Eze to spurs?

its very sad to lose a player like ebbs ,but his head has been turned and there nothing we can do about it lets just hope we spend the money on the right signings 😕

I'm still trying to get my head round all this

After the highs of winning the FA Cup & Charity Shield, then the downer of the whole CAS/UEFA, losing one of our key/best players on the eve of the new season seems just absurd.... and is just another kick in the nads. I'm disappointed that Ebbs wants out tbh.

How on earth are we supposed to compete in ANY competition without players like Ebbs & Marc? Our squad is so thin. Glasner must be pissed despite his calm appearance......... I can see him going in May too.

JP yet to sign a new contract too.... and not forgetting Marc will probably go any minute too...

What is going on with Parish? Has he been so focused on the Europe thing, that he's left everything else too late?

I was really excited for this season....... that's somewhat drained away now.......

Welcome to the world of supporting Crystal Palace!!!!

Being a Palace supporter you should know……’life in never dull’ 😂

It’s gonna be really sad to see Ebs go (if he does)

I also don’t think he’ll be overly successful at a club like Spurs. Like when Zaha left.

He Is a truly wonderful player, but what made him shine out was the system that he plays in here. Look at the FA Cup final - Man City had a number of players on that pitch who if given space can do damage. But they didn’t get space. They had all the possession, but I’d argue Palace look the most likely to score every time.

Ebs is part of a three. Him, Sarr and Mateta - and the space that he was given to look brilliant was created by them, in the same way he created space in return. I think he’s a kind of player who works in a fast counter attacking side and those three gelled.

I’m not sure he will work as well in a side that’s going be possession based and expected to dominate against all bar half a dozen teams.

If he goes good luck to him, thank you for the memories.

Shortly after our FA Cup triumph, Eze said in a video that he wanted to win everything. In other words, he wasn't planning on staying.

Add to that Parish's statement that he was surprised that no-one came in for Eze last Summer, can we surprised that the player's on his way?

Unlike others, I don't have a particular hatred for Spurs (in fact, I don't particularly hate any club). They've got CL football this season and in Thomas Frank they have the manager I'd quite like to have at Palace if Glasner wasn't here.

I'll be sad to see him gone but:
  1. i'll remember him for his role in our FA Cup triumph and especially the latter rounds.
  2. He's provided some brilliant moments for us over the five years he's been here
  3. We bought him knowing that if he was going to be as good as the club thought he was going to be, the day would come when we would sell him for a decent profit.
The annoying thing for me is that he's just reaching his peak and Spurs will probably get the best of him if he stays fit.

Unlike some, I don't put him in the Isak camp; Only yesterday, Glasner confirmed that both he and Guehi had trained fully all week for today's game; in other words, he's been fully professional till the end.

That doesn't seem very likely. Olise was pretty much nailed on to leave and we could hardly afford to have lost both. Plus, if he couldn't sell him for the release clause last year, why would he think he would go for the same sum a year older and a year closer to the end of his contract?

Some interesting quotes in the article from Parish last summer

Eze can go to Spurs, while the hype machine is rolling it's time to cash in! Personally I find him a tad over rated, he can't tackle or header, takes a terrible penalty and goes missing in games. Inconsistent. Clubs pay for consistency, and should we get a sizable fee for him then Spurs fans will soon find out what he's all about.

No denying any of that but he's still one of the most exciting players we've ever had who's capable of creating a buzz whenever he gets the ball and I love watching him play. Whether the Spuds' fans will cut him as much slack as we have is doubtful and if they start getting on his case it could go wrong for him there.

Especially when they play him on the left.

100%

Plus the move is fundamental in our new(ish) strategy of buying potential and reselling for profit with the aim of strengthening the squad as a whole. However painful it is to see great players leave I accept it as I think it's a sensible longer term plan.

My main concern is do we have the know-how to recruit properly. Imo opinion if we get around 60m we need to bring in 3 decent players with a high ceiling. Not get suckered into putting most of it into desperately seeking a replacement and spending 40m+ on someone like Elliott etc. There are players to be found if we're smart, but the purchase of Nketiah last year still concerns me. This broke our reasonably successful transfer model and has been fairly disastrous.

Spot on, great player when his in the mood but not consistent. Think that's why the very top clubs did not bid for him

The latest from Sky Sports suggests he could still feature for us today, but the move is still likely.

It could all hinge on us signing the young Moroccan from Leicester?

we have 3 owners who are billioneirs do they only lend us money with + 15 % , i thought mr baby powder was going to give us some money so in other words we are broke and we have to sell our best players its a very poor state of afairs 🙁

Exactly. There's no point replacing Eze with a player who's ready to hit the ground running. The strategy is surely to strengthen the squad when selling such a player as Eze. This means that we'll have to go with Devenny, Esse or one of the new players who would be brought in with the proceeds (possibly El Khannouss).

Yes, it means that we probably won't be as good up front as we have been to start with and it will take time with this strategy to build a quality first team Squad that will move us further up the league but we just have to be patient.

It will be interesting to see how many players we bring in with the Eze money. Like you, I'm hoping for 3.

All true, but there's also the factor that he needs the type of players around him who will give him the space and cover to be that exciting player. Will he get that same support from Spurs team mates?

To me the biggèst surprise is how shocked some people are. If you look at the history of the club we have always sold our best players on. For an example Kenny Samson, Ian Wright, Peter Nicolas, Nigel Martyn, Chris Armstrong, Clive Allen etc the list is endless. All have gone for either money (greed) or ambition
Yes it's disappointing when we lose players but others will come along to take thier place. I think Eze is great but inconsistent and perhaps that why a top 4 side hasn't bid for him. Going to spurs seems like a sideways move bearing in mind he may play more games in europe with us this season then with spurs but money talks as usual
Moving from Palace to Spurs is not a sideways move, even if they finished 17th, which was a one off, with one of the worst one dimensional managers the prem has ever had.

We all know we will loose the two. It's just the season has started this should have all been done months ago.
It is frustrating but it is also difficult to make a sale happen earlier than buying clubs want to, unless demand is high. We could however buy cheap replacements before selling. Then there’s the debate over how much do you lose in negotiations in transfers both ways buying before or after.
