Eagles v Man City Thread

Yep, a pinpoint cross to the unmarked Harland , he had time to look up and pick him out.
Richards needed to be closer and at least trying to compete for the ball
I am in total agreement with this analysis.
You commented that Nunes had time to deliver the cross. My view is that Richards had the time to assess his positioning in relation to Haaland. A free header was not a good look.

Obviously with the amount of games we've got coming up, losing players to injury is never a good thing. But one silver lining could be the reinstatement of the midfield pairing that performed so well for us last season when we were playing the best football any Palace team has played in years.

But yes, as stated previously many times, reinforcements needed. Especially in those front two areas behind the striker - as Kamada was one who often filled that role.
Really? Our performance dropped off when Kamada went off injured and your favourite midfielder came on. Sorry, whilst I'm a Hughes fan and like what he can bring to the team, Kamada and Wharton work so well together both in terms of moving the ball forward and positioning themselves to intercept the oppo's passes.

I thought we were City's equal except in the finishing department where we were very wasteful yet again. Clyne was very hardworking putting in a respectable performance and some of Kamada's passing was excellent; if Daichi had Hughesy's ability to break up play he'd be top drawer. If we could just find a clinical striker with a decent first touch in January I think we would stand a good chance of ending the season in the top 4.

Until February last year Hughes was the better player, after then it was Kamada.

Here's todays stats and you'll see Kamada is not only the better player with the ball but also without. It certainly aligns with my view of what I see on the pitch.

Our midfield performance dropped off when Kamada went off. You could say it was about a slight change in pressing from Man City but they can only play as well as we let them and between Kamada and Wharton we weren't letting them.

My view is that Haaland is a bit taller than Richards and he has the ability to jump higher than most making him very difficult to defend against. We should have blocked the cross.
Mateta should study Haaland's technique as his offensive heading is poor (but he is good at defending crosses)

Richards got caught under the ball and wasn't able to get off the ground properly.
I'm going to cut him some slack as it's possibly the first header he's missed this season.

In recent games Mateta has resembled an animal that brays.
Indeed, cows are no longer seen to clench their buttocks in anticipation as he approaches with his banjo, and neither are farmers expecting damage to their barn doors as he passes, fish rest happily in their barrels upon his arrival.

Sorry, that's just not true. We were winning balls higher up the field and causing them problems right throughout Hughes' time on the field. Don't get me wrong, Daichi played well. But I and most other fans I speak to maintain the best combo is WH/AW.

Anyway, hoping for a speedy recovery for DK none the less, as we will need all the bodies we can get!

That's because it was about then that Hughes was relegated to a bench role. No one's going to have the same impact getting the odd five mins from the bench.

Anyway, it's all opinions I guess. I respect yours.

We did adjust eventually, but we lapsed immediately Kamada went off, we seemed stuck in our half for a good five minutes b4 we got a foothold in the game - it seems we missed Kamada's interceptions and positional play and took time to adjust, you're right we did adjust but it took us a fair bit of time to do so. And what's good enough for Glasner is good enough for me.

Sure. That's probably true of most substitutions though.

Yes, agreed. In Ollie I trust...goes without saying. I do enjoy the debate though. Aren't we lucky to have four decent midfielders to choose from...certainly hasn't always been the case.

He is excellent with defensive headers where he just needs to get his head on it and power it out of the area, I just wish he had more composure in the opposition area where ihe s often the first to the ball but nothing comes of it. Like Wharton and his shooting

Kamada played well from what I saw, but that's this game and in others Hughes has been better (most others)

Did your football career align with any of these sayings or were you a dead eyed dick in front of goal ex H. 👌
