Wharton

When did you get your degree in sports medicine? Shame the club didn’t ring for your advice on managing Adam’s injury. He wouldn’t have missed so many matches.
FFS are people not allowed to have opinions anymore.

It's a fair comment to make as he was clearly injured at the beginning of the season.
I suspect Palace tried to manage the injury as we were light in the CM position at that time.

Of course everyone can have an opinion.

Its just bound to get a bit of a reaction when people think they know way more about a situation (from their armchair) than all the physios, doctors and other medical professionals know working with the player every day!

Do not criticize our medical team. Its not their fault. Footballers get injured a lot. Its all very predictable. Our senior management needs to factor that into the normal run of events. We need strength and depth.
Its a very tall order for a club with financial resources beneath that of the Champions League giants.

Its difficult to say whether our constant enormous injury list is bad luck or bad management. The only thing that matters to me is that Wolves, Everton & Southampton also feel the pinch of injured players.

A fully fit squad, mid season, is a bit like a hot date with Scarlett Johansson. A pleasant fantasy.

One of the issues interested fans struggle with is lack of information.
I had heard Wharton had a groin strain and that he would need an op to rectify the problem. I heard that would be 4-6 weeks recovery.
Now Ive heard via other fans on here that the problem was a a groin hernia.
Wharton has clearly had a flare and there is an issue to be dealt with. OG has indicated this could be at least 3 weeks. Hopefully whatever the problem is will be resolved in time.
Personally I would like to think all our players are in good hands at Palace with care and support. From our coaches through to physios then right through to surgeons (when required) we are dealing with very valuable commodities so I can't believe we cut any corners.
For whatever reason (and that is fully the club choice) Palace do not provide on going detailed information on most things.
So here is hoping for the best. 2-3 weeks to have him back in training would be great.

It was reported on by several outlets that it was a hernia.

Nice pictures and model of a new stand though.

Glasner was unwilling to put a timescale on Wharton coming back.

This does not smack of an imminent return.

It would appear that after the operation , the healing process is not necessarily straightforward with discomfort that can’t be satisfactorily dealt with by injections.
It’s a shame for the player and a shame for the team as there is nobody else in the squad with the same skill set.

With another young player, Franca, it would seem he’s out until at least the latter part of February.

In simple terms we need to strengthen in January.

Yes, his interview comments didn’t fill me with optimism. Wharton was playing with the help of injections before his op, he was nowhere near his usual performance levels. We need a fully fit Wharton and this sounds as though it could be some way off.

Depressingly his return pushed forward again to 15 January.

Franca now not to the end of February.

With Franca he remains the enigma we will probably never know. Match fit Wharton will be a game changer.

Even when Wharton is fit to return, it will take him time regain his match fitness, accordingly I am not expecting to witness the Wharton of last season for some weeks.

It is all sounding like unknown time frame I'm afraid. As you say Willo, he is going to have to rehabilitate the repaired area and then get fit. Could easily be months from when he went off. As for Franca, there is so little information but the longer his time with us progresses, the more he is looking like he has got similar problems to Connor Wickham and Ferguson. One injury compounding another.

The last update from Olly suggested Franca was progressing well and should be back training with the squad early in the new year. If that goes well he will need games with the under 21s to get match fit and be available for selection around the end of February.
Hopefully Wharton is back a little sooner!

Is there a fear that Wharton gets up to match speed by march, we then get him for 2 months and then knowing our luck he is sold off to city or somebody, giving us about 8 to 9 months out of him in total.

Obviously hope that’s not the case as that would be Olise levels of depressing.

Sadly, that sounds about right.

The big difference is that we will be naming the price not like Olise, as Wharton does not have a release clause.
