Is Glasner the problem?

Who said the win was only down to Glasner? I've heard no one say that. Just the same as the defeat on Saturday wasn't solely down to Glasner either.
In fact I'd say due to the circumstances of that defeat that it was 100% down to the players but I wont be slagging them off either. Our injury list is crippling. They are doing their best. Want to win every week? Go support City. And before anyone starts saying but we dont win at all, since the Spurs game we have won 2, drawn one and lost one due to literally half the team being unavailable.
There's a chasm of difference between giving the guy a ten year contract and giving him a chance!
I don’t expect to win every week. At the start of this season and looking at the fixtures though I expected more than 1 win and 8 goals in 11 games

Its a results business, if he doesn't start to get points soon, that support will wain.
Good point and where exactly will the points come from??

Aston Villa, Newcastle, Brighton, Man City or perhaps Arsenal ??

After these predictable defeats, probably see the Austrian on a very slippery slope, out of Selhurst.

it only takes one or two wins for this conversation to change quite a bit . Some folks need to give it a rest.

Remember it took less than 10 games to completely change our fortune last season.

We’ve beaten all of them before at some point t in the last 2 or 3 seasons so I’m hoping for 6 points.

If we are still in the bottom 3 at the end of December he has to go imo

Villa A Draw
Newcastle H win
Ipswich A win
City H lose
Brighton A draw
Arsenal Cup we should win this one
Arsenal H lose
Bournemouth A Draw
Southampton H win

Hoping for the above results

Problem is he does not have a lot of top class talent to work with. Sarr has not delivered, Nketiah was a very expensive average performance acquisition; lets' not talk about you know who, although the cash outlay is on his monthly wages and signing bonus, presumably amortised over the contract.

The only way we can get out of this spiral into the abyss, is literally to go spend like crazy in January and then jettison the flotsam in the summer. Creative accounting can resolve the P&L and FFP, the balance sheet will need some free cash though on a temporary basis. If we don't invest heavily, we are doomed and so is Glasner as the first casualty of a very unproductive summer pipeline.

I am reminded of the saying "Hope springs eternal".
Some hugely optimistic outcomes, I view the next few games with a great deal of trepidation.

It is the midfield of the pitch where statistically games are played out, won and lost. All good teams have perfect blend of graft and guile.
It's amazing to think that the board didn't understand that a couple of injuries would seriously weaken this side:
Wharton: Injured, needing surgery, yet still played
Eze: Injury prone, blows hot and cold, goes missing during games
Doucoure: Recovering from serious injury, not ready for the rigours of his particular game
Schlupp: Rarely injured, but chronically unfit for the demands of the midfield
Hughes: Suspended. His game play will lead to suspension on occasion
Kamada: Rubbish in midfield, but he's not a midfielder
Lerma: Injured. Another grafter missing.

To conclude - all grafters missing or injured, players with guile injured. Calling for Glasner's head won't make any difference. The new guy will have exactly the same problem trying to put together a vaguely functional side, until the injured are recovered and up to speed.

Never changing tactics, players out of position despite obvious alternatives reminds me of Roy.
However, Nketiah - there should be a reasonable level of expectation: he hasn't anywhere near hit it. Scouting?
Could have reasonably expected more from Kamada. But it looks like physical attributes are not up to standard: for a 28 year old that isn't going to change. Poor scouting.
Sarr - no expectation really. Has never produced much. Was maybe rotation with Ayew - who we sold. There are no other real options in the squad. Certainly could not replace even 1 millimetre of Olise. Stupid buy.

I posted awhile ago about the need for us to have at least 1 or 2 more grafting ‘hughes & lerma’ type midfielders. The Fulham game absolutely showed this. These type of players by there nature and in todays card mad world will pick up injuries and suspensions. With the game often won or lost in this position it seems madness not to have enough to cover and to rest players.

Let’s assume Doucoure recovers his full fitness, it will likely be a midfield of Wharton and Doucoure but Hughes and Lerma are able to fill in without too much drop off (I would actually be happy with Hughes regardless as I think he is an unsung hero in the middle of the park). Devenny was very promising but I saw him as more a Wharton than a Lerma. With this in mind I really think we need to get another solid midfielder in along with a left wing back.

At £30 big ones for Eddie, I can’t see the board looking at buying more goals and we will stick with what we have in JPM and Eddie up top. It is on Glasner to make them find a way to work.

I am convinced that Kamada (pains me to type his name) was brought in to play in Eze’s place thinking he would go. As Eze stayed Kamada has been shoe horned into places he has no business being.

That leaves the huge gaping hole left by Olise. We are just not going to replace that quality. Munich got a £100 million pound player for half price. If £50 million can be a bargain, Olise was it.
We can’t replace him but we can find a solution and there are options out there.

So in my eyes we need just 3 more players. The positions don’t need big spends either.

A left sided Munoz
Another warrior in the middle
A right winger.

What we will likely get is another keeper and 2 more centre backs.

In many ways I agree with your observations on our midfield options, but it doesn't help when every game we are outnumbered in midfield by the opposition.
I would like to see 3 instead of 2 played in midfield.
It would be 2 from Doucoure, Hughes and Lerma together with Wharton.
It's a major shift from how we currently play, but at least we'd have more control in midfield.

Good post. We need another wide attacking player. Sarr is our only option there and really he should be a squad player at this level rather than a regular starter. We also need a left wing back. The summer business was odd. Nketiah wasn’t needed as he is no better than the back up forward options we had. Sarr was an ok signing as a squad player / sub but shouldn’t have been one of our key targets like he was. The centre half’s were ok but in an area that didn’t really need it.

I am pretty sure we expected to sell Eze and Guehi as you say hence buying two centre backs and bringing in Kamada. That didn’t happen leaving us an unbalanced squad and panic selling Andersen to make the books add up which was a big mistake in my opinion

Agree on the importance of CM.

I suspect the board thought we were pretty stacked in central midfield. Wharton, Doucoure, Lerma, Hughes, Kamada if needed. Enough to happily let Ozoh go on loan.

Glasner is the man. Hughes will be back for the next game, and hopefully Lerma or Doucoure will be ready too.

All will be good

Did you watch Saturday's game?

Did you think tactically things were ok? Did you think the half time reshuffle worked?

If everyone chills we will be playing championship football next year.

Yeah it was terrible. But we had no CM. No amount of reshuffling would have made any difference

It's valid to consider what me may need in January, but we may also need to factor in outgoings.
I don't believe JPM has signed a new contract and if he doesn't , and we get a suitable offer, I could see him leaving.
It also wouldn't surprise me if top clubs test the water on Guehi and Eze, particularly if they are pushing to consolidate Champions League places.
There's also been interest in Lerma and we have demonstrated that we're not averse to taking money for players around 30.
Then we have the possibility that we could have a new manager at this stage.

Ideally you don't want too much upheaval mid season, but at the moment it's difficult to have too much certainty about how it may play out.

IMO there wont be any outgoings in the Jan window. Except for maybe Holding.

We made some sales in the summer, but were in a very different position. Team playing well, and looking forward OE and JA weren't likely to get much game time.
