Three games, semi is two-legs I believe?

Which I think makes it a lot harder to win. Also means an extra game on top of extra games. I got a ticket to the quarter final but would hope to see some rotation for it as well as the two conference league games.

Imagine we get into the semis but finish outside the top 8 in the conference league.

That's 4 extra games 🥴

so your saying the same players that was passing well to each other previous games are no good sell them drop them , what , sorry that the team is so poor and we are only 5th in the lge in 1/4s of the cup and in Europe , take it thats not the level you what oh dear , and if we raised our game 20% we would have won very easily ,
I didn't say any of that. The team played badly. It wasn't a good performance but we won. Can Lerma pass well, for example? He has other strengths. Obviously not shooting either. I'm saying we need to look at the result realistically. We were poor for at least half of the game. Very poor perhaps - which is becoming a bit of a thing in recent matches. I presume it's fatigue.

I'm going to be honest and say that the win is hiding a lot of our problems. We are gifting chances to the opposition for a start. We seem unable to pass accurately - and we have some players who just can't pass. It was no accident the assist was by Guehi. A central defender.
We are being overwhelmed in the midfield two - everyone has cottoned on to that. Why wouldn't they? We do it every game. If Burnley had more pace and a bit more quality then they could have beaten us quite comprehensively. We weren't in the game for most of the second half. That was obviously fatigue.
Our set pieces, attacking and defending, now seem poor. What's happened there? Lack of training time between games perhaps?
Fulham are relatively poor this season - let's see what happens there. They are superior to Burnley - who look like potential relegation candidates.
How on earth are we 5th in the Premier, QFs of League cup, in Europe, if we can't pass and overwhelmed in midfield by everyone? Baffling.

He's made a point of saying he tries to win every game. We won't see much rotation unfortunately.
Oli has said that but very quickly he needs to manage minutes surely? No chance we beat Arsenal away if Arteta wants to play his first team (I think he will if they have a healthy lead in prem). Carabao Cup is just a distraction but we won't be going any further anyway there.
Priority now is to beat Shelbourne and Kups, then hope it makes us top 8 and no play off required.

Not playing well and still grinding out results I suppose is the mark of a good team. Hopefully we’ll get a second wind soon with Europe out the way until at least the end of feb(assuming we get through of course) and a couple of early signings in January

I agree, priority is now winning those Conference matches. However, personally I’m not now enjoying my Palace football. The fatigue of our players makes un entertaining football to watch. I think we all knew this was coming, especially with Glasner keeping to such a small squad and not playing some on the fringe players. We are in danger of crashing out of the cups and moving down the league table. It’s not fun to watch at the moment and I’m not sure when it will be again :-( We did win the FA cup and Charity (Community) Shield and what an achievement that was 🙂

Given the circumstances I think we're doing ok. Granted this is a new situation for the club, competing on various fronts, and one can hope that lessons have been learnt. OG was absolutely correct when he stated that this being a historical season for the club we should invest not save; to think that Parish was on the verge of selling MG for a paltry sum and bring in some cheapo chump as a replacement says to me that he doesn't know so much about the playing side of the game.

Maybe the plan is see if we make top 8 in Conference before deciding we do actually have the ability to support Oli in the January transfer window.
I am more than happy to see us win like we did last night- could have played like Chelsea did and lose! We are Palace we will never dominate games. Solid defence and a well coached squad is what will be the reasons for any success this season.
That said, can we just give JP a week off 😀

Back at the start of the year, most of us could only dream of where we’re at come December. It’s a struggle at the moment, but at least we’ve got a decent amount of points on the board which will take the pressure off a bit while we battle through it

Agreed, but the Problem is Uche, Esse, Sosa, Canvot and Pino cost 72m and if you add Nketiah thats over 100m players and only one is a regular, all sanctioned by Glasner. therein lies the problem of managing minutes.

All in all it was a very difficult watch. I cant remember ever having a backs to the wall ending under Glasner. Finishing the game with 4 CBs!

The thing that I found most strange is that we constantly tried to play the hard pass, when there were often easy options on.

But even stranger, is that Glasner didnt seam to be fuming.

Its almost as though we were happy to lose it as they dint pose a lot of threat.

yup. The Carabou can take a flying fv.ck
Just as well given who we've drawn next.

That said, a day out at Wembley, an open top bus through South Norwood in the spring, and more bling for the cabinet.

Also, while it opens no doors to Europe, people (not just Geordies) are still talking about last year's winners. It does terrific work for the brand at home and overseas. And boosting non-TV commercial revenue pays for all those ground improvements and expensive players we all crave.

If fans look back on this season and we have finished outside qualification for Europe through the league, Conference or "proper" cup but we win the Caribou, it will be retrospectively viewed as a good season and part of our "golden era".

Again not what I said. But if you want to believe that I did and have a pop go ahead. The idea of a message board - believe it or not - is to give opinions. Lerma is a good passer of the ball is he? For instance.
How are our passing stats? - even Wharton's are down on others vying for England places. Mainly because he tries the hard ones.

Getting value, or just some use, out of the players you list is an interesting issue. Glasner hasn’t really used most of them, especially not Uche and Esse.

I was listening to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reflecting on what he would do differently if he had his time again at Man U. Interestingly, he said that he would be more selfish in his team selections when under pressure, as in, he would pick the side in his own interests rather than the clubs.

He explained that he generally picked the team with one eye on the game in question but another on the bigger picture. Stuff like: Who hasn't been playing lately and needs a run of games to keep them sharp, feeling involved, or just a saleable asset? Who isn’t in my best 11 now but might be in two years’ time? How can I make a bit of space for them so they can develop? Who is playing well but being a bit of a prick and needs knocking down a peg or two? What games can I give to the average players I don’t really rate but will no doubt need at some point? All that sort of stuff.

In other words, he felt the risk of losing any particular game was worth it for the overall benefits to the club. I'm sure his approach was probably influenced by how Fergie worked.

I'm not sure many managers think like that these days, they don't have the job security to do it. Glasner certainly doesn't work like that. Should he? Is that a fair expectation? Would he not risk the sack if we lost a few? Moreover, like most smaller clubs doing well at the top, a lot of our success is based on being well-drilled and highly familiar with one another. Would we have, for instance, the same solid defensive unit if Canvot (who I think looks promising) was rotated in and out more, so that the other three got a bit of a rest? Or would they suffer the odd mix up in the heat of battle? Would, for instance, Pino develop more if he was in and out of the team? Wharton, Eze, Olise, Geuhi etc all came to Palace because that wouldn't happen - they would play through dips ands peaks in form and not be rotated. It hasn't done them much harm.

I can understand why Glasner picks his strongest team, works on them in training, then sticks with them in games. His job is to get results, which he has excelled at. If he thinks a slightly jaded but well-drilled, strongest XI, with an established on-field understanding is a better bet than a changing, less-familiar, weaker, but fresher XI, then I find it difficult to argue with him.
