Crystal Palace vs. Everton match thread

A fair result and a good one considering our fixture pile up.
Nothing wrong with the ref. despite the obligatory moans on here.
We lack enterprise going forward, all our passing was predictable. We rely heavily on Wharton but he didn't have one of his better games. Pino for Johnson would have helped.
Disappointing we were unhinged by several long balls down the middle, one of which we conceded to. And to concede at the back post to a corner was unforgiveable.

Man of the match for me wasn't Sarr (although he took his goal well). It was Tyrick Mitchell.
Unfortunately I doubt if the watching Tuchel will take him to the States.

West Ham now can't catch us so see what we can do against City (Munoz will have to play better to keep Kudus under control)

I know he had a tantrum earlier in the season but the board need to do all they can to keep JPM in the summer. I know I know… he is a bit of a turn coat but he is much much better than anybody else we have. Give him what he wants it will be cheaper than spanking another £100 million on the likes of Eddie, Johnson and Larsen
I'd agree, it's a shame he didn't take that second chance but his physicality got him in the position in the first place: Larsen would not have given himself the opportunity
I think the only chance of keeping him is if he makes the WC squad (they announce this week); we get into the Europa: a top club does not come in for him due to his knee issue and/or his age. I guess he has turned down equivalent money to run down his contract, but it must pain him to have the likes of Edouard, Larsen, Nketiah and ,especially, Johnson earning roughly double his wage

I think you are right. Tuchel came to a lot of games early in the season and didn't pick him even when Hall was injured and O'Reilly was not playing at the back. I think he is better defensively than either of them and that is what is required as soon as England come up against a good right-winger - and there are a fair few around
Wharton didn't do himself any favours either: his shooting was better than his passing

I though Canvot played pretty well again today - certainly better than Richards or LaCroix. He does seem comfortable coming upfield and I just wonder whether he ought to be tried out in midfield. Next season we are likely to be playing 4-3-3, with only Wharton, if he stays, good enough in the middle. He's is too good to be backup to Richards and LaCroix

It was very much how i saw the game. Mitchell played very well both defensively and offensively. Thought Canvot had a lot of the ball but played very simple passes which slowed our play down. Was hoping Riad might come on as i think he uses the ball better though he is not as physically strong as Canvot. In the end it was a game of a lot of chances though both teams could have done better at the goals that were let in.

Refs job was made easy by 2 teams who got on with the game in good spirit , but he missed our pen Larsen was pushed that hard he air shot , pen all day long if you push a player's back its a foul so pushing a player off the ball on his chest is as well , not a chance munoz will play weds a long with half the team

Positive
- another assist for Mitchell. He's really upped his contributions in goal involvements in recent months.

Negative
- another goal conceded from a corner, again from a second ball

Lacroix has played in 54 games this season.
Last season he played in 44 games.
In his last 2 full seasons in Germany he played in 26 and 31 games.
He and Richards are fatigued but the defence hasn’t been that good since Guehi departed. Not really a surprise. Any defence would be less effective if you take out a world class centre half and the best positional player in the team

Yes, Guehi obviously a hugh loss, but on the positive side how well has Canvot has stepped up? Great signing and lots of improvement to come.

My main takeaway was we've got to work on our corners, attacking throw-ins (variation please) and free kicks before Leipzig!!

You'd think it was a stick on penalty but, weekly refrain, wait until Dermot Gallagher gives his opinion.
Fleeting contact...DOGSO... direction of the ball...blah blah blah.

Indeed this is a 'Positive' and may he continue on his upward trajectory.
Inexperienced players need games to gain experience of course and it was not envisaged that he would be a regular so soon.
Jolly well done to the lad.

I thought it was a penalty at the time, but Murray was adamant it wasn't. Mind you, he probably doesn't want to upset the Brighton fans.

Overall, 2-2 was a fair reflection of the game. I really enjoyed it, much more than a lot of the PL football I've seen this season. Two teams giving it a good go.

A player can push another player over with 2 hands as he is about to shoot, but you cant have an arm up when jumping, so the Arsenal keeper can run into it, when attempting to catch the ball.
Pushing players over is happening in every game now and nothing gets penalised, claiming only light contact.

Fair comment, however I was disappointed by the manner in which we conceded the two goals.
