Crystal Palace v Everton Match Thread

Hendo made a couple of excellent saves, but did he commit too early for Everton’s first goal?
I thought the opposite. I think he could have been quicker to be out and smother the ball. To be fair though he and Munoz were put in an impossible position so not their fault.

We like Glasner but he’s starting to show a misplaced loyalty to Kamada purely because he was one of his personal recommended signings. Let it go Glasner..let it go. We all make mistakes.
Kamada came on when we're were 2-1 down already? 🤷🏻‍♂️ How did he contribute to us loosing?

A game thrown away by a ridiculous mistake and yet another error by an official.

What can you say?

We looked very good in the first half and deserved at least a point.

Sometimes you do walk away from the ground thinking how the fook did we manage to lose that one? I know it’s a thing at selhurst, but we could’ve been home and dry at half time
I’ve got to say though Alcaraz and Beto were very good, a million miles Everton’s best players. Marc Guehi had a real battle with Beto

I used to regret buying away tickets after a Selhurst defeat, but not at the moment with our away form being so much better than our home, so bring on Fulham, Sod Selhurst 🤣

For me it was another home game where, for whatever reason, the minimal effort was applied by the players and shoulders were shrugged when it ends with another defeat.

That’s the infuriating part. Can forgive being outclassed but when it looks as though we’ve lost through our own lack of commitment, to an inferior side, it’s hard to just accept that.

I’ve got to be honest mate, for all that went wrong today, I can’t see that effort was an issue today, Guehi had a real scrap with Beto, Richards as well was throwing himself into tackles and getting his head on the ball. Hughes was scrapping away as usual and had blood running down his leg. Their commitment was one thing I couldn’t fault

All those things I would put under the category of ‘the least I expect’ BM, hence ‘minimal effort’.

To clarify my point, I thought crossing, final balls, shooting (there were some pathetic attempts today), general passing etc. was all let down where you know the quality is there, but the intensity of concentration and effort was lacking, so not much came off.

People often talk about ‘willing the ball in’ or ‘throwing everything at it’ etc. and today looked as though the bare minimum effort was applied, and when it didn’t come off shoulders were shrugged a bit like ‘oh well, we tried’.

We all love the players who play with their hearts on their sleeves and give it everything but Hughes is the only one I can think of today.

That’s what I mean by ‘the bare minimum’. I didn’t once get the feeling the team were really pushing themselves out of their comfort zone in an effort to get a result or the desire to do anything beyond hoping ‘something comes off’ was there. That’s was the impression I was left with anyway.

I genuinely think they were trying... I do think we have some contradictions in the squad and just because people come back doesnt instantly solve problems...

At least to me Nketiah seems to be a striker who would do well as the fast little one in a big fella - small fella forward two... but we don't play that way....

Mitchell and Munoz were both often the most forward two in the first half today, but everything went through the right hand side. Chilwell added balance in second half but we need long term solutions.

I'm convinced Wharton is fit but he spent a lot of the second half waving his hands about as didn't have quick passing options... he also carried the ball forwards himself a lot... that's not his game.

Defensiveness is still a strength (mishaps aside).

Need to work on how we score.... is it through crosses to a no. 9 and others in the box or is it pulling defences around. TBH I think this is where we miss Olise... if you have 2 creative players in the team defences seem to get overwhelmed, if it's just 1 then I think defences cope much better

Surely one of the coaches needs to see in training if Mitchell can actually cross a ball near a targets head or foot or as we suspect has no touch or feel for the ball and just blindly puts his foot through it. That I suspect my friends is one of our problems. Sure, he’ll luck out and find someone sometimes but does he have a ‘real time’ appreciation for the danger areas in a fluid game and feel his strikers runs? Absolutely not. Watch him when he crosses..he rarely glances up and just swings a leg with his fingers crossed.

I like him as a pure defender but he shouldn’t be let loose anywhere near an attacking position.

That throw in he did leading to their goal was just a chaos moment which we’ve all had so I don’t actually blame him for that.
We moan a lot about Mitchells lack of forward play but equally Munoz screws so much up with his final pass and finishing that I feel we should be looking just as much at his play. I thought most of the team underperformed today and that Lerma who was one of our better players was pulled so that Wharton could come on? Substitutions were a little late in my opinion as well and as for Kamada it beggars believe that he gets to come on. Practically every pass was poor from him, either a simple non effective pass backwards or a terrible pass forward. Everton would have lost to most premiership sides and we were just very poor throughout our team :-(

Just watched the re-run of the game, too late a kick-off for me to watch live where I live. We were undone by poor finishing, greed in front of goal, and incompetent/dodgy officials. Chilwell is a definite upgrade on Tyrick who had an excellent breakthrough season then got injured and has never been the same since and doesn't look like he'll ever regain his early promise. Eze was decent when he came on and Wharton is going to need more game time before he's back to his old self.

We are 12th, it's where we were at this stage of the season under PV and for the most part under Roy. It's our average. Despite OG offering a slightly different playing system we haven't really progressed. Steve Parish in the recent interview stressed the importance of remaining in the EPL, i get the impression he's content with a 12th place finish.
I like what OG is trying to do although his allegiance to the woeful Kamada is starting to grate. If Kamada had any redeeming quality it should have been evident by now, but overall there's been nothing to write home about.
Cracking the home form nut is where we'll see an improvement, however the home form was just as erratic under previous managers. We have a problem with teams that sit deep yet have some counterattacking ability, it's something for OG to think about, winning consistently at home is the only way to see an improvement in our final position.
Forever 12th. We should be grateful - who said that?
