I think we all ought to be a little philosophical about this. Obviously it's rubbish losing such a good player and one who is so likeable, however:

- A few years ago we rejected a £70m+ bid for Zaha from Everton. At the time I was delighted because he was our only dangerous player. However, a couple of years later he left on a free. We were terrified at the time that he was the only reason we were staying up but considering the players we've bought and how we've evolved since he left, perhaps we should have had faith in ourselves to reinvest that money. Same for Olise really, that felt like the end of the world too.
- Our recruitment record is exceptional. Obviously there's always misses but there's been far more hits. I have complete faith that we will replace him well and I think the recruitment team have earned that trust.

In an ideal world he'd stay, we'd build the squad up more and try to aim higher but we don't have that kind of money. Let him go, challenge for trophies and let's see who ends up becoming the next indispensable player that we don't want to lose.

Or persuade our shareholders to lash the cash. Let's be straight here. Football today is ALL about money. We keep finding and selling superstars. This could change if our owners changed their tune.

We also need to change player attitudes from seeing us as a stepping stone to greater things although I accept that the two go hand in hand.

Yes, that's the dream. We have to somehow avoid going the same way as Southampton who've sold some top players over the years, often for big fees, and ended up falling apart.

If we can get away with funding our squad rebuild each year from tv money and the sale of one star player (next season I think it will be Wharton or Lacroix), then hopefully the squad will gradually build in strength and we might start getting some of our academy players into the side.

The Eze money will take a lot of pressure off the team to sell Guehi at a cut price. I’m not saying we won’t sell him, but will be at our price, not Liverpool’s low bid. He probably will still go, as Liverpool won’t want Real Madrid to swoop in January and lock him up ahead of them being able to.

Historically we have limited outgoing transfers to a max of one key player in any transfer window which was absolutely the right thing to do, no one wants to see the heart ripped out of the team, especially since we are in our most successful period to date, clearly the possibility of losing Eze & Geuhi in the same window would be a challenge but I think we also have to recognise that there may be the occasional summer window where circumstances conspire against us & we just have to suck it up, try to use the incoming funds wisely & as best we can try to maintain a settled platform - it should not be overlooked that under our current purchasing strategy & OG guidance we currently have a lot more star players in the group than we have ever had before.

Well to be fair, 2 or 3 teams simply bought that success and then they put a stop to it. Unfortunately it is too late to stop them remaining big and successful now and everyone else has to struggle to do it the hard way.

As gutting as this is, it's a lot better than the rumours of him going to Spurs for a lower fee. He's given us five years and two trophies and a lot of great memories and hopefully the fee we get will be a building block to more success. If Eze doesn't play tonight then I hope Esse is given the chance to show he can step up as that would give everyone a lift.

We aren't operating a get rich today scheme, Parish won't sell if he thinks it'll damage us, hence keeping Wilf, and I think he'd have kept Eze if Spurs didn't meet a price.

I think so too. It isn’t just the money. I’ve said it before, it’s about reputation. We have some seriously rich and successful owners who know a thing or two. Forego £20 mil by selling Eze next summer will be less than the money we’ll lose out if we stay with a reputation of accepting low offers. It probably applies to Guehi and Liverpool as well. Because we’re now churning out purchased players with resale value we can say no with a lot of confidence.
