No this was departures at both Heathrow and Larnaca. I still used the egates at Heathrow when we arrived back home.

So even if you destroy your documents on the plane they have a record of who left the UK on which passport and an actual photo of the person which should match the passport.

I guess the question then is do they share this data? If I am scanned at Larnaca and then destroy my documents can Heathrow get the data from Cyprus?

Good to learn this. It seems to be doing the kind of thing I suggested was necessary a few months ago. If we insist on similar processes from all countries from which non documented arrivals have arrived, or from the airlines themselves, then we get control again.

It wouldn’t bother me anyway. What bothers me is behaviour, not who is doing the behaving. So long as people are respectful, both of me and the culture I treasure, all is good. It’s down to us to ensure that happens. If you care enough about that then you put the effort in.

I was in Exeter last Saturday evening and saw some awful behaviour and attitudes. Much of it from loud mouthed, aggressive, obese and under dressed young women. All of whom appeared to be locally born.

Firstly, you are of course more of an expert as you live in Truro, so I am not going to argue. However, I have written what I experienced yesterday, yes “obviously “ meant those whose appearance suggested they were from an ethnic background, I only spoke to shop assistants, all who were English, something that is somewhat unfamiliar to me, even living in Horsham!
My comment regarding Falmouth was regarding the makeup of food outlets, not their employees… kebab shops, Turkish barbers etc.
Obviously Truro is not an inner city, I think the discussions have suggested exactly the opposite

I have never noticed either a kebab shop or Turkish barber in Falmouth and I spend quite a lot of time there! There’s a lovely real ale pub on the quay where you can bring in your own food. Mostly pasties from the kiosk next to it or fish and chips from the shop the other side. There is though quite a wide range of eateries there, Falmouth being somewhat cosmopolitan in character.

I have never noticed either a kebab shop or Turkish barber in Falmouth and I spend quite a lot of time there! There’s a lovely real ale pub on the quay where you can bring in your own food. Mostly pasties from the kiosk next to it or fish and chips from the shop the other side. There is though quite a wide range of eateries there, Falmouth being somewhat cosmopolitan in character.

Ah! It is definitely a start but, of course, these wouldn’t pick up forged documents. Any data would be shared, this seems to be more of a security airline initiative, as airlines are fined for every u documented arrival, so covering themselves. We had similar at Orlando, going through outbound security but were not given a copy.

True but getting all countries to comply is another matter. However, you cannot take back control if you can’t remove them. Even if we know where they come from, there is a little matter of HRA which comes into play in most cases now. Also if the arrivals were only in transit in the country they arrived from, removal is not possible. Nor is it possible if they claim they felt unsafe in that country. Example Ecuadoreans arriving from Spain “ we don’t want to be in Spain as too many South Americans there” fact.

I am having second thoughts about why we need these machines. I assumed it was to link people to passports to stop illegal immigration.

However it maybe to count the number of people leaving the UK. As we all know the government hasn't a clue about people who over stay their visa or whether a wanted criminal has actually fled the country.

So in hindsight I think it is more about exit than entry, which I don't have a problem with.

Anything that helps tighten up the system is fine by me.

I don’t doubt you are right and this is only one piece of a jigsaw that is unlikely to ever be completed. But it is a piece. What the next ones might be we must wait to see. The only thing that’s certain is that there are no easy answers in a world with challenges in every direction.

so Falmouth doesnt have a ton of blokes driving new Ferrari's from the proceeds of an empty shop ? allegedly. Its mad the money you can make from cutting hair. Even when there are a dozen other barbers in close proximity.
