Crystal Palace vs. Everton match thread

Yes, Guehi obviously a hugh loss, but on the positive side how well has Canvot has stepped up? Great signing and lots of improvement to come.

My main takeaway was we've got to work on our corners, attacking throw-ins (variation please) and free kicks before Leipzig!!
Yes Canvot has developed well. He still needs to work on decision making. Yesterday late on he lost the ball and they almost scored. However, his positional play has improved massively. I still think we lack on organiser at the back but overall that part of the squad isn’t going to be the summer priority, especially if we move to a back four.

Positive
- another assist for Mitchell. He's really upped his contributions in goal involvements in recent months.

Negative
- another goal conceded from a corner, again from a second ball
He's been bit of a unsung hero for sometime. Rarely injured, Tyrick is having an excellent season and frequently a top or close to top performers. At 26 you'd think he's in a prime period.

I thought it was a penalty at the time, but Murray was adamant it wasn't. Mind you, he probably doesn't want to upset the Brighton fans.

Overall, 2-2 was a fair reflection of the game. I really enjoyed it, much more than a lot of the PL football I've seen this season. Two teams giving it a good go.
Actually it WAS a decent game of football, surprisingly so under the circumstances. We fought back from behind twice, which was a bonus, because many a palace team of the past at selhurst the game would’ve petered out into a lame defeat.
34 total shots with 14 on target from both sides says it all

It is vital that Tyrick Mitchell is available for the Final.
It is feasible that he will be rested for our remaining PL games.
Perhaps the same scenario will unfold in respect of Daniel Munoz.

Criminal how he’s not in the England squad, especially as we’re not exactly strong in that position when Shaws not fit

I was at the game but didnt get a good view of the foul on Strand Larsen in the box. I couldn’t find it on either bbc’s or Sky’s highlight reel but then found it on Palace TV’s Full 90 replay at just after 38 minutes. Would recommend viewing it if haven’t yet seen it. Absolutely scandalous that this wasn’t given. And did someone say that Glen Murray said it wasn’t a penalty? If that’s true he’s just embarrassing himself now. Troll!

I have not seen any 'Footage' of the incident, however the referee did not deem it worthy of a penalty, VAR did not intervene and Glenn Murray who would have been involved in a similar instance in his long career believed the decision not to award a penalty was correct.

It was up the other end to us, so I’d be interested to see it again, as for Glen Murray, i know he was our hero for a time, but he’s not exactly the best of pundit/co-commentator out there

Thanks Willo, I know all of this. By implication I guess you are satisfied with the outcome. It’s not a biggie but I can’t help but feel a sense of injustice, especially after the Senesi penalty last week.

We can show horn in a right back into the left back slot. One that can't defend at all so he can pretend to attack and lose the ball all the time, or do the worst cross ever. It's the England way. No way would we want an actual left back - are you crazy?

Doesn't make it right , the first 2 failed in there job , and would guarantee if any of the top teams was involved they would have given it in a heart beat , and as for Murray he really needs to change jobs because not first time he has got it wrong

A fair result and a good one considering our fixture pile up.
Nothing wrong with the ref. despite the obligatory moans on here.
We lack enterprise going forward, all our passing was predictable. We rely heavily on Wharton but he didn't have one of his better games. Pino for Johnson would have helped.
Disappointing we were unhinged by several long balls down the middle, one of which we conceded to. And to concede at the back post to a corner was unforgiveable.

Man of the match for me wasn't Sarr (although he took his goal well). It was Tyrick Mitchell.
Unfortunately I doubt if the watching Tuchel will take him to the States.

West Ham now can't catch us so see what we can do against City (Munoz will have to play better to keep Kudus under control)
a good summary and the performance sort of typified our season.

Despite 3 CBs we looked vulnerable at the back - Everton played well for the 1st 60 minutes but the 2 goals were so weak. Everton are a tall team and strong at set pieces but the one we conceded was so poor, but also predictable.
The 2nd was also poor. Lacroix has been a great signing but he was slow to react to a basic long ball, he then recovered well only to allow the forward to nip the ball away from him. Really poor defending.
Canvot looks great one minute and terrible the next (he's young so understandable, but it doesn't help my blood pressure).

Going forward we looked slow and predictable at times - Richards always takes the simple pass and Canvot is uncomfortable on his left foot. This allows team to get players back and reset.

However, having said that we did create chances and grew into the game. Both Sarr and Mateta are very important players for us, took their goals well and then both missed easier chances. We definitely finished the stronger side - as we did home v Newcastle and West Ham, both also after European games.

Johnson still flatters to deceive and seems to hides when Mitch goes forward and Larsen can't hold onto the ball, especially against a physical defender.

It would have been a soft pen, but Garner may no attempt to get the ball and shoved Larsen with both hands. Stupid and clumsy.

Glasner never deemed that a penalty should have been awarded :

Crystal Palace had a penalty shout in the first half when Jorgen Strand Larsen went down under a challenge from James Garner, but Glasner admitted he thought referee Tom Bramall was right not to give it.

“I watched it back, and to be honest, it shouldn’t be a penalty. In the Premier League, no."

So, too, has his carrying the ball out of defence and even driving forward at times. This is in the same vein as Marc, too.

What should be appreciated is the (incredible) fact that he has played less than 50 senior games and won't be twenty yo until July.

This lad can go right to the top in my opinion.

He's left footed isn't he? I don't agree with you here.
