West Ham match thread

You sell two players who would play on a Friday and new signings aren't ready. How exactly were we expected to get anything from this? It's quite farcical. I presume Glasner was making a point about the squad with his selections and subs.
This is on the Dougie and Parish.

I didn't see the game so I don't know if this was sung there, but a couple of Hammeroid nephews sought me out and started singing: To the tune of The Okey Cokey
Oh Aaron Wan Bissaka. Oh Aaron Wan Bissaka. Oh Aaron Wan Bissaka
He's OUR right back Rah Rah Rah.
Gits!
How did he play by the way?

AWB set up their first goal. Just to pick up how good Soucek and Bowen were in getting the ballboy out from under the collapsed hoarding, unlike the ease end morons who collapsed it and were still jumping up and down oblivious to the danger they had caused.

sorry that should read 'east end morons'.

I've hardly looked at this site since leaving the ground, so I don't know whether this is the only mention of that incident. Injuries or worse could have occurred, and the authorities have simply got to act. My modest suggestion - maybe too modest - would be that at the very least players should not be allowed to go beyond the touchline (which at the London Stadium would certainly keep them out of trouble!). In the sixties and later a scorer would get a pat on the back and a couple of handshakes and they'd all trot back to halfway - blimey, what innocent days.

Two very disappointing results - IMO 6 points thrown away both Brentford and West Ham we had the chances to win and should have won both games..!!

Parish has got to take some/a lot of responsibility for this - our transfer dealings/strategy have been nothing short of shambolic..!!

I just don’t understand it we took out a £150M loan against future player sales ahead of the window - yep good strategy - meantime we’ve spent what £25M`?? Despite raising £80M in transfer incomings..!!

Then to compound it you sell Andersen on a Friday with no replacement in place - Ayew I’m not so bothered about - at least I won’t have to look at his surly face again - but still needs replacing..!!

What the hell is going on..??

Lacroix is an open goal just waiting to be signed - it’s obvious we need a left footed attacker - why we signed Sarr I’ll never know - just not required and a waste of money..!!

Look we need 3 signings this week minimum - get Lacroix over the line, a left footed attacker and a left wing back - but now we’re into the period where transfer fees will be at a premium and competition for signings high..!!

But as I said at the top that’s all down to Parish - well Steve dilly and dallying is done - now is the time to act decisively..!!

We will see..!!

Read the match report in the ST. Not one mention of Palace other that Bissa wotshisname
used to be a Palace player. All about spam.
For the vast majority of the media Palace are just the opposition.

My tuppence worth on Riad -
Probably didnt even know he was in line to start todays game until Andersen emptied his locker Friday night -
Made one very poor clearance pass str8 to WH player on about 10 minutes, they didn't take full advantage of it so we got away with it after a fashion, that hit his confidence hard for about another 10 minutes & anyone could see he was struggling, to their credit the team rallied around him & kept including him in the game, he then stroked a beautiful 30 yard ball forward which curled into Eze,s path & his confidence started to return, he never gave up, didnt try to hide & even though WH targeted him I thought overall despite that difficult start he put in a good shift - for my money, he will start on Tuesday, he will play well & he will come good.

Riad is very inexperienced, his appearances in La Liga mount to only 27 games, accordingly it might take him time to adjust to the challenges and rigours of the PL.

Over the first 2 games we have created enough chances to get something out of both games. Thought the defending has not been flash for all the goals we have let in and we have been unlucky with some of Eze's efforts. We just need to sharpen up a bit around both boxes. I also agree with an earlier post relating to the defending of WHU's corners. We were fortunate not to concede in the first half when they won the first ball and there were a free player at far post that could have had a tap in if the ball fell more kindly for them.

I should remind you in that era (60's and 70's) were anything but calm at football matches. Regular fighting. Heavy duty incidents of construction collapses in stadiums leading to fatalities. Innocent days??? You must be joking.
Hard to believe we are relying on an electronic advertising board to support a surging crowd in the away part of the Arthur to hold back a surging crowd. Away fans have regularly surged down that open alley to the front when they score. If it wasn't for Suckek's quick thinking and strength and Bowden pulling our ball boy out as Sucek lifted the hoarding it could so easily have been a lot worse. We will be lucky to escape without some kind of regulatory penalty for that.
No matter what, all stadium should have far stronger perimeter protection than that. It literally just collapsed when a number of fans leant over it. Not good.

Not joking - I was just describing the players' goal celebrations in those days.

We all know we would be doing transfer business this week as is the Palace way. Refreshing to actually see we did do some early business in Riad and Kamada. Both need time to settle as it seems OG has them in his future plans. The 2 results so far have obviously been disappointing, perhaps the performances have merited a bit more but as a lot of have said you have got to take your chances and work as a team -Eze take note. Let's hope for something new in attack this week. COYP !!

Exactly, sadly. It seems as if he's taken on the Wilf mantle and thinks he's the one who has to do it or it won't get done. Too often in both games so far he's tried one dribble/trick too many instead of looking to pass the ball. When he had his mate Olise, their almost telepathic understanding produced magical displays, but without Olise, Ebs is not the same player.

The amount of the loan keeps going up every time it's mentioned. Most people have claimed that it was £50m but no-one really knows

In saying this, I do believe we have been slightly less explosive in our attacking phases this season, and consequently, the opposition has been able to get men behind the ball. We're just not getting the space in front of the box like we were at the end of last season and so Eze soon finds he's got three around him. He's also been unlucky with the disallowed goal and then hitting the bar this week. This weekend did see an improvement over last week but I feel it will still take a few weeks of the squad training together before the pace picks up further. That will give Mateta more chances and will hopefully lead to more goals.
