Whilst this thread is about Edouard, quite a lot of angst seems pointed at Eddy Nketiah, with most of that suggesting that we paid way too much for him -
One suggests: A super sub, below 10 million would have been appropriate.
I would be interested to know what others think would have been a reasonable / acceptable price to pay, for Nketiah, in a competitive market, bearing in mind what it costs these days to buy a 23 year old striker, from a top 6 club with any number of PL minutes & some goals to their name.
Its not unusual in the current market to see PL clubs spending 15 million for squad players / benchwarmers
V sensible. 10m in striker terms doesn't get you much. In Nketiah, it was a young striker who has shown he could score when given the opportunity.
The difficulty with signing a young player from a bigger club, is the expectations (probably by most parties) that if he's nearly good enough for Arsenal (and always scored when called upon) then he'll automatically be one of of our best players.
Hence high wage and high fee.
But sign a player from the championship, the assumption is that its going to take him some time to get up to speed etc.
