What do we need

It might sound strange but in order to get a deep enough squad I'd say the two players we need to upgrade/replace the most are Ward and Clyne, players who can play in the back three or as full backs. Whoever we get as understudy to Munoz will have to have pace, without Riad we've only got four central defenders (inc Lerma) so it's these Joe Gomez, Ben Davies types we need who can play in the back three or as cover for the wing backs. Having said that we may have to make a clear distinction between the wing back position and the back three since pace is required under Glasner's system to play wide, which will mean having to get more than three players in, unless we can find the next Kyle Walker, who could do all three jobs: cb, fb and wb.

The price Liverpool are asking - somewhere around 30 million - is exorbitant for somebody who was out for most of last year with hamstring injuries, would probably not be a starter for us and would have little sell on value. I'm hoping it is a diversion

Charlton fans are desperate for Pool to sell him as he has a sell on clause and they need the money. It's a perennial for them ever transfer window a bit like us signing Nugent.

I didn't realise we kept Clyne, never lets us down but it must be his last season for us and we do need an upgrade, and we don't want to be ripped off by Liverpool again, considering his injury record (I don't know what his contract situation is) I'd have thought about 12mil for Gomez, or a loan, but it's good to see we're going for the right type of defender early in the window. Good old Ollie. 🙂

It makes sense, Marc is a sensible lad. Unless Liverpool can guarantee him his place he would be better off staying at Palace for one more season. Of course this depends on the idiot England manager recognising that he is our back CB.

Someone mentioned about Gomez 30m being exorbitant what do you expect the guy has had 15 England caps and is a Liverpool player so the price sounds around what you would expect.
