The original 9 years ago is superb. This new series is just as good because production values are just as high, the acting cannot be bettered and Mark Rylance is probably the best small screen actor we have. This is what the BBC does better than anyone else and should concentrate on. Forget the woke - concentrate on what it does best.

It is a classy historical drama, heaped in facts. I have read a few books on Cromwell and Henry 8th, and the drama seems very authentic.
I have read the books and loved the original show. I am taping the current one so I can binge watch it.

I love this period of our history so many interesting stories.

Cromwell's brilliance doesn't get the chance to shine too often. He was fluent in French, German and Italian (I think), having travelled extensively in Europe when younger. and had legal training too. Not bad for a working class lad.

He was a brilliant operator in Henry V111’s court. What is mesmerising for me I. Rylance’ s performance are his eyes and the way they express his innermost thoughts of what he knows one false step will lead to. One of the best things the much maligned BBC has done in years.

good new stuff from the beeb is becoming very rare indeed.

I won't watch anything where Black people are portraying White people.

Double standards have to be rejected.

i disagree. You CAN sometimes watch these things for the comedy value. See the World through Lefty distorted eyes.

My favourite example ? The movie 'Mary, Queen of Scots' starring Saoirse Ronan. Step into a hardcore Presbyterian Church in Scotland of the 1500's.......and you could be forgiven for mistaking the congregation of Scots for the crowd at a Jerk Chicken shop in West Croydon 2024.
And all the po faced Lefties see absolutely nothing wrong with their interpretation of History. Surely its Gary Linekar's favourite movie.

And the other re-invented history ? is the LGBTQ narrative being lauded as a virtue in itself and becoming the central tenet of the whole story ? Alexander the Great ( Colin Farrell ) and Barbarians against Romans at the Teutoberg Forest ( Armenius with a high ranking boyfriend). is Woke politics re-inventing our history ?

Wolf Hall ........... i havent seen the new series. But i am expecting a lecture about Climate Change causing the Break with Rome, the disestablishment of the monasteries and Henry viii's fertility problems.

You can watch them if you like PV.

I'll keep watching old stuff from when the world was relatively sane.

Try going to live theatre. They have had colour blind casting for years and now I don’t even notice it. As I said just look at the interpretation. It’s called acting, something we do quite well in Britain.

the Michael Fassbender Macbeth was fantastic. The Denzel Washington Macbeth was turgid.
Denzel ....brilliant in American Gangster.....but couldnt do a scottish accent.

And his Lady Macbeth was Francis mcDormand.....brilliant in Fargo, but too old (64) and too american to be the mad wife.

Wolf Hall is good because it is believable.

Don't be deliberately obtuse.

When a White man can play Kunta Kinte or Shaka Zulu, come back to me with your 'colour blind' observations.

Your erudite reply demonstrates why I do not come on here often. And your photo looks strangely like the past president of the NRA.
So you can't justify the obvious double standards?

Of course not, because they are so apparent.

Although, your stupid inference is the typical kind of response you get from irrational 'progressive' lame brains who cannot see what is in front of their eyes.

a good actor can sometimes perform a miracle. Joe Biden played a mentally healthy politician.

It's not about the acting.
I appreciate that Black actors might not have many good parts in historical dramas, but there is more here than the careers of actors.
It is about the misrepresentation of history. It is the kind of thing you might expect when one's history and heritage is being deliberately undermined by those with an agenda.
If the woke stop whining about cultural appropriation, black face, inappropriate racial casting and the rest, then I will chill out about a Henry VIII's courtiers being Black.

What next? Winston Churchill played by RuPaul? Joan of Arc played by Oprah Winfrey? It's ridiculous and offensive.
