Eagles v Man City Thread

It's one of those games where the scoreline doesn't match the chances created.

It happens.....sucks a bit if you were there but hey ho.

I'm happy to move on.

Whole team must practice shooting under pressure, relentlessly.
This is our main failing.

I think Mateta misses Eze the most.
The chances that fell to Pino and Wharton would have been snapped up by Eze.

We need new players and if Guehi leaves next month a deputy will be essential.

Overall I thought we played well today but City are better and have a strong bench. No disgrace but we move on. 3 points on Thursday to avoid play-offs and a draw or better against Leeds. We can do it.

I am convinced we are due to absolutely paste somebody. These things even themselves out over a season and soon those chances we miss will click and start going in. Considering how stretched our team is and how many chances we’ve missed, we are still 5th.

Tell me I’m wrong but I could not have dreamed we would be where we are and have done what we have done so far this season. Amazing really.
I hear what you are saying but look down the table. There are so many teams close to us that a couple of defeats will drop us down the league. Not saying this isn’t the best year ever but let’s be realistic. Our squad is not only small but those players play for us because they aren’t clinical like the Man City’s of the premiership. Yes, we might get a game where we put chances away but most matches will be like today and has been all season. The strength where we are as good as the City’s is our organisation under Glasner and especially the back 3 and wing backs. Sadly our team doesn’t have the goals within them :-(

Why? If Mateta fluffs a good chance that's down to him, Eze or no Eze.

A message to all the doom-mongers on HOL.

We just lost to the team that won mid-week at the Bernabau. They had 24 hours extra rest than us. They are now second in the Prem table , behind the team that is also top of the Champions League table.

no shame in any of that. We are still mustard.

i am also proud of the guts and determination shown by the whole squad.
Agree. Shows where we are… dissappointed not to beat City having played well, knocking around the top4, in European football, qtr finals of league cup and FA cup still ahead of us as champions. Life isn’t so bad!

The difference between cherki and pino is staggering considering they were at the same price point. I remember when we was linked with Cherki at some point.
Hard to disagree today but I am hoping that Cherki has reached his top level and Pino is yet to get there. A bit like it took players like Eze, Mateta and Kamada time to get settled and progress.

I think the trend with Pino is positive and he may still become a big player for us.

Is what it is.

We were excellent in the first half. But, goals win games, and they scored their chances and we didn't.

Not a travesty, but annoying. Still good to know that we can go toe to toe with one of the best teams in the world.

I know I'm part of the fan club, but thought Kamada was excellent today.
Fair play, he was decent today. See Mr Robbo...happy to admit when he's had a good game 😉

agree with the general thrust of the comments - defeat down to finishing. I thought Richards was superb, and I hope the Kamada sceptics noticed how our level dropped when he went off - took us five minutes to get out of our half. I loved it when we were 0-2 down and Richards is trapped in possession in the right back position - no hoofing it up the line, instead we went infield with lovely interplay, swiched it and set up a chance - great move. Pass of the day was the lofted one to the left of the penalty area by Kamada which their defender thought wrongly he would be first to. I like it when we ping it around the middle and set up Wharton and Kamada to make through balls - proper football. I was proud of that performance.

Still can't believe we've lost 0-3. Fans staying to applaud the team at the end, we know what we saw. Take it on the chin because for 40 mins we could have had this sewn up. Is what it is, but as mentioned here we need to be far more clinical. Score first today it's a different game.
I want the win in Europe as priority 1, and to avoid a play off would be so good. All down to Oli and how he prioritises the next 3. Does he think we can seriously progress in the Carabao Cup? We can't play the first team back to back.
In Oli we trust and I know he will find the right solution.

I have admitted Kamada played well to day. But disagree the levels dropped...Hughes won the ball high time after time and we had so much ball in and around their box.

Another reminder of the fine margins, particularly this season.

For me the turning point was when Kamada was down Pep called everyone over and clearly instructed them to press high. This directly led to their second goal 5 mins later. As loathe as I am to say it, good management that.

The other thing that struck me was the away support. In the first half when there was a lengthy stoppage for a Man City head injury, the noise volume dropped for the first time and the away fans started singing 'Is this the Etihad?' which I enjoyed. I also secretly like that they join in with glad all over at the start of the game.

Oh and Palace really good and kept energy levels up. Agree with other comments its all going to come together in a game soon.

I expected a defeat but I never expected Man C to win by 3 goals. In actual fact when asked before the match my immediate response was 0-2.
The scoreline does not reflect the overall match. It was our efficiency in front of goal which was sorely lacking and cost us dearly.
The much maligned Kamada played with assurance, Mateta laboured throughout the game and Pino was hardly involved in the second half.Wharton excelled, he just need to improve his shooting !

City fans singing “we’ve got guardiola” to our tune not joining our anthem 😂
