Crystal Palace v Aston Villa Match Thread

Villa are a decent side, so that was an excellent and deserved win.
We got some key decisions at key moments, but created more than enough opportunities to win.

People will rightly wax lyrical about Wharton and Sarr, but I'd also like to commend the unsung players in Richards and Mitchell who had possibly their best games of the season - aside from Mitchell's miss ( but we'll forgive him that tonight)!

What a difference having Wharton back in the starting line up made!

And I have to admit, despite moaning at the prospect of Kamada coming on, that I thought he played very well. Great to see Nketiah score. Every Palace player was excellent tonight.

The commentary team irritated me discussing 'what went wrong for Villa'; although we rode our luck at times the obvious answer seemed to be 'Palace' which they didn't mention at all. Nine goals shipped in their last two visits to Selhurst; they must be starting to hate the place!

He did get an assist though 😉

This! Richards was excellent and the most pleasant surprise for me. Mitchell also very good.

I'd add LaCroix too. It was good to see him geeing the crowd up at the end.

I was concerned when they equalised. We had missed a couple of good chances and they had two goals ruled out for offside, one very marginal. It was even at best up to then and they seemed to have the momentum. The big difference was, I think, the change of keeper. The defence had no confidence in him and looked shaky all through the second half.

Nevertheless a good performance from us, even if the result was perhaps a little flattering. Bags of energy and commitment with no shortage of skill either. Villa are a good side and we are looking every bit as good.

Did you see Emery’s reaction at the end? He barely acknowledged Glasner and looked as though he was about to confront the referee.
