Crystal Palace vs. Fulham match thread

What is Devenny's best position? He seems a jack of all trades, but master of none!
Devenney is a decent utility player that not only covers several positions he also covers every blade of grass every game he plays. He doesn't have to have a “best position” his work ethic and understanding of the game is exemplary and I would rather have a team of players committed to the cause than some prima-donna flouncing about doing flicks and tricks and not giving a sh!t.
I do not understand why he gets so much hate for a young player doing a job that the manager asks him to do!

It was very disappointing to concede in the 80th minute but we faded physically after about 70 minutes which allowed Fulham to dominate the ball.
Given the fact that we were missing key players and the bench was vastly inexperienced, I suppose a point was acceptable in the circumstances.
They were miles better than spurs so a point was a good result. We should have beaten spurs which still grates on me 🤦

Very frustrating couple of games. Today the game was crying out for attacking subs to give us some much needed energy from about the 60th minute. No idea why Glasner waited so long, especially considering his post match comments. With the changes maybe we still wouldn't have held on but to not even try felt like a huge mistake and leaves you wondering what might have been. It was a bit like Royball for the last 30mins today.

But at least we've stopped the rot and hopefully Johnson signs and Glasner starts using subs earlier instead of keeping players on the pitch who can barely run anymore.

We were leading 1-0 at the 60 minute mark, accordingly Glasner might have concluded that in the circumstances he would rely on experience for as long as possible rather than turn to a very inexperienced bench.

Had the players not been shattered from the recent run of games then I'd agree. But in my view it was pointless keeping all 3 of Pino, Devenney and Mateta on for so long as they provided very little attacking threat and were too shattered to offer the defence much protection. Plus I wouldn't really say Pino and Devenney are that experienced in the prem. Just looked obvious to me and it resulted in us giving all the momentum to Fulham.

Fulham have a few tricks, but they also have a very soft centre and are easy to get at. We squandered a lot of good positions - just needed the second goal. A front three comprising a non-firing Pino, an injured Mateta and an admirable but limited Devenny is below the standard required, so we did well to boss the game like we did apart from 10min in the first haf and the last 20 when we were clearly knackered. I think the subs could have come on 10min earlier too, the front three looked a spent force by then. If that team had Johnson in it and the kid from Alkmaar, say, it would raise our level significantly, but we're running on empty a bit so I wouldn't expect too much from January - unless we get other players over the line early like we've done with Johnson.

Or you could say blind hope as opposed to a positive approach. Putting fresh legs on up front after 65/70 minutes ties their full backs down by giving them something fresh to worry about. It’s not really a risk.

In the grand scheme of things i take the draw , we needed to stop the rot , thought Devenny done well in a tough game , great to see Mateta score and off a cross from Clyne who would have believed it lol but Clyne done well ,
Deano great save but looked shaky at times ,
Max did have his dodgy moments , but as I said will take the point , was it as cold as it looked on tele ,

I would have thought this was a game where either Esse or Uche could have started. Devenny seems a nice lad, never gives up and I suspect follows instructions to the best of his ability. Sadly he's not quite good enough but useful for the fact he covers many positions. I've forgot the triggering of the permanent move for Uche and if that's a feature fine.
A shout out for Clyne. I thought he played well. No Munoz but streets ahead of Soso. Sadly we faded. It was clear to see. Never thought I'd be glad to see Kamada back.

If we sign Johnson and ever get our players fit, I don’t think Esse and Uche even make the bench.

Glasner only ever uses them as a last resort.
He’s been prepared to leave an out of form and supposedly injured Mateta on the field for complete games rather than use them.

I don’t see either Esse and Uche having a future at least under Glasner at Palace.

Hopefully by mid-February we’ll be back to a full-strength squad, and then the picture will look completely different. There are players in the team who need to take their opportunity now, otherwise they’ll find themselves back on the bench.

I’d still like to see Esse given an extended run in the side. His confidence is clearly low and he looks afraid to make a mistake, but he’s one of the few players willing to take defenders on in a one-v-one situation. By contrast, Pino and Devenny tend to move the ball on too quickly rather than committing a player or shooting

I applaud your optimism, but Pino is a poor Max Meyer. The latter was 'Hodgsoned' but would run rings round Pino
I missed the game last night but caught the last 10 mins .
Ed Aarons in the Guardian wrote that Pino was ‘ outstanding ‘
Was he watching another game to many on here ?
I’m not having a dig at that doubters ,but maybe we should cut him some slack .
I personaly think there’s a great player there ,it’s all a bit out of sync at the moment with the passing .

I reckon it will come good in time .

I think you are correct. Uche is there just to make up squad numbers, and Esse was brought in under a previous DOF who thought that the Palace template must have a player in the Zaha / Bolasie mold. Neither have a future under Glasner.
