On the down-side Khallaili was vulnerable, though he did some good things and he is young and could grow into a good player. I like Richards but he is regularly exposed for pace and when anyone runs at him.

That’s pretty spot on how I saw the match today… definitely rode our luck in the first half and agree Benitez was motm.

Pretty good summing up. I’m looking forward to Richard’s being a back up rather than a starter. Which brings me to Lerma, who was our most solid defender. He should be a starter.

I am staying in Gatwick tonight before my flight tomorrow and I raised a glass to our splendid victory in the bar tonight!
After 40 mins I only envisaged one winner and was 'Spitting feathers' in a state of apoplexy, how wrong I was!! Positives and negatives about our performance but in the final analysis we emerged victorious.👏👏👍

Huge win, delighted to have got all three points against Glasner and Maranakis.

Considering this team has very few regular Premier League goalscorers in it, and few obvious leaders, we showed great spirit to come from behind and score. From about 40 minutes on it was pretty impressive.

Saw the highlights. A superb result.

Yes we were lucky in terms of Forest not taking more of their chances but what a performance from Benitez! Not something we want to be relying on too often but when called on he delivered today. It seems a run of games has got him both fit and match fit.

I also liked the way Khalaili didn't let his head drop after his blooper early on and posed a threat down the right.

We again looked bright going forward. We still have players with a cutting edge to come back or come in. Tighten up in our defensive third and I think we'll be a very exciting team to watch this season.
 
Could have easily been 3 down, which is such a shame considering how slick we looked offensively. It feels like we could have something very special, if we can sort out things a the back. Goals win games, and conversely, conceding goals out of nothing are punches to the gut. So many of the defensive issues seam so basic they must be fixable....surely.....

A couple of examples yesterday that I felt looked weak in real time, and then confirmed on the highlights.
First up the goal. Thats a mad place on the pitch to be attempting a pass back, especially one that was so readable. But is Lerma too high? If he was another 10 yards deeper that ball is nodded back to him. Or did he come to potentially win the ball and Khalaili took it?

2nd example, ball sent up to Wood. Canvot comes inside to try to win it

And leaves Richards stuck underneath. Wood then winsthe flick on and Ndoye is through, with Richards ultimately doing well to catch up.

Last example, crossing position, Wood the only danger. Canvot not in the best position, but still touch tight.

I must admit to making an error on my analysis of the alleged handball by Khalaili. In the Rules the only reason for disallowing a goal after the ball hits an arm in a natural position is if it goes into or leads to the goal. Having seen replays I think we dodged one there. Anyway we deserve some luck and Darren England owes us at least one for stitching us up so many times. Mea Maxima Culpa!

Lerma can’t be any deeper there or else he’s playing everyone onside with a huge gap between him and the next defender in the line. He’s right where he should be.

It was just a poor choice from Khalaili. It happens, and he did well not to let his head drop.
 
Magnificent performance by Benitez, he has done really well especially in this game however I would have a fit Henderson back in the team.

I would say that the first half was some of the most chaotic defending I have ever seen from a Palace team in 5 decades of supporting the team. We were lucky not be 3-0 down. We do look great going forward as defined by our xg of 2.38 against 2.97 for Forest.

It’s really hard to know what our best defence is, Lerma is so useful at set pieces which is an important part of the game and reads the game well. Although I guess injuries will play a natural part in shaping the composition of the team.

Thrilled with the result and second half performance. Hopefully we can cut out the basic errors and drill down into a more resilient back line. We seem to be able to score goals so this would be amazing and we did keep a clean sheet for 45 minutes in the second half. Building blocks…
