Israel v Hamas

All civilians caught up in conflict deserve protection and humane treatment.

It should be made clear at this point, that HAMAS are not in a position to make demands about a Palestinian state, because they will play absolutely no part in it.
And I think this is the crux of the matter. which is going to see HAMAS drag this out.

Which suits the river to the sea supporters on here just fine, longer it goes on the more death in Gaza and the more likely any living hostages will die, win win for some.

Yet were told they aren't in charge and are finished

The timing of recognition of a Palestinian State, couldn't be worse. Even Trump recognises that.

But Israel's hands aren't clean either,

"
A group of some 600 retired Israeli security officials, including former heads of intelligence agencies, have written to US President Donald Trump to pressure Israel to immediately end the war in Gaza.

"It is our professional judgement that Hamas no longer poses a strategic threat to Israel," the officials said.

"Your credibility with the vast majority of Israelis augments your ability to steer Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu and his government in the right direction: End the war, return the hostages, stop the suffering," they wrote.

The possibility of a new escalation in Gaza may further anger Israel's allies which have been pushing for an immediate ceasefire as reports of Palestinians dying from starvation or malnutrition cause shock around the world.

-------

The main group supporting hostages' families condemned the idea of a new military offensive saying: "Netanyahu is leading Israel and the hostages to doom."

That view was pointedly made in the letter to Trump by former Mossad chief Tamir Pardo, Ami Ayalon, former chief of Shin Bet - Israel's domestic secret service agency - former Prime Minister Ehud Barak, and former Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon among others.

"At first this war was a just war, a defensive war, but when we achieved all military objectives, this war ceased to be a just war," said Ayalon.

The former top leaders head the Commanders for Israel's Security (CIS) group, which has urged the government in the past to focus on securing the return of the hostages.

"Stop the Gaza War! On behalf of CIS, Israel's largest group of former IDF generals and Mossad, Shin Bet, Police, and Diplomatic Corps equivalents, we urge you to end the Gaza war. You did it in Lebanon. Time to do it in Gaza as well," they wrote to the US president.

Yeah, I saw that meme the other day.

A pretty powerful dig at the media, especially old Piers Morgan.

But what I don't like about the meme is that it's directed at the English speaking world as if any of this is our responsibility.

It isn't.

The meme should be either in Hebrew or Arabic.

Then again, I suppose the US congress funds and supplies Israel.....but it certainly has nothing to do with us.

The WW2 and the left destroyed the British Empire, so we have absolutely zero power.....So we are nothing but a talking shop....even though Whitehall seems to be populated by social liberals who haven't quite understood that yet.

They hated the British Empire and cheered at its destruction but then somehow seem to think that what we say matters.

From my perspective, the cartoon isn’t really attributing any blame to Britain as a state, it’s just poking fun (if this topic can ever be fun) at our media, and indeed much of our society.

Even Piers Morgan gave up that gimmick 6m ago… there are posters on here still doing it!

The idea that anyone in the UK cares about a population thousands of miles away is about as fake as the image that cartoon is based off. It's simply politically motivated hatred against Israel. So spare me the moral grandstanding.
Some people care about those who are suffering or disadvantaged wherever and whoever they are. It’s called compassion and it’s one of the primary human traits that separates the good from the bad, the kind from the cruel.

Nothing specifically political involved, even if it seems those on the right more often than not lack compassion for those other than themselves. Describing this as “moral grandstanding” confirms this rather effectively.
