That’s exactly what the DHSC expects! Put up enough barriers and prevaricate and the issue will eventually disappear.

It’s not my way. I know I am right. There’s not any doubt at all. We have been shafted. Sure I can survive without it but that’s not the point. I fight when things like this happen.
 
I think if the USA is going to survive as a cohesive single state.....and i'll be no shock to those who have read my humble views over the years that I don't think that is possible.....then it's going to have to undergo several changes to presidential powers.

The pardon system has been abused since before Clinton.....though Clinton really upped that ante. It's now becoming a joke. Personally, while I think pardons are a feature of the American system I think they should be restricted. Reduce the number a president can give, something like five maybe, get rid of this ridiculous idea of pre-emptive pardons, that's insane. A president having immunity? I can see the sense for that during their years in office but not outside them.

The Democrats really brought this all onto themselves. They could have avoided a second Trump term quite easily but they decided on 'all or nothing'.....it's their MO it seems. There is a lack of common sense and a lack of checks and balances within their own thinking. The TDS helped Trump as it made his opposition look unhinged and thus independents weren't impressed. The biggest factor was always the economy with the border a close second and the Democrats did badly on both....well on the second their motivations were quite naked.

Now Trump has been given a mandate with control of both houses and with winning the popular vote. Like Musk said the 'hammer of justice' is coming....I and others warned about this long ago......it's why the Biden White House is going to spend its remaining time in office looking to escape the kind of retribution they visited upon Trump and his supporters. They made this bed and now they are going to have to lie in it.

They will be shameless in the remaining time left in doing all they can to escape accountability.....will it work? I guess we are going to find out.
 
I'm not sure how you could define it in law but a President should only really pardon someone for 2 reasons.

1. A miscarriage of justice, the person is innocent.
2. The sentence is not proportionate to the crime e.g. life for jaywalking.

Hunter Biden has already plead guilty to both charges so option 1 is not relevant.

He was due to be sentenced for both the gun charges and tax evasion in December which will not happen now. So option 2 has never come into play.

I can't think of any other valid reason why you would over rule the judicial system.

In the UK we have recognised that miscarriage of justice can occur and that it is better for the legal system to address this rather than a Royal pardon. To that end we have made changes to the Appeals system and set up a miscarriage of justice commission. The US really should follow us.
 
An interesting, revealing interview between Carlson and Greenwald that tackles the somewhat mysterious changes that happen when politicians from both Democratic and Republican parties enter the top levers of power......Where they will flip almost entirely on previous positions.

There's a kind of dark humour to the double standards on display in world affairs.

Israel's move into Syria and massive bombing runs into the state are 'security' and largely ignored. Yet Russia's move and bombing into Ukraine are 'aggression' and have the kitchen sink thrown at it.

Actions matter less than a friend/enemy distinction. Different day, same banana.

The geo-political landscape is like swiss cheese for anyone actually observing this stuff.

That's not to say that I think what Israel are doing in Syria isn't common sense......If I were them I would see this opportunity as a rare gift.

However the difference in reactions are a cause for slight amusement.

Interestingly, Trump put him there in 2017, on a 10 year term. Now the guy is jumping ship before Trump gets into office.
The reasoning isn't clear, but I'll take a shot , without having my ear to the ground. I wonder if it could be linked to the lack of security when Trump got shot, and the now evaporated trust between the President-elect and the FBI ?
Because I think Trump has already taken Wray off his Christmas card list, and that Wray's pending retirement is going to be exceedingly uncomfortable.

i wonder will the Left and the Right in the US turn into something similar to Spain 1936 ? Stranger things have happened. And both sides seem to be spoiling for a fight.
Certainly nobody anymore seems to respect the outcomes of democratic elections. A bit like Brexiters & Remoaners here.

A sensible decision. Trump has already said he wants a new Director so why hang around like a bad smell. This way he goes with a bit of dignity.

More likely he knew he would be sacked immediately after Jan 6th and this way means he can protect the FBI’s integrity and its people more effectively. He is unlikely to remain silent for long and will doubtless be writing a book and making observations from sofas. He will be the link that the senior FBI staff use to tell the people what is going on.

The Democrats have accepted their loss without any of the nonsense that Trump did in 2020, let alone actually to try to stop it via direct action.

Only one side is at fault. Yet the people still chose them. That’s what’s crazy.

It’s nothing at all like Brexit. No one here is trying to act undemocratically. Any reversal would be handled correctly.

Wait for the antifa riots when trump officially takes office. Then come back to apologise for such a silly statement. You know it’s goner happen but this time trump and the national guard will be ready and with all the pardons for the 6 th there will be plenty of jail space .

They didn't have much option other than to accept it - it was such a landslide victory.

"Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been admitted to hospital after sustaining an unspecified injury during an official trip to Luxembourg, her office said on Friday.

Pelosi, 84, is "currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals", spokesperson Ian Krager said in a statement."

Hopefully not an unfortunate fall from a balcony, which seems to happen rather a lot these days

Trump doesn't seem the sort to inflict violence. I do , however, think that Mr Stephanopoulos is watching the end of his career and this was an attempt at damage limitation by his employer.
Trump will get to them when he takes power.
