Why is it fantasy? What downsides are there to having Russia more integrated with Europe? Putin openly said he wanted closer relations. Openly said he wanted to even join NATO. Putin came in and cleared out swathes of crooks who had robbed the Russian people blind (and a lot of them ended up in the UK and pouring a lot of money into politics here which explains hell of a lot). Putin over-saw a massive increase in the standard of living for the average Russian. Putin actually LEADS his nation.

And we get what? Johnson? Starmer? Macron? These people have done nothing other than weaken their nations. The only European 'leader' worthy of the title is Orban. The rest are just bought and paid for toadies.

Putin has improved outcomes for Russia from when he took over, people don't realise how unpopular figures like Yeltsin were and how badly Russia crashed economically....Anyway, none of that makes a hill of beans for us here in Blighty.

I fully agree with you that Orban is the only leader in Europe who actually cares about his people.....He is a 'somewhere', not an 'anywhere'.....No betrayal of his people's future from him.

At the end of the day, Ukraine was a self-governing, sovereign nation that was illegally invaded by a hostile aggressor. The audacity for you to try and dictate to Ukrainians what they must accept is off the charts.

Yep, in the sense that he's going to continue to take Ukrainian land and Ukraine lose more men that they need....the longer they go without ending the war the worst it gets.

Putin has mostly kept the core of actual middle class European Russians away from the war.....lots of diaspora 'Russians' fighting in his military.

That's fine then. Keep the war going keep loosing lives. Also keep letting Russia take more and more ground.

If Ukraine don't make a deal now it will be 10 times worse the one they eventually agree too when they have no option left.

Is he a good guy.....Not in my opinion.

British built, supplied and no doubt targetted missiles have landed in Russia and killed its citizens.
British special forces have been involved in destroying Russian infastructure such as the Nord Stream 2 pipe-line.
British naval forces have sunk Russian ships.

And yet I cannot see any single case of Russian missiles hitting the UK. Or Russian special forces blowing up infastructure here in the UK. Or British ships being sunk.

We are not the good guys in this.

However, it's a denial of reality that means that plenty have. Ukraine couldn't afford this war on so many fronts.

This war was warned about going back to 2008 and at the very least there should have been a deal in 2022.

While I fully agree that our policy has been counter productive and led to worst outcomes for us.....I can't take against our own troops in a war....Even if I disagree with them being there....and as you correctly state, they have been.....though I don't know about involvement with Nord stream? Wasn't that Ukraine/US?

Putin has been better for Russia but he's also KGB and while I agree that we missed out on engagement with Russia that would have brought them more into the 'west'....instead of them now turning east (which makes things far worse), I also understand that he views Russia as a separate empire with its own interests......He's right to, however that doesn't mean he's our friend.

I'm more for Orban personally.
