Whilst this thread is about Edouard, quite a lot of angst seems pointed at Eddy Nketiah, with most of that suggesting that we paid way too much for him -

One suggests: A super sub, below 10 million would have been appropriate.

I would be interested to know what others think would have been a reasonable / acceptable price to pay, for Nketiah, in a competitive market, bearing in mind what it costs these days to buy a 23 year old striker, from a top 6 club with any number of PL minutes & some goals to their name.


Its not unusual in the current market to see PL clubs spending 15 million for squad players / benchwarmers

That puts him in the sub bracket though, wouldn't you say? That is what Arsenal defined his role to be, given his attributes. I think the manager of Arsenal knows better than you, having worked with the player. In other words, we paid £25m plus £5m add-ons, on a five year deal. For a substitute. No way he will displace JPM whilst he is here. Worth mentioning that Nketiah earns vastly more than JPM too, no wonder Mateta is looking for a new deal. Good work Dougie! Crazy.
You've been banging on about Nketiah for some while, perhaps you can't admit that your judgement is flawed.

No, it puts him behind Giroud, Sanchez, Lacazette, Aubameyan, Jesus and Havertz, always since 2017 until he left, 2 players in front of him, all better than him at the time

I think somewhere around £10m to £13m plus add ons would have been about right. As you say that’s the market for a 25 year old player with some experience. Crazy but it is what it is. Paying him £90k a week is a lot as well. That seems over the odds for a squad player. Makes you think we thought JPM was moving on and Nketiah was his replacement. Let’s hope he comes good and turns into the player some on here think he can be.
 
Neither good enough to be a starting striker in the premier league , in my opinion.
If JPm leaves we would need to buy a replacement, that would start games, 50 million ish.
Eduoards wages seem too high, when you think where he came from. Nketiah blew a big lump of the Olise money on him, for a striker who the DOF wanted for ages , but doesn’t fit our system. Our best buys have been buying youngsters between 10-20m from the championship recently, also the wages aren’t ridiculous. Would have rathered gone down that route for a back up striker.

chelsea gave us Loftus Cheek and Gallagher..........both mustard

arsenal gave us Sanogo and a load of other broken fools.

He's not a 10 or a winger. So i'm not sure though he was given a starting role, it is that telling. He's a no 9 - when he plays there consistently, we'll know what he can do for us. Would help if Eze is on form and Wharton back as well. Those opening matches were not exactly fruitful for JPM either...

JPM goes in the summer, for sure. He'll have two years left on his contract and he wont sign a new one. Sarr might become the big man up front in a new line up.
