Crystal Palace vs. Fulham match thread

I missed the game last night but caught the last 10 mins .
Ed Aarons in the Guardian wrote that Pino was ‘ outstanding ‘
Was he watching another game to many on here ?
I’m not having a dig at that doubters ,but maybe we should cut him some slack .
I personaly think there’s a great player there ,it’s all a bit out of sync at the moment with the passing .

I reckon it will come good in time .
I hope you are right and he come good but right now he isn’t contributing or justifying his place. If we sign Johnson and Sarr comes back I don’t see him starting.

Whoever Ed Aarons is, he was clearly still pi55ed from the night before 🤣

But I agree with you, he looks lively and he’s chipped in with three goals and should’ve been more, but he seems to struggle with the physicality and intensity of the premier league, gets brushed off the ball and has his pocket picked too easily

In the end analysis we could easily have been on the end of another home defeat; Andersen's effort was difficult but that of Castagne really should have been the winner, and if the situation were reversed we would be cursing our poor finishing. In reality it was a fine save by Henderson, and maybe it will prove to be the turning point in our fortunes.

Perhaps copious quantities of 'Pino Colada'.

Pino does half of the job demanded by the role quite well.
He's diligent, keeps the shape, tracks back.
The other half of the role needs significant improvement.
His use of the ball is generally wasteful, he rarely threatens the opposition and sadly even his set pieces leave a lot to be desired.
He demonstrates some neat footwork, but doesn't have the pace or power to get away from defenders.
It's too early to write him off, but to date I've not been particularly impressed and I certainly wouldn't consider him a 'must start' for the team.

You could almost see the switch being pushed and we went from quite ok to tired and lijkely to concede.

Lacroix, Deano and Clyne all very good though

Selhurst station a pian after due to " trespasser on tracks at Balham " FFS

I’m thinking we’ve got a few more weeks of struggle before it gets better, tough league games coming up, maybe going into February when we’ve got some players back and hopefully a couple of signings, until then we’ve just got to battle through it……hopefully we’re not heading for a good hiding again up at Newcastle 🙏🏽

I am wholeheartedly in agreement with the assessment of Pino's performances at our club.

Yes, we've got to dig in, this is a make or break period for how the rest of the season pans out.

Clyne was terrific, Devenny had a good game. The defence looked uncertain and lacked a lot of confidence once Canvot came on, he settled and had a much better game than he did against the Arse but nowhere near his performance against the Weed.

There is definitely some talent there but it feels as though he wants to get ahead of the game somehow and, when he's not running down blind alleys, plays the ball for what should/could happen rather than the reality. Yesterday he tried to play Mateta in with a first time ball which on another day might have been brilliant but was just too quick for him. Mateta's fault for being caught on his heels or Pino's for not appreciating the situation?
Maybe Brennan Johnson's speed will be better suited to Pino's wavelength.

I keep reading in this thread that we will struggle until mid February. If you look at the closeness of points below us that will mean we will be around 4th or 5th from bottom at that time. With better management of subs and formation and team selections over the last month or so we might just not be in this position we are in at the moment. I’m still annoyed with Glasner on the team selection against KUPS which has given us two extra games. We deserved to lose yesterday with two missed chances by Fulham at the end. Earlier subs may have won that match for us? Let’s hope Glasner gets players in this window that he’s willing to play?

Glasner is clearly stubborn and fixated in his way of doing things, this is both a weakness and a strength. Yesterday the side were clearly flagging and substitutions looked a sensible option to add extra energy in holding Fulham at bay and offering a counter threat, but no, a very Hodgson approach to affairs which almost lost everything gained - poor resource management.

We were leading 1-0 at the 60 minute mark, accordingly Glasner might have concluded that in the circumstances he would rely on experience for as long as possible rather than turn to a very inexperienced bench.
I guess if he’d brought young subs on and we’d lost a goal he’d be criticised too, but to be honest it was only a matter of time before Fulham scored so for me he should have made the changes sooner. It’s not the first time he’s subbed once the opposition scored.

We wouldn’t be in this position if we had kicked the ball into an empty net v Strasbourg, Twice .
If we had buried the ton of chances v Lanarka .
If Mateta and scored with last kick v Bourmouth .
The Everton game .
With benefit of hindsight yeah OG got the line up v kups wrong .
He gets it right 9 times out of 10 .

I would have thought this was a game where either Esse or Uche could have started. Devenny seems a nice lad, never gives up and I suspect follows instructions to the best of his ability. Sadly he's not quite good enough but useful for the fact he covers many positions. I've forgot the triggering of the permanent move for Uche and if that's a feature fine.
A shout out for Clyne. I thought he played well. No Munoz but streets ahead of Soso. Sadly we faded. It was clear to see. Never thought I'd be glad to see Kamada back.
Seems like Devenny is the latest Palace player to get negative posts even if they are slightly less vitriolic than Daichi’s were! He’s young and improving every game despite being shuffled from position to position to fill in gaps. He’s a decent player and like Will Hughes he will be appreciated more as time goes on.

To my mind, Devenny is a valuable member of the squad, being able to contribute in different positions as the need arises. His versatility is important to us.

I agree with most of this, but I do feel Pino is particularly good in tight spaces in and around the penalty box. In the second half last night he was on the edge of the penalty area and did a 'no look' pass straight across the box...if Mateta had anticipated a goal could have been scored. But Mateta was back on his heels, not going forward, and the ball was picked up by Leno. Maybe we are not using him in the right way or he doesn't fit our system.

Or maybe Mateta is a plodder? Pino is of the Spanish school, crisp movement and passing, hence Arteta and Guardiola being top of the pile.
