Is Glasner the problem?

We pressed Spurs defence, played for pace behind Villa's high line, stayed compact so Ipswich couldn't play through us, and went more direct against City who are vulnerable in the air at the back atm, all spot on tactics which bore results, all Glasner's decisions. Close thread.
And scored from a corner after he's been working on set pieces. All good signs that when everyone is fit/up to speed we can start to assert ourselves as well as reacting to the opposition.
Things look brighter than they did anyway.

Love it!

And all with the same formation.... 🙂

Last six games: won 2, drawn 3, lost 1.

Some stats that perhaps put into context our issues:

Only Spurs, Man City and West Ham have had more shots than us this season.
We are 11th for the number of big chances created, ahead of Brighton.
Only Everton and Saints have scored fewer goals.
We have the 9th best defence (in terms of goals conceded).

These stats suggest OG is getting the tactics right, and it is just a case of more confidence or quality when it really matters. For the second game running, we reduced the opposition to trying to score from set-pieces. It wasn't pretty last night but if ever there was a game where it was just about the result, last night was it. The key will be keeping everyone fit.
Great stats, and supports the main view I have of how poorly the attacking signings (Kamada, Nketiah, Sarr) have integrated into the team over the course of the whole season. Especially in terms of goal contributions. Add to that Olise leaving and Eze being off form and you have the main reason we are not midtable.

Fix the forwards' output and we fix our form.

No dont close thread, Glasner has shown in the last six games that he is more flexible in his tactics, playing more direct and the back three playing narrower, giving the wing backs more space, i fully admit that i was completely wrong in my opinion of him, i would have sacked him 5/6 matches ago, a very poor decision, i am, obviously pleased about my opinion being wrong, and also pleased that he is prepared to criticize the Chairman/DOF for the poor transfer window, as he sees it. may the good times role 😉

An opinion is only ever that but we're all entitled to them.

Personally, I've always been dismissive of a 'don't worry everything will be fine' opinion in football but I am more prone to panic. I think with most clubs and their situations, Wolves and Spuds as two sticking out to me right now, it is often a case of a manager not being the root problem but also, not the solution either.

I sincerely hoped Glasner would find solutions but it was looking increasingly unlikely. They do seem to be coming, I hope they continue to do so, and we have a productive window in January. Glasner finding success here is infinitely more preferable to a change in manager. COYP.

Couldn't agree more Nick. I reckon he's a good fit for our club.

Without wanting to pour too much cold water on things we are still only on 13 points, 4th from bottom and still in a relegation fight. The last week has been much better but let’s close the thread when we are clear of relegation concerns.

Jeez, you really are a neggy nelly.

This thread is less about our position, but more about if we have the right man to lead us. Even Lanzo has changed his tune, so we must do!

I’m fully supportive of Glasner for the following reasons:

Positive, attacking football
Never afraid to change players or make substitutions
Makes sense in his pre and post match talks
Had no choice in losing Olise
Has brought in LaCroix in place of Anderson which is a significant upgrade on a younger player.
Has only been losing games by a small margin.
Has been unlucky with results
Has achieved some good draws against top teams - Man City, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Man Utd, Newcastle.
Has had to bed in new players and juggle with an injury hit squad which is now recovering well and improving.
ONWARDS AND UPWARDS WITH GLASNER!!

Lol. You are right I probably am being too negative. I suppose I should feel much more Christmas cheer. I win at the Weed might even get me to crack a smile

How on earth could we ever replace this superstar ??

Almost impossible, but it would have helped if we had bought a left footed attacking player as our major purchase instead of a second striker who doesn't play, and Hong Kong Phooey as highest earner, we would have at least kept the balance, hopefully that will be rectified in the next window as well as a LWB

Fair enough. To be honest you said some pretty scathing things about him a few weeks back. None of which in my opinion was fair at the time but respect for standing up and admitting when you are wrong. Not always an easy thing to do when you've been digging your heels in.
I believe the wins will become more regular once Wharton is back and (hopefully) we strengthen immediately the window reopens.

What i enjoy most during Glasner era is the mentality change while building the game from back. Instead of getting rid of, we try to pass and find a gap to attack. I can hear that it triggers anxiety in Selhurst Park and yes we may conceed or lose a game, but it for sure have positive impact to dictate our play.

However, still waiting more productive engagement with Henderson and the team while starting the game. That bit requires more work.
