The press conference of all press conferences

Agreed, the slow piecemeal plan is always a risk as it depends on a) continuous good recruitment and b) a lot of luck. 3 stands (and Sainsbury's) need knocking down and redesigning to get a proper capacity back, and that must involve ground sharing. That corporate stand will be useless in the championship. Mind you after today's news we might not even get that.
We will get the new main stand but waiting years for further improvement is not going to get us where we want. Investors who actually want sporting success is the way forward if we are to achieve the next level. Speculation for accumulation.

Now is as good a time as any for Glasner to announce his intention to leave. Parish has had plenty of time to start evaluating a replacement, and current players didn't have to deal with the distraction during the December rush. For players arriving during this window (Brennan Johnson excepted), they won't feel as if Glasner abandoned them.

Also, now is a very good time for Guehi to leave. He'll bring the club £20+, rather than leaving us high and dry in the summer. Losing him for the remainder of the season is difficult, but Lacroix, Richards, and Canvot (with help from Lerma) should suffice. Our recent poor spell was mostly the result of missing Muñoz, Sarr, Kamada, and Richards during the most demanding month in memory. Mateta's slump, combined with Nketiah's injury, didn't help, either.

I don’t think this is a huge shock, to be honest. Glasner feels like one of those managers who makes a strong impact quickly, and to be fair he and the squad did exactly that. But was he ever going to build a five- to ten-year dynasty? Probably not.

If you look at his career pattern, it’s familiar. Goes into a club, has success, hits certain targets, then things start to plateau. The football gets found out, transfer disagreements creep in, and eventually there’s friction with the board. There’s a bit of history there now, and it feels like we’ve reached that point again.

Football runs in cycles, and Palace are no different. When Roy came back, we played some excellent attacking football for about 8-10 weeks before everything reverted back to type. It feels similar now. OG’s system looks like it’s been worked out in some respects.

We’re a very good counter-attacking side. Always have been. But we’re not particularly strong playing on the front foot, breaking teams down week after week. I don’t think OG is the manager to fundamentally change that if that’s the direction the club wants to go.

I’ll be honest, I’d be slightly worried about Gareth Southgate coming in. I’m not convinced he has the tactical plan or club-level philosophy that fits what we need right now. That said, there are plenty of good managerial options out there.

I also can’t really see OG settling into a long spell anywhere else either. He feels like an “impact” manager rather than someone who embeds himself for multiple seasons. In that sense, he’s a bit Roy Mark II. Roy was brilliant at organising teams and tightening things up, but once the opposition sat deep, we often ran out of ideas - and that was a pattern in his career (see England)

None of that takes away from what OG gave us over the last 12 months. He delivered moments and performances that most of us never thought we’d see at Palace. For that, he’ll always be welcome at Selhurst Park.

But if you look at the parallels with the end of the Patrick Vieira era, you can see the same patterns starting to form.

Recruitment goes in cycles too. The last major reset was around five years ago under Vieira, and it feels like we’re heading into another one now.

The next manager will get a summer window, some backing, and the chance to reshape the squad where it’s needed. For now, the rest of the season is about consolidation. Get through it safely, maybe push on in the Conference League if possible, and reset properly in the summer.

Will we miss OG? Possibly. But this feels like one of those moments where the timing was just right. Right club, right manager, right moment. Those things don’t last forever, and we can’t really ask for more than what we got.

And finally, from the club’s perspective, £20m for Guehi is very good business when he is going anyway

It was a chapter worth having. Now it’s closing, and it’s probably the right time to turn the page.

We're never going to top landing in Newcastle in administration, but landing in Sunderland with the captain and manager off and the striker able to go is quite something.

He has to leave with immediate affect, he now has a conflict of interest, if it is, say Man utd, he would want them to finish above Palace, its obvious, is he going to try ridiculous tactics, and styles as a test for his new job, its impossible for him to motivate players, he is not a man of honour, leave now, even Paddy, He knew in October he was going, a start of our decline, Parish knew, he will be a laughing stock if OG stays, he is a mercenary.

Southgate is currently not employed in football management. 😛
Nor Pardew - he might be interested in an 'Interim' role to end of season. 😛

disagree, If I was Glasner, I'd want Palace to finish above them so when I turn them round it'd look even more impressive!!

In recent months, privately, I have expressed my grave concerns about the prospects for our club, taking all factors into consideration, and today's announcements have certainly not added to my apprehension as there has been no element of surprise.
Key players have departed, our captain's departure is imminent, others will probably follow before next season and of course our manager is departing for 'Pastures new'.
We are in 'Pitchy seas' perhaps holed below the waterline.
thats years as a Palace fans we always ready for something bad to happen , winning the FA cup changed my belief in the club , it was a big leap and we have had a wobble , but as you know after each wobble we bounce back , the younger fans wont get that , its another step in the Palace path forward COYP

I await our deftly coiffured chairmans explanations.around this.

Best manager we have had in years, one a cup, built a good team.

Then we have made a mess of our ownership.structire that has proved costly, not backed said manager to push on and in fact continues to sell out best players from under him. By not backing said manager he walks

But he did do something good many years ago so it's all ok.

I am also concerned about who we sel to sign this window as we need players but now not 'Glasner,' players.

Still I hear Roy is standing by his phone...
.

Very few clubs can keep their assets regardless of size. SP, OG and Dougie Freedman helped get the club in the position we are in. Procuring top players then getting the best out of them, increasing the value of these players so that if and when sold we have the finances to find decent replacements. It’s what we do with the proceeds that matters then, if we reinvest well we will continue to succeed. After all we won the FA Cup in May being the size of club that we are. Thirteen successive seasons in the PL is proof the club's strategy is working. I have no doubt the club will continue to progress. COYP
Recruitment and retention are easier if you are further up the pyramid. You can attract better players and pay them more. It is also about the next generations aspiring to play for Palace instead of say Arsenal or Liverpool. We need to inspire.
