Joachim Andersen sale agreed?

While I would like us to keep our players, selling JA makes sense now.

SP has said that it will be very unlikely that both JA and MG leave.
JA has not said he wanted a move when asked in a TV interview, however he did not answer the question about returning to Fulham, just stating "he is a Palace player with 3 years on his contract".

What I see happening is MG moving to RCB. Riad coming in at LCB and Richards in the centre.
Then the reserves are going to be Ward, Holding then we get a new LCB as cover (Jake Clarke-Salter would be my choice for this position and we have been linked to him previously).

IF then MG was allowed to leave (unlikely but...) then maybe we could get Maxsence Lacroix. I doubt very much we would go in for Chalobah, given Chelsea would over value him at £30m or some such stupid figure.

Also letting a player leave who is not homegrown is not a huge loss. We can then replace him with anyone. If MG left, we would be looking to keep our homegrown quota up. If we replaced Andersen with a home grown player in the squad, then this makes the most logical sense. Having MG play on the right also makes sense as this is his strongest side and we dont spend £14m on a reserve not to play him.

Good post.

Not saying it's all 100% correct, but can see a lot of sense in the thiking.

Andersen as good a footballer as he is is an average defender and defending is his prime requirement . So we get a better defender and a worse footballer with a replacement . Not a problem as long as they can pass the ball ten yards to Wharton . Ollies team is taking shape .

Reading the above posts there seem to be roughly 3 camps
- it makes financial sense for him to leave
- he’s slow and error prone and can be improved upon
- he would be a real loss from a footballing and leadership perspective.

Personally I’m more in the third camp and as a long term fan see the success and optimism at the end of last season as yet another false dawn.
However much it’s dressed up the team will be weaker without Olise and Anderson.

I acknowledge that there may be very good reasons for why we are operating in this manner and my comments are limited to a footballing perspective.

Very well put and agree.

Whilst he's here I'd call him a 'very good ball playing CB'.

When he leaves, I'll call him a 'failed midfielder'.

Why do think he is going then, to be nearer the River.
I said money had to be the key. Both in his pocket and the clubs. Perhaps as an alternative to selling Guehi.

I don't think that it can be argued that he has become a bad player. Although, I'm sure you would try and argue anything.

My hopes that I had that we may push on from last season and challenge for Europe are now firmly gone.

I hoped we may be picking up a couple of players to be bolstering the squad in the last week of the window, now it seems we could be selling both our best two centre backs. £30 million will not seem like a lot of money if we are battling at the wrong end of the table.
That's exactly where I am although the final verdict must be left until the end of the window. What we we do know is JA was a premier league level CB. Is Riad up to it over 38 games ? Is Lacroix that good, people keep saying he is but he's untested. And doing it at this time is bonkers IMO. I only hope OG is on board with the decision.

Not happy that he is going to a rival. Fulham may will finish above us this season they are buying a lot of players.
I no its a ridiculous idea, but why don't we wait until the deadline has passed to access the squad

I suspect, as others have alluded to, that its to do with both the economics and the wishes of both players; Olise clearly wanted to have his release clause triggered and BM is in many ways a logical next step. Little Palace could do about it I reckon. Re Andersen, maybe at 28, the offer Fulham made was too good to turn down especially if they had turned his head with the salary offered. Equally, who knows if Andersen had turned down contract extensions so placing Palace in an awkward situation?

From memory, he cost around £17m so not a bad return from a pure financial perspective.
i believe it was 22m EUR upfront with another 3m in add ons. So c£20m overall. Wiki says there is also a 12.5% sell on clause - hope this is on profit and not overall transfer fee received.

Not only Fulham, but also West Ham and Villa are very active.
Furthermore, Brighton are one of the top spenders in Europe this summer with a current outlay of around £150m .
They may not have finished yet and seem to have bought in some good young players.
To date we've spent less than £30m on Riad and Sarr although there's also a financial commitment on Kamada
We've taken reputedly £50m on Olise, but it's unclear if that takes into account costs (e g sell on fee to Reading).

It's fair to leave it until the end of the window for a proper assessment and then even longer to see how any new players settle in.
Another season of transition beckons.

Ideal scenario for us get Marc to sign a new deal with a 70m release clause which can be activated next summer. Captain the side this season and enhance his reputation more.
Sign Lacroix who apparently is pacey something Joa lacks as we saw on Sunday. As long as Ollie is on board with all this im ok with it. We dont want to piss off our manager so early in his reign. It may be nothing but ive got a feeling Sarr wasn't an OG pick and could spend a lot of time on the bench this season. Ollie must give his blessing to transfers in and out otherwise he'll be off.
With our Injury record Sarr will get his moment.

I don't need to wait, how well we do in this transfer window is a slightly different topic. Even if we have a blinder I still don't like selling our better players to rivals.

Joa figured that this was his best opportunity to get a big pay day at this stage of his career.

From Palace's perspective, his transfer value is arguably at its peak.

Financially then it looks a no brainer.

From a footballing point of view - with the Guehi issue still live, I don't think it's ideal.

It wouldn't be ideal. But as you said, transfer value at his peak. He's good, and I like him, but nothing we cant replace.
