Crystal Palace vs. Everton match thread

I was at the game but didnt get a good view of the foul on Strand Larsen in the box. I couldn’t find it on either bbc’s or Sky’s highlight reel but then found it on Palace TV’s Full 90 replay at just after 38 minutes. Would recommend viewing it if haven’t yet seen it. Absolutely scandalous that this wasn’t given. And did someone say that Glen Murray said it wasn’t a penalty? If that’s true he’s just embarrassing himself now. Troll!
didn't think that one was a pen, no way a big fella like JSL could be thrown to the ground that easily. The later on penalty appeal looked more like one to me albeit it was up the other end. I thought it was given but the ref was signalling for a GK. That wasn't included on the BBC highlights either

We can show horn in a right back into the left back slot. One that can't defend at all so he can pretend to attack and lose the ball all the time, or do the worst cross ever. It's the England way. No way would we want an actual left back - are you crazy?
When you think of the class we’ve had at left back over the years, Sansom, Pearce, Cole, we really do struggle in that position now, which makes it all the more unfathomable that Herman the German doesn’t pick TM 🤨

a good summary and the performance sort of typified our season.

Despite 3 CBs we looked vulnerable at the back - Everton played well for the 1st 60 minutes but the 2 goals were so weak. Everton are a tall team and strong at set pieces but the one we conceded was so poor, but also predictable.
The 2nd was also poor. Lacroix has been a great signing but he was slow to react to a basic long ball, he then recovered well only to allow the forward to nip the ball away from him. Really poor defending.
Canvot looks great one minute and terrible the next (he's young so understandable, but it doesn't help my blood pressure).

Going forward we looked slow and predictable at times - Richards always takes the simple pass and Canvot is uncomfortable on his left foot. This allows team to get players back and reset.

However, having said that we did create chances and grew into the game. Both Sarr and Mateta are very important players for us, took their goals well and then both missed easier chances. We definitely finished the stronger side - as we did home v Newcastle and West Ham, both also after European games.

Johnson still flatters to deceive and seems to hides when Mitch goes forward and Larsen can't hold onto the ball, especially against a physical defender.
Tosspots behind me in Whitehorse slagging off Brennan’s every touch. Screaming at our players not to pass the ball to him etc. Obviously HR types in charge of morale at their respective workplaces ! Johnson obviously lacking in confidence but OG plays him regularly so must be seeing something.
When he played for Notts Forest I always thought ‘I’d have him in my team’. Hopefully he’ll come good but needs our supporters to get behind him. Sadly, with Kamada leaving a space seems to have been created for another hate figure in our team.

Some of the comments are perhaps a bit over the top if that is what you have experienced, however you either play well and cope with playing at a new club or you don’t. He has been very poor despite numerous chances in different positions and it’s difficult to see where his strengths lie. It’s not like Pino where you can easily see what he brings and what his weaknesses are.

I’d love to be able to applaud Johnson on his performance but I’m yet to see one that warrants it.

How long do you give an underperforming player before you decide to pull the plug?

He's left footed isn't he? I don't agree with you here.
Canvot is definitely naturally right footed and you can see it within seconds of watching him.

Not unlike Guehi, he's adapting well to a position that it not his natural one, but he's more comfortable when the ball is on his right.

I'm wondering if I'm blind, mate.

To my eyes he's def a leftie.

That's why originally playing him at right back was not working.

He plays right back for France under 20’s.

Maybe we should look up where in Toulouse’s back three he played before he came to Palace (they played similar formation to us).

Transfermarkt shows him as right footed but it's encouraging that he's comfortable on his left. He's also listed as a defensive midfielder as well as CB.

Ok, it seems I'm just wrong. I'm flummoxed because when he was playing in the right of defence, he seemed to prefer get the ball to his left foot. When I saw he was switched to the left side of the back three, it seemed to confirm this.

Shows how much I know.
