Glasner's future

This summer was really the acid test for the club to prove to Glasner that we are serious in matching his ambitions. He asked for business to be done early in the window, nothing about spending big.

Again, we have stood still, as per usual.

I Think Glasner knows it will be another slow start to the season, and again we fail to recognise our potential. Hence, why he wanted new players in early to get the team to fully gel before he start of the season.

I can only think he will be snapped elsewhere at the end of the season, and we will have missed the boat.

There are those with whom I have engaged in communication who are not confident that Glasner will be in situ for the entire season.

What happens at board level is very much kept in the dark. But it stands to reason that if you pump £150 million plus into a premier football team, you will need to be prepared to lend/invest the same again to cover future running expenses. Johnson must be fully aware of this, so I am confident the funds will be forthcoming to cover (even short term) all the necessary costs of buying and selling the players that have been discussed inside out on here.
Parish and team are surely flat out on this topic and I would be very surprised if Glasner is not fully in the loop. So much talk in the press is camouflage or nonsense more often than not.
That's my guess anyway.

UEFA!

And Guehi/Eze.

When Textor gave his Talk sport, interview he mentioned how everyone was leaving the club. He didn’t appear very specific , but I’m sure he slipped in the word manager. Maybe I misheard. Does anyone else recollect what he said?

I listened to it and have no recollection of him saying anything about Glasner leaving

What are you on about both those clubs have gone and spent £££ (Everton around 60m - Newcastle around 60m)

Newcastles case they have missed out on a few targets because other managed to get them.

Palace has not even spent 3 million with only 2 people coming in. (winning the cup and being in any EU comp has given us fiance boost and still wont spend)

Glasner is playing it smart I understand him not signing a new deal it gives him a chance to see what the club does and other clubs that may be open to him.

Tex has said it SP is happy to just stay in the league well expect Glazner to walk away then he wants to compete.

I can see us getting someone like Calvert Lewin on a free with a loan maybe another few cheap signings only.
It's simple really. I mentioned these 2 clubs as both managers have recently expressed their frustration at their lack of incoming transfers.

You seem to have a very basic understanding of how to build a squad and seem to view the total outlay as the main barometer.

Newcastle are in Champions League and have essentially just bought Elanga to provide competition on the right. Callum Wilson has left so they are very short in the striker dept, as they were all last season at CB, hence Howe's frustrations.

Everton have bought a few but their squad is still short after a number of summer departures.
They have essentially bought a player they already had on loan and a striker to replace Calvert Lewin. Moyes has said he wants another 6.

Palace are clearly short in a few areas and are overly reliant on the 3 CBs and the top 3 staying fit. However, we didn't really lose anyone of any consequence (Ward and Jeff S) in the summer so we are not worse off. Clearly, no one is happy with our current transfer dealing but as i said we are not the only club where the manager is openly frustrated.

Incidentally, we also have very little extra money - the FA cup generated c£3m - equivalent to 1 extra place in the Premier League.

If we do get put in the Europa League the appearance and prize money is limited and will barely cover the extra costs of travelling around Europe

How are we planning on travelling if European football barely covers our costs??? Bizarre comment

If you get to league phase or beyond you make money with gates, match day income, tv money, sponsorship and prize money. That will outweigh travel costs, extra wages players due in bonuses and match day costs

My recollection is that he stated that Parish has lost his Sporting Director and that he has lost managers (Plural).

More like you don't understand.

Managers always want more that is how they are.

Newcastle have signed 4 players and Wilson was injured most of the time he didn't even play 400 minute last season but yes they need a replacement especially with Isak wanting out.

Everton have signed 4 players as well with most of the ones going out are players 30+ ( Lewin has been replaced already)

You may want to check things before commenting.

The level of players we lost is not different to those other clubs mentioned but in our case we know Guehi will be gone if not this season but next and I expect Ezi will as well so we need that covered you don't just wait.

The FA Cup did not generate only 3m who is feeding you this BS you are one looking at it simple that is just the base prize money you get a lot more revenue from other areas.

The last line is again 100% BS do your homework.

Some people here really are not very bright and have no understanding how real world or business works.

Has Hol turned into a confessional?

It's not at all clear to me that Johnson will help out. It is an issue with multi-owner clubs. Why would one put in money if they do not get an increase in the equity of the club? Even Ratcliffe, who could afford it, is talking (at least) of having to sell players to spend more. And he is a lifelong fan of his club whereas Woody Johnson likely had never heard of us until he turned 70

Nobody could have predicted that this euro nightmare would be such a drag on the club, that one of the big shareholders would sell up and be replaced. The club on a financial level probably has no idea yet where it stands in terms of investment from woody.

After last seasons comedy transfer window and the nightmare start I would not be surprised if OG said bollocks to this and left. From his side of things I can see he has more than fulfilled his side of things. The FA cup win will live with us all for the rest of our days. The club 100% need to keep him happy because if he goes we will take a massive step backwards at a time that is looking like an amazing opportunity to grow in stature and as a club.

That said, as long as nobody leaves (And I genuinely think MG and Eze will be here this coming season along with everyone else) then that does not seem like a dreadful window. I maintain we will get a couple of bargain squad players but that’s it. I think if any of the starting regulars were definitely leaving then I believe the club would have done business.

Even if a few new players come in at the end of the transfer window, unlike last year we should be fine as we will be starting with the current FA cup winning team who all know there place and roles in the team.

I doubt in the extreme if Johnson thinks his financial commitment ends at his initial investment. And why can't he be satisfied with the percentage he's bought ?

As for Ratcliffe, he's inherited an unholy mess at United. Not a fair comparison in my view.

And for the piece in bold - that's just not the case....City, Liverpool, Chelsea, are definitely MCO's and they seem to be doing ok.

A lot is being made of last summer's transfer window and the negative effect it had. I agree that it contributed towards the poor start we had, but I don't believe it was the main reason.

If you look at the headline business we did, Olise's departure was a big blow but with an air of inevitability about it. Ayew had been brilliant for us but wasn't part of OG's plans. Andersen's leaving wasn't done until the last minute - but in truth didn't cause too much disruption. Lacroix came in, already versed in Glasner's ways, and settled in pretty quickly. Chalobah was a decent loan...Nketiah, well let's just say we haven't seen a consistent best from him yet.

So I would contend the main issue last season was the effects on the players that played international football last summer. And of course a couple of them sustained injuries while away.

I'm a huge fan of Glasner, and of course I would like to see some signings to bolster the squad. He may feel let down by the Board given the promises made to him, but he better than me knows that sometimes you can't control the narrative. I know some on here thinking that the Guehi/Eze sagas shouldn't come into play but I think they do. And for what it's worth I've seen that view in the media too.
