Burnley thread

Yeah, I don’t think we can fault our wing backs this year. They are tiring but Mitchell has been just as excellent defensively as last year and Munoz has offered just as much going forward.

I’m not sure I would exactly describe fifth as flattering us. We’ve still only actually been outplayed by Arsenal and then only to lost by a single goal.

I’m no less convinced by the quality of our, cup and shield winning, strongest XI (well, ten of them and Pino has potential) when fit, but our finishing, fitness and (lack of) depth are clear and huge issues given the fixtures we have.

Aside from taking a cracking penalty, I just don't think he's very good. I've seen nothing to suggest he's premiership material. Like you say, he feels like a reliable Championship level player. Unless I'm missing something?
Agree, he’s average at best with no defining feature to his game. I don’t like to criticise any Palace player but he’s had quite a few games now and brings very little to the table. He can do a job in CM if we’re desperate, but would much rather see Esse, who can bring some creativity in the attacking positions.

I think he needs to go to the Championship for a regular run out but I can’t imagine he’ll ever come back.

I note he’s been playing LWB for Northern Ireland. Perhaps his role could be back up to Mitchell, but is he any better than Sosa?

Obviously not one for the purists, but grinding a win out on a cold December night in Burnley should not be underestimated.

Very little quality play from either team. The one moment when we actually executed something brought the reward of a goal. Otherwise our forward play was generally sloppy. A little more care in passing in the final third was required. I thought Pino and Kamada were especially guilty in that respect.

A welcome win all things considered. The schedule is now exposing some players whilst others are showing true warrior spirit. I expect a bit more creativity from the midfield and the forward line looked to be feeding on scraps, but we did get players forward, hence the goal.
Despite the additional workload we seem to be doing better than previous seasons, so far so good!

it was ugly not pretty but sometimes you have to win that way , wharton was well off the pace thats not tiredness thats just a bad game , as said pitch seemed slow so no matter what it will make it look like players are tired , no zip off the grass balls running slow ,
good to see Mateta get his shots on target , the way co-commentator was speaking you would think he had options to place it no there was defenders and our own players in the way ,
this is our biggest break in games almost 4 days before we play again , so against fulham expect tobe more alive and we are not traveling far , we deserve to be 5th we should be higher but I take it , 4 more wins from 24 games and were safe . COYP

I'm going to be honest and say that the win is hiding a lot of our problems. We are gifting chances to the opposition for a start. We seem unable to pass accurately - and we have some players who just can't pass. It was no accident the assist was by Guehi. A central defender.
We are being overwhelmed in the midfield two - everyone has cottoned on to that. Why wouldn't they? We do it every game. If Burnley had more pace and a bit more quality then they could have beaten us quite comprehensively. We weren't in the game for most of the second half. That was obviously fatigue.
Our set pieces, attacking and defending, now seem poor. What's happened there? Lack of training time between games perhaps?
Fulham are relatively poor this season - let's see what happens there. They are superior to Burnley - who look like potential relegation candidates.

so your saying the same players that was passing well to each other previous games are no good sell them drop them , what , sorry that the team is so poor and we are only 5th in the lge in 1/4s of the cup and in Europe , take it thats not the level you what oh dear , and if we raised our game 20% we would have won very easily ,

I just miss the flair quality we've always had in the side via the likes of Wilf, Olise and Eze.

Need another of these types to appear.
see that what happens when you get spoiled you always want more😀 , we have been lucky to have them 3 , I miss the DON but im happy

I think there's a lot of truth in this.
Fortunately we have the solid foundation of a great back 3 which is part of one the best defences in the league.
Nonetheless, a better team than Burnley would have punished us yesterday and the drop off in performance levels in the last 20 minutes was again noticeable.
I don't know if there's a solution to the drop off because of the intense schedule leading to jaded players.
The good thing is that we still found a way to win.

Whilst I agree with much of this, I think Justin gets mins because he's got a good engine and follows manager instructions to the letter.

He is very good out of possession (I was very good out of possession in my day, but that only really meant I was a crap footballer. Means different things now).

This is critical to Glasner's system and ethos and is why he also likes players like Kamada so much. Only injuries will change the current squad and subs.

I think this is right.
I wonder what would happen if Glasner had better attacking options on the bench.
My feeling is that he would be more likely to use them so we didn’t end up with Munoz and Devenny forming 2 of the front 3.

He never starts and most of his appearances are for a few minutes to see the game out ,though he did get about half an hour last night .
He is probably instructed to not do anything silly , run the ball down dead ends and suchlike .

It looks like OG trusts him in that role but I think there is more about him than just being a spoiler

Predictably dismal game which we scraped.

Not looking forward to the next few weeks. It's going to be difficult.

We are in the quarter finals.
Beat arsenal and we are 2 games from winning it, no way Glasner will play a weakened team.
Three games, semi is two-legs I believe?

Which I think makes it a lot harder to win. Also means an extra game on top of extra games. I got a ticket to the quarter final but would hope to see some rotation for it as well as the two conference league games.
