US Politics

What double standards are there?

That they are perceived doesn’t mean they exist. Trump has always accused others of that he is himself guilty. It’s the standard response to criticism he learned from Roy Cohn.

The puzzle is why so many fall for it.

Yes Biden issued some pardons but they were primarily intended to protect the innocent from malicious, vindictive prosecution. Contrast that with pardoning 1600 people convicted of trying to overthrow democracy.

Trump is still banging on about him being the target of political Lawfare. He says it so often people start to accept it as real. It isn’t. He did things. Charges were correctly brought, which he had the total freedom to defend. The law was in action. Not politics.
Time for me to switch off politics threads for a while. All these threads are going nowhere now....

I'll stick to Palace comments and why Eze has lost his mojo, but still, he is pivotal to our successes going forward.

The pardoning of 1600 rioters, and Trump’s defence of it, are among the worst things we have witnessed from him in the last 2 days. There have been a huge number of very bad things done.

That there isn’t though an outpouring of condemnation from all quarters, whatever their political beliefs, is quite shocking and undermines my belief in the common sense possessed by most people. Perhaps though they need time to process it and now feel ashamed of themselves for defending this man in the past.

One thing I read this morning did restore my faith a little. It was a statement from one of the convicted rioters who Trump pardoned, Pam Hemphill. She has refused to accept the pardon, saying:-

"Accepting a pardon would only insult the Capitol police officers, rule of law and, of course, our nation.

I pleaded guilty because I was guilty, and accepting a pardon also would serve to contribute to their gaslighting and false narrative.

This is rewriting history and I don't want to be part of that.

We were wrong that day, we broke the law - there should be no pardons."

Well done Pam. Your attitude is, with effort and determination, what will save the USA.
