool. One thing that could happen is that if Chelsea do bid it might flush out other offers as for my money Guehi is the best English centre-back right now.

Hopefully and then we can make a deal to sell in the summer with a fee agreed now. I just can’t help feel it would be the most Palace thing ever to enter a window looking to reinforce key positions and end it with the only business being selling our best centre half

Chelsea threatening to recall TC smack of a negotiating position to buy Guehi.

If he's going I hope we have a bidding war with the bin dippers and Moan United.

Chelsea can point out that if we sell him to them there is no sell on clause so the Magpie fan might be right that he goes for less than £65m.

If you had the choice of keeping Lacroix or Guehi, you would choose Lacroix, he is a far superior player than Guehi, surely nobody disagrees with that, a great find for Glasner/Freedman
This is a very hot take. Lacroix has started really well but Guehi is a much better passer and better positionally. Lacroix has remarkable recovery skills but needs to use them sometimes because he’s been caught out.

However, the really important point is that Guehi and Lacroix form a very good, complementary partnership at the back. Lacroix’s athleticism and pace work well with Guehi’s positional sense and reading of the game. Right now we need to keep that partnership going. As losing Anderson at the start of the season showed it isn’t as simple as just chucking in a new centre half and it clicking.

Agreed and thank you for saving me having to write a direct response

Played an hour y/day for the U21's v Fulham(0-1), took Holdings normal spot who wasn't even in the squad(could be some truth about Lampard/Coventry). A start or bench for Sunday looks likely.
Riad was on the bench for the Chelsea game so I would expect him to be again on Sunday.

I don’t think he’s played enough football to start a game yet at senior level but if we are in a good position later in the match on Sunday then he could get some minutes

As Eddie Howe said yesterday, along the lines of "clubs these days are business led rather than football led". Unfortunately he's right, so if Chelsea offer the right money for Guehi we'll find it hard to turn down.

A deal that includes our taking Chalobah on a permanent basis would seem to make sense if Chelsea are serious about Guehi.

Don't Chelsea have a 20 percent sell on fee?

In that case, as long as they don't overly take the p1ss, they have always been the preferred buyer.
