Eagles v Man City Thread

If we are honest we played the perfect Royball game to win the cup, and deservedly so, but that wasn't going to happen again today. We're at home, trying to bring the game to them, but they are too well rehearsed and have won comfortably in the end.

We've got the FA Cup win against them which is the important one.

We've also been very competitive in this game and 3-0 is a travesty.

They've rarely opened us up and have relied on a lofted cross and us being hit on the break twice.

This is not the City of David Silva, YaYa Toure, Aguero etc which dominated teams (and entertained).
Sounds like sour grapes, but that's my view.

They took their chances and we didn’t end off
Time for Mateta to be dropped
Seen us win games this season and play at lot worse then we did today
I felt kamada was good today, but at times he’s a scapegoat, soon as he went off we suffer3d with the pace in midfield and Wharton plays better with him aside him.
I agree ,Wharton and Kamada play well together. We can’t really afford to lose anyone to injury at the moment

A very harsh scoreline. They took their half chances and we didn't. They've spent a billion and we haven't. Tough lesson in being clinical but I thought we actually played pretty well.

Dust ourselves off for a big one on Thursday and then onto Leeds. Time for the whole squad to step up... Which I'm confident they will.

A out of form mateta I’d have over Nketiah every day. Eddie flatters to deceive almost every week. Still today I’m not sure what his real strength is!

Mateta you can’t argue is out of sorts, but still his presence alone is more important than what Nketiah offers in my opinion.

As for Uche I’m not sure a cameo against an Irish team warrants anything at the moment. 1 season in la liga before that we are talking about a Spanish 3rd divison player, which is what, league 2?

Anyway always a tough game today, on to Thursday and Saturday 💪

I thought we played well.

1) If we played them 5 matches with that intensity & effort, I expect we'd win 3 of them, even given our poor finishing.
2) We missed Muñoz in attack. He remains our MVP. In 1) perhaps I'm assuming we'd have Muñoz.
3) Why didn't Pino take down Savinho immdiately?
4) What were OG and Pep arguing about?
5) Is Henderson better than Pickford?

I have an observation: although we seem to have edged forward as a club in the rankings overall, this improvement is based, I believe, on our defensive capability. It seems to me that the quality of forward play has lagged behind its defensive counterpart. This is not to say we don't create chances, as we do, just that the calibre of player required to finish those chances is not at the club.

We have played pretty decent against a really good side . If you dont score you dont win and giving quality sides like this room to perform and its only ever going to end one way

Thats football folks

That’s all correct.

We didn’t have the quality up front to do justice to the rest of our play and we were uncharacteristically sloppy at the back. 0-3.

The answer is to improve our attack and tighten up elsewhere but games like this expose where we’re lacking and the brutality of top level sport.

Bitter pill to swallow today but provided the team uses it, there’s plenty of games coming up to forget about it/put it behind us.

No composure or ability to place the ball in the net to the side of the keeper. Bang average forwards who rely on the philosophy “just hit it in the general direction and hope”

Don’t they look at this in training or are they afraid of what they’ll find? Who on earth in our team can guide a ball in the net?

We need someone new in January.
