Is Glasner the problem?

It's good that OG is speaking out about it. Parish and Dougie are smart enough to know that the summer window caused issues.

Hopefully OG being vocal will persuade them to get and deals done early.

While I think we’d all agree with OG about the summer window (especially the timing of ins and outs) it is worth remembering the player he really wanted has proven to be the worst of the lot.

Clutching at straws now... Yeah Kamada has been poor, but for whatever reason he's been played out of position. Perhaps he got the red card to give himself a break and return all fired up...
He can't be worse value than the combined purchases of Nketiah, Franca, Ahamada for starters.

Who is clutching at straws? The person pointing out that OG’s preferred signing has been rubbish or the manager who has one win in 13?

I am saying I agree with OG on the quality and timing of our transfer business. I am just saying maybe his judgement of a player isn’t all that either. Both things can be true.

I sympathise with OG about a disrupted start to the season. However, we are now in December. It’s time to focus on getting results here and now.

Oliver Glasner has expressed his frustration with Crystal Palace's summer transfer window, sharing that the club must not repeat the same mistakes in January.

Reflecting on the first 13 games of the season, Glasner said: “We started the season with five or six players who aren’t here anymore."

“It’s always game by game. Improving how we want to play. There’s lots of space to improve in different situations.

“We give the ball away too easily in too many situations. We miss too many chances. But also we need to encourage the players to work on it - this is what they are doing.

“It’s not that we have a big summary, there’s no time to make a summary on the first 13 games.

“It’s pretty clear that how we acted in the summer shouldn’t be repeated in January.

"We should do much better altogether. This is what we are preparing.
Cynics among us may see this as him lining up excuses in the case of his sacking.. or should that be when he 'Leaves by mutual consent'. However, we all should know now, that this past summer wasn't one in isolation.
Parish and Freedman have 2 methods of buying players: 1) make every effort to court and sign one (perhaps two) before the window has kicked off. 2) of the remaining list of targets, do not overpay, look for a bargain and get top dollar for those that leave. This method means that often deals are done toward the end of the window.
To their credit, we have more recently completed more Early deals that we ever used to(i.e. Riad this year), but still, the majority are late in the window.
I don't expect that to change without a more 'just pay the asking price' philosophy, which I'm not sure SP&Co will ever have.

January is different in that you only really should be buying 1 or maybe 2 players, as the focus is on immediate impact. Hopefully they have been working on getting them in early. But I'm not holding my breath.

Maybe you were a fan of "defensive maestro" Roy Hodgson's methods and would advocate a return to that style of play to secure needed points. But Roy had the same problem as OG, and we were heading for relegation playing in that manner anyhow. The problem being a thin squad and injuries, the same problem OG has faced this season.
I think we've put the ball into the right areas and created enough chances to win games, just that the forwards haven't got their shooting boots on, can't blame OG for that. It does look like the players are up for it and playing for OG and his methods, I see no sign thus far of discontent.
I asked you previously who you think might replace OG and you didn't give a straight answer, so I can only take your posts with a pinch of salt.

In a perfect world ;

* all of our transfer business would be done early enough for the manager to work with the players pre season
* there would be no summer tournaments / no Palace players selected
* players would not return from those tournaments carrying injuries

But it's not a perfect world. Of the above, the only one that the club has a modicum of control over is the transfer element. Even then that doesn't amount to a lot.

Having the intent to get your business done as early in the window as possible is one thing. Achieving it is another.

The January window is slightly different in as much as by this time of the season the Club should have an understanding of what they need to do in order to see an improvement.

My expectation is that we are not going to sell any of our major assets, but we are looking to spend and bring players in. And I would hope that the groundwork is already being done so that Glasner can get quickly get working with any new signings.

I think with Glasner its a work in progress. Its been mentioned by others on here previously. Changing the way we play is not a snap of the fingers and an immediate change. We have traditionally been a counter attacking team that surrenders possession and only generally sees about 30/40% of the ball since before we were promoted 11 years ago. With the exception of a disasterous spell under Frank De Boer where he tried to change too much too soon and the downward spiral of Pardew where he tried to outscore the opposition (even when the opposition had more firepower than us) counter attacking is how its always been.
After Roy, and I'll repeat I think Roy is a lovely bloke, 90% of fans had become bitterly fed up with the negative style. It had to change. Even the tried and trusted Roy style of keep it tight, wait for the opening and hit them hard and fast on the counter was beginning to fail.
We bring Glasner in with the brief to change the way we play. We want to want the ball, play higher up the pitch, keep the pressure on the opposition, use full backs to push their wide players back. Etc, etc.
Now looking at the back end of last season we realise that Glasner made a rod for his own back. We battered everyone who crossed our path and then expectation levels exploded.
Even without the transfer window issues, the loss of Olise, the injury nightmare to key players it was still going to take time to change the way we play into a pressing, ball winning team.
I really hope Glasner stays and sees the job through long term. I can see as others can that there are signs emerging that in the long term we could well end up with a team not just to be proud of but one that is genuinely entertaining to watch week in week out. So this season (or the first half of it) is going to be tough. So what. This is Palace. Tough is what we do. We know all about tough. But we come out the other side of this and I think we are really looking at an exciting future.

I think Glasner is very good. Ok..his Kamada driven signing hasn’t been successful yet but give the player a few more games.

Also bear in mind Glasner has no fault when strikers miss easy chances and goodness gracious me have we a few of those this season. This can all change on a dime and suddenly we could be on a winning streak.

Parish and Freedman need to help him out by signing one or two quality players in Dec. Buy the best left wing-back in the Championship or even Division 1 to allow Mitchell to sit further back. A right back as well because we look a little light on that side.

I hope you are right. We did hear all of this under Viera as well. Great start, attractive play, good results. Transitioning to a possession based team and so on.

Problem was once the form and results deteriorated it never recovered. Hopefully this time it’s different but OG is running out of time to deliver results. Hopefully he can start tonight

Glasner, like Viera has been let down by the signings f Parish. It will be a tight tough season to the wire I am afraid.
Complete Rubbish, Vieira was given Olise, Andersen, Edouard, Mateta, Guehi, Hughes, Gallagher, Doucoure, Richards and Johnstone, Vieira was and is total rubbish, IMO the jury is out on Glasner, but i think he is getting more used to the Premier league requirements.

Last six games: won 2, drawn 3, lost 1.

Some stats that perhaps put into context our issues:

Only Spurs, Man City and West Ham have had more shots than us this season.
We are 11th for the number of big chances created, ahead of Brighton.
Only Everton and Saints have scored fewer goals.
We have the 9th best defence (in terms of goals conceded).

These stats suggest OG is getting the tactics right, and it is just a case of more confidence or quality when it really matters. For the second game running, we reduced the opposition to trying to score from set-pieces. It wasn't pretty last night but if ever there was a game where it was just about the result, last night was it. The key will be keeping everyone fit.

Indeed. We purchased Andersen and Guehi at a combined total of close to £40m precisely to change the style of play and be able to pass from the back. Both were excellent purchases

Stats looking better for OG. Time to stop whining? Team coming back from injury and had time to bed in. Enjoyed watching the last two games. Very positive play. We are playing high and looking for goals.

The Scales are swinging slowly, but at the moment in OGs direction 😆

Let’s hope so. I’ve always said I’d love to be proved wrong.
