Glasner's future

Glasner is far from stupid. Everyone is frustrated at the uncertainty of the Europa League situation but the timetable is out of our hands. The outcome must impact not only our thinking but that of players leaving or arriving. So whilst frustrated he will understand and be trying to get things ready as best he and his team can. Once we know the outcome of the appeal I expect things to move swiftly, both out and in. I would think the deals are mostly all agreed, and just the paperwork needs completion.

When Glasner initially signed it was a 2.5 year contract, which is quite short.

He is clearly ambitious and probably sees Palace as a good stepping stone opportunity. Perhaps he also realises that his 'methods' seem to be most effective in the 1st couple of years as he has not stayed at previous clubs beyond a couple of years.

This the summer he had every opportunity to extend his contract on massively improved terms and has thus far declined. That is 100% his prerogative.

Clearly he is not happy about the lack of signing - who wouldn't. However, we are not alone here - Newcastle and Everton have also expressed similar frustrations.

Ultimately we knew what we were getting from Glasner.

He would give us 2.5 years and then probably leave - it is what it is.

What are you on about both those clubs have gone and spent £££ (Everton around 60m - Newcastle around 60m)

Newcastles case they have missed out on a few targets because other managed to get them.

Palace has not even spent 3 million with only 2 people coming in. (winning the cup and being in any EU comp has given us fiance boost and still wont spend)

Glasner is playing it smart I understand him not signing a new deal it gives him a chance to see what the club does and other clubs that may be open to him.

Tex has said it SP is happy to just stay in the league well expect Glazner to walk away then he wants to compete.

I can see us getting someone like Calvert Lewin on a free with a loan maybe another few cheap signings only.

There are a lot of ifs and buts here.

For starters, going out and buying new players is, I am sure, not so simple as some make out. There is no point in rushing the process and over-spending on players who turn out to be unsuitable and over-priced just for the sake of doing business before the season starts. Yes, it would have been good to have got a couple of more signings on board by this point but only if they were really going to add something to the squad.

Then there is the question as to who stays and who goes. I assume at this stage that Glasner has a pretty good idea as to which players may, or may not, exit, however, as we are not party to that we can only speculate. Perhaps we haven't done much business in transfers because the mass exodus of our most valued players is not going to happen.

I don't follow the transfer activities of other clubs that closely, but I don't get the impression that there has been a huge amount of activity in the market outside of the likes of Liverpool and other big clubs who can splash the cash.

Pete, if you can be bothered (!) I posted a breakdown on the ' Time to start doing business ' thread - have a read

Understand what ? That an administrative error undone all his hard work last season and now sees us competing in a tinpot competition instead, the only thing he will understand is the board have let him and the players down.

OG knows exactly what he is doing , only if you want the world to know do you give that sort of interview . Hodgeson, did something similar without the headlines, in his case it wasn’t seen as an ultimatum, but this is much more likely to be so. If only because OG made his feelings on last pre-season very public . Now he complains of an unkept promise. It doesn’t seem OG see,s himself as a middling club manager, or experience would tell him this is common place. Another decent season and he could well be gone.

I wonder what the difference is between this & the "tribe of clickbait journo's that do their pathetic stirring" (your words) on the Eze to Spurs thread?

As I said he isn’t stupid. He knows, even if you seem not to, that there wasn’t any “administrative error”. That sounds like Simon Jordan on his hobby horse. I expect Parish will have explained the reality to him and shares the frustration.

Clubs don’t control their shareholders. We could no more insist that Textor put his shares in a blind trust than fly to the moon. Why, when he was trying to sell them would he do that anyway? Why would the club even encourage him to when the guidance says blind trusts cannot be used for next season. He needed to divest, which he had been trying to do for 2 years and has now done.

Glasner has never managed a top club, only mid table clubs, where he has done well, generally 2 years then walks, his methods are suited to a counter attacking team, and you cannot play that way at a top European club, the fans won't accept it, i still think he is a one trick man, but it is a very good trick.

SP - "Hello Roy, remember me, Steve Parish? I'm in a bit of bother Roy and I was rather hoping you could do an old friend a favour!"
RH - "Hello Steve, yes I remember you... Now listen Steve, I've heard about what's going on."
SP - "Really Roy? How?"
RH - "I have my ways Steve, and by the way, you shouldn't believe everything you read in the press. Anyway, I said that my managerial days are over, so thanks but no thanks."
SP - I did promise you your very own statue on the walk up to the new stand Roy."
RH - "So you did Steve, so you did, but still..."
SP - " Tell you what Roy, do me this one favour and I'll have the new stand named after you, how's that sound?"
RH - "Why didn't you say so earlier Steve? When do I start?"

Disagree - I think he’s clearly on a path to joining a top level club and will end up at one sooner than later.

Bayern already tried to get him.

This will 100% be his last season with us. Let's just hope he sees the season out. He made it quite clear last season how he felt about the way we went about business in the transfer window and it would appear we have completely ignored him and are doing exactly the same thing this season.

That coupled with the whole Europa debacle is hardly a compelling case by us to make him stay is it? We really don't do ourselves any favours at times do we?
You know what, and people might not like this but I would completely understand if he left right now.
We are just about to embark on a Premier League campaign with European Football thrown in and we have 17 outfield players, with some of those not good enough to be playing Premiership football.

It's not a good look.

I am sure he will get offered a top clubs job, whether he takes it, or if he does is successful is another thing.
