Crystal Palace vs. Fulham match thread

Remember how much Silva whinged after we beat them at CC a few weeks ago, well, he's gone one better this time, he wants the 'HIA' protocol changed . . .

If his player hadn't tried to feign a head injury . . .

He never looks happy, always has a face as sour as a mulberry.
He certainly never appears a lighthouse of joy.
I totally understand the rationale behind the protocol as explained by Howard Webb.
Silva should focus on the actions of his player rather than on the protocol.

I keep reading in this thread that we will struggle until mid February. If you look at the closeness of points below us that will mean we will be around 4th or 5th from bottom at that time. With better management of subs and formation and team selections over the last month or so we might just not be in this position we are in at the moment. I’m still annoyed with Glasner on the team selection against KUPS which has given us two extra games. We deserved to lose yesterday with two missed chances by Fulham at the end. Earlier subs may have won that match for us? Let’s hope Glasner gets players in this window that he’s willing to play?
Or have thrown it away with another defeat!! Other teams, including Fulham look stronger once they start bringing on subs, anyone can see, as soon as our substitutions start, we look weaker and disjointed because of the severe lack of quality outside of our best eleven

Just consider the respective benches yesterday. Fulham were able to introduce experienced players, our bench was riddled with inexperience.

Seems like Devenny is the latest Palace player to get negative posts even if they are slightly less vitriolic than Daichi’s were! He’s young and improving every game despite being shuffled from position to position to fill in gaps. He’s a decent player and like Will Hughes he will be appreciated more as time goes on.

So should we just pretend every single player we have is good enough, regardless of how they play?

I thought Devenny was decent yesterday, certainly better than he has been of late, but he still looks completely lost in the final third - there is no creativity there at all.

To very politely suggest you don't think a player is of the required standard, on a football forum, seems a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

I'm sure you're not suggesting that every time we don't win it's because Glasner hasn't got it right - that would be ludicrously simplistic.
Was it does show is that Glasner doesn't walk on water and in fact is as mortal as the rest of us - without his core players to choose from he looks distinctly ordinary and strapped for ideas. But we'll see, those players will be back and a couple of additions to the fold should get things back up and running.

We all have our opinions about the merits and demerits of players and of course a smorgasbord of views and those not all met with universal approbation adds to the rich tapestry of football forums.

Sure, that's fair - although I think any manager would struggle to get a tune out of our current line-up - the squad is an absolute state, I think even more so than most realise.

For comparison, Fulham have Iwobi, Bassey and Chukwueze all at AFCON, as well as injuries to Rodrigo, Sessegnon and King. Despite that, they still manage to name a bench including the likes of Castagne, Cairney, Issa Diop, Harrison Reed, Adama Traore - you're talking 500-odd Prem appearances between those.

Our bench yesterday have about 20 Prem appearances between them.

Our current form is for me a combination of the weakness of the squad and not great game management by OG. I’ve always maintained playing so many of the first 11 so often in the Conference League was asking for trouble later on in the season and so it has proved. I feel for OG in that our squad lacks depth and we are missing two of our best players in Munoz and Sarr. Also Kamada who OG clearly sees as pivotal. However, the reluctance to adapt, use players like Uche earlier or tweak tactics has certainly not helped. So all in all I think the main issue is squad depth but the manager’s job is to make a positive difference with his management and OG has not done that in recent games. This doesn’t mean I want him gone or anything just shows some of his limitations.

I'm sorry...I have to disagree. Its all about our lack of squad depth, not OG. An earlier poster mentioned the strength of Fulham's bench compared with ours...its chalk and cheese. Up until just a few weeks ago we were riding high in the league, looking good and ruing the missed chances that could have meant we were doing even better. AFCON and injuries have weakened the first team significantly. You can't do much about tactics if you don't have the players.

We are 'In the same canoe' apropos the depth of our squad.
I happen to believe that Fulham's squad, when viewed in its entirety, is stronger than ours at this juncture.

Fulham player cheated by pretending he had been hit in the face to get the game stopped, referee followed the protocol therefore lesson should be learnt to Fulham and other teams that decide or are coached to play in this way

i was not looking forward to the game yesterday and when i saw an unchanged line up i feared the worst.

I did note that Fulham were also unchanged as they are lacking options, but as has been mentioned their bench was stronger in certain positions.

First 30 minutes were pretty poor and Fulham definitely looked the better team and were more comfortable on the ball.

The two no 10s, so pivotal to our system, are clearly not clicking at the moment and we really need Pino to step up as he clearly has the ability.

Other than the goal we rarely threatened other than the bizarre incident following the corner which hit the bar and then Lacroix headed it into Guehi.

You could see Fulham stepping it up and for about 10 minutes before they scored i was screaming for a sub as Mateta had gone by that point.

Fulham 100% deserved at least a draw and Canvot did his best to give them all 3 twice in injury time, although the first just bounced off his shin, the miskick was woeful - the lad's confidence appears to be shot. OG and the team need to sort that ASAP as he may need to start at Newcastle.

On the whole it was a tough watch and i'm happy with a point.

I know he has very few options but i would rest one or two for Newcastle in the hope we are fresher for Villa. I cannot see anything but a defeat at Newcastle, a place where we often struggle, as their 3 in midfield will overrun our 2 and the full backs will overload our wide areas. Happy to be proved wrong.

Yes. Did you see him yesterday? Effing cheat.

F**** him

So often it's feigned in order for the manager, as he did yesterday, to do online coaching mid-game.
