Crystal Palace vs. Newcastle match thread

Ok. I’ve had time to breath…

Defence looked solid. ML is growing on me and looks really good. MG is a rolls Royce. I worry TC has big error in him and I find myself holding my breath when it’s him between an attacker and our goal.

Hendo. Can’t comment as he was not tested.

Munoz, missed one, scored one. Never stopped. Much rather have him than not.

Mitchell, solid at the back, weak distribution.

Lerma and hughes are well… lerma and hughes. Warriors and always put a shift in.

Sarr. This seasons most improved player. Works hard and is a real threat on the break.

Eze. Rusty and again tried to beat too many opponents.

JPM, should have scored. Always works hard.

Subs. Devenny looked good. Eddie and five bellies. No comment.

Did anybody else think OG celebrated that goal like it saved his job?🤔

I don’t think he is the issue. The rub of the green is just not been with us for 12 out of 13 games.

We haven’t played really badly at all. A good few of the games could have gone either way. But…. 13 games is not 5 games. It’s nearly Xmas and we need to start climbing the table.

If we beat Ipswich, 5 points from the last 3 games… most of us would be happy with that. Beat Ipswich and you would hope it’s a stepping stone forwards.

Looking for positives - It might have only been a point but a draw when it's a point gained feels much better than two points lost. Hopefully we can gain some confidence from scoring so late and kick on.

I wasn't at the game but there are very mixed reviews about our performance - Radio London say that Newcastle were poor and we were average at best and there is still cause for serious concern, Sutton echoed that, highlights can be misleading of course but the snippets of our build up play looked really good, and the stats are way on our side, and remember that was our second string midfield pairing and Eze is getting his fitness back - I'm surprised Doucoure didn't get brought on, but he'll surely be involved in the next two games, it seems once again that finishing was the main issue and with players coming back we will improve, it seems Newcastlse were there for the taking and we missed an opportunity, but overall there are more positives than negatives.

Always makes me laugh when people say 'who' when it comes to a new manager... Every single Manager in club football is available. It all depends on how much you want to pay.
I could say the same about people who want Glasner out but offer no replacement.
Yea sure I'll have Zidane please or I heard Pep has one game left to turn it around 😆

Could that be the turning point of our season..??

GTBH – I turned it off with 3 mins to go, so missed the equaliser, just couldn’t believe the chances we missed, it just had the feeling of another game we should have won, but threw it away..!!

We have been competitive in every game we’ve played this season – our points tally/position in the table really doesn’t reflect our performances or the quality of the team/squad..!!

We’ve been crucified by injuries – unless I recall incorrectly, we still haven’t managed to field our first choice XI..!!

All that said, IMO this has all been bought about by Parish and DF – the Guehi saga was a joke, selling Andersen 2 days before the close of the window, similarly ludicrous, and not adequately replacing Olise with a left footed attacker – criminal..!!

A few injuries and then this is the upshot..!!

Positives are Lacroix looks immense – far better than Guehi so far this season and a future Captain..!!

Hughes has been OK, but still desperately slow, liability in a tackle and too lightweight – needs to drop to the bench the moment Wharton is available..!!

Devenney looks a real prospect..!!

Negatives, Mitchell is still woeful – we desperately need a replacement LWB in January..!!

Nketiah – very disappointing, hopefully he will improve..!!

The squad is still woefully lacking in depth..!! That’s all Parish and DF..!!

Ipswich is now huge – need to win..!!

Post Christmas we have a run of winnable games – so recruitment in the January window is crucial – time to dispense with all the rhetoric SP and start doing the do..!!

We need a LWB, left footed attacker and for me more cover in midfield – but quality not cheap/mediocre options..!!

You up for it SP – if not do us all a favour and get out of the kitchen, otherwise this seasons painful pattern will continue..!!

I appreciate you're trying (and failing bless you) to be funny but the fact still remains that every Manager in club football is allowed to be approached, with the permission of their club and is available depending on what you want pay...
I wasn't under the impression that if somebody wants the Manager at their club sacked that they can only make a suggestion of a Manager who is out of work??

Eddie Howe says Newcastle should have won the game.
LOL

He is one manager who I’ve always thought is after Brendon Rodgers deluded crown.

Today followed the pattern of so many games this season.
Competitive and organised, but lacking a cutting edge in the final third.
We lack the game changers of the end of the last season.
Olise has departed, Wharton has been injured and Eze has either been injured or out of form.
So what's going to be the catalyst for change in the final third?
I don't believe Sarr, Mateta and Nketiah have that surprise element in their game to provide that flash of inspiration to wrong foot the opposition.
Therefore before January we're heavily reliant on Wharton's incisive passing being available again asap and/or Eze recovering form.and fitness.
After Christmas we simply have to invest in more attacking quality.

It’s a strange one today, having been at the game it just felt like two toothless teams, but having got home, looked at the stats and watched brief highlights, it would’ve been daylight robbery if we hadn’t got a point, the chances did mount up for us and another game slips by we should’ve won
Glad Munoz got off the mark, I know he gets forward a lot usually, but he’s clearly been told to get forward even more after todays performance

This is controversial but I think I'm open to selling Eze. Obviously when he's in form he's our best player but he thrived the most under Hodgson and his unplayable spells are too infrequent given his injury record and the time it takes him to recover each time.

I say this with full acknowledgement that if he destroys Ipswich I'll be calling for him to get a new contract on 250k a week to tie him down.

The lot of a fan in a nutshell.
Personally I'd try and keep him forever but it'd be nice if his unplayable games outnumbered his non-playing ones.

Well, in all honesty, if Palace were leading 1-0 until the last minute and then a header towards the near corner, where the goalkeeper was standing, was parried into his own goal by him, I would have said the same thing shortly after the final whistle. What had happened in the 94 minutes before wouldn't have mattered to me at that moment. Before everyone starts bashing me: I don't think Newcastle deserved even a point at all based on the way the game went.
