Crystal Palace v Aston Villa Match Thread

Just back in.
By the end most of the Villa had cleared off!
Hope Wharton is OK. He took a hell of a thump that made us take him off, but he seemed ok.
What a very pleasant surprise. Kamada, Mitchell, Nketia.....4-1.
Well done boys, you did us proud.
If we keep going like this, who knows where we will end up.
We are starting to play some really good football.
JPM and Sarr. Unstoppable.

Another great performance after a difficult start.

What a pity we were so ill prepared for the start of the season.

I have to say that funniest part of the game was the half time stand off between Pete the Eagle and Robin Olsen (surely any experienced pro knows not to piss off the mascots!)

And then, having 'won' the half time battle he had to start the second half in front of the Holmesdale End. Classic.

Boooo!

Compared to the Everton game when the marginal decisions went their way we were on the right side of 2 crucial ones - Richards been possibly off side for our first goal and then the offside for Villa's potential equaliser. It just makes a big difference to us is we play on the break or have to chase a game.
I also thought we did well not to get undone when Villa matched our formation rather than playing their 4 at the back at the start of the game when they had the better of the early play.
Having said that once we got in front we did not sit back and Munoz and Mitchell were still popping up in their 18 yard box. I think this is very positive going forward and showing the confidence that goes with the good run we are on.
Second haul of 20 points with Glasner being my assistant manager in the fantasy premier league
🙂

Great team performance….which undoubtedly will alert other clubs to both the excellent players and manager we have. I just prey that Parish sits down soon and ensures long term contracts are in place. We really can’t afford to lose too many of them (especially Glasner!).

Still grinning this morning.

Villa are a good side with a good manager, we look safe from relegation now, a Tuesday night and we’d only won two home games before that, so I wasn’t overly optimistic.

He didn’t have too much to do but I’d still like to give Mitchell credit when it’s due, had a great game. Thought we lost a few to many individual battles in midfield and their goal was soft to concede but outside of that we were fantastic.

Wharton looked the proverbial Rolls Royce, Munoz was everywhere, Sarr was magnificent yesterday and Mateta took his goal supremely as a few other shoutouts.

Delighted that Eddie got a goal too, that can’t hurt his confidence. Onwards and upwards, COYP!!!!!

Then why say it, are you just trying to antagonise other Palace fans?
No. You’re looking for a beef here when there isn’t one.

I was just pointing out that our three most criticised players (sometimes with fair reason) combined for the goal, but joking that it wouldn’t be popular, when of course it would.

It was notable and excellent news for all involved with the club because if those three players (who all appear to lack confidence) all come good it increases their value (in all senses) exponentially.

My advice is to let it go and try not to let yourself feel antagonised over something so trivial. Eagles.

For spells in the second half yesterday it was reminiscent of our form at the end of the last season and the catalyst for this change is clearly Wharton.

In his absence we were on occasions winning the ball high up the field, but then conceding possession through sloppy or inaccurate passing leaving us vulnerable on the break.

When Wharton is involved he makes that winning of the ball more effective either through retaining possession or by hitting penetrating passes which turns that possession into chance creation.

He really can transform aspects of our game.

That was a tough encounter last night with both sides using the counter and we took our chances when they came. The whole team put in a shift and you can see a real togetherness with the players, great to see Eddie get his goal in front of the Holmesdale, you can see he has got that pace to be in the right place at the right time.

Excellent performance from everyone and very pleased for Eddie Nketia in breaking his duck. What a smart manager Ollie is, he had us well set up and with a squad of fit players at his disposal now a top 10 finish is looking very possible.
