The Prem Relegation Dogfight

Watching the Ipswich game and they are now 1-0 up. Absolutely hilarious attempt at a clearance from Bassey just handed them a goal. Ipswich look well organised and dangerous when they go direct.

Leicester were 16th when Van Nistelrooy was handed the reins.
They achieved a win and draw in his first 2 games but this has been followed by 5 defeats in succession.
Our game against them is huge. They have to win it. We can’t afford to lose it. If we win we are starting to pull clear of the relegation fight. If we lose we are right back in the mix. Could be a key game in our season

100%

Lets hope it goes with form. Big run of fixtures coming up for us now.

They need the win. We just need to ensure we don't lose (although a win for us would be very nice). Current form says that we're not in the relegation fight and if we can continue showing this form over the next five league games we should be in mid-table come our trip to Craven Cottage.

Current form does say that. Current points don’t. Still only 5 points clear so potentially only two bad results from being the relegation places. Important we come through January with another couple of wins and not losing any key players in the window.

That's true but Ipswich and Leicester have only won 3 games each from 20 and drawn 7 & 5 respectively. We've only won 4 but have drawn 9. Add Everton and Wolves to the mix, with Southampton effectively already out of it, and we're not looking too bad.

Feels like 36 points would be enough this season that’s 15 more from 18 games. Surely even if we lost to Leicester we can do that.
You would certainly hope so given it’s roughly in keeping with our points per game tally so far. Would like to make it a non issue with some wins in the next couple of months though. Certainly taking a point here and there against the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle has helped. Last season Luton had a second half of the season collapse but I don’t really see that with Ipswich, Wolves or Everton. Hopefully Leicester get a points deduction for breaching FFP or better still all 100 or so Man City charges are upheld and they are docked 10000 points

Ten points by the end of February - very achievable - and we will be safe for the end of the season.
I think we are gaining traction now and if Wharton can get back soon, I see us as formidable foes.
Some more goals obviously but we are on the right path again and will avoid involvement

Every season it is said: "If we can get xx points from the remaining xx games we'll be alright"...
The failure to move on after 11 seasons and to talk about relegation each and every season is a clear reflection of what the club is - how could it not be? I'd even go as far to say that the board are content with this state of affairs, that is, a 14th place finish is just fine and dandy in the great scheme of things.
On the one hand it's a pragmatic viewpoint, on the other it's very frustrating.

I am sure we will flirt a little bit more with the bottom 3 before with the annual purple patch and finish 12th-10th.

I have a feeling we will loose to Leicester cue a meltdown and then we will be fine. We are due a loss or two as we have only lost to arsenal in the last couple of games.

It is a bit frustrating to be no further ahead but there are at least 8 clubs who are far ahead of us in terms of resources. Leaving them aside we're in the middle of the other 12 which isn't that bad. It's hard to see how we can move on since we can't buy top stars and any young players who do well for us get picked off by the money clubs.

If Man CIty get an automatic relegation as punishment, another three clubs still go down

We finish 10-15 every season. If we had kept Olise and obtained the best left wing back money could buy we would been in with a good shout of a European spot for once. As it is, things have gone the other way. I think we are 14th best team in the division (West Ham are worse with no Bowen or Antonio) but injuries and relative lack of purchases could still be our undoing. Underbidding for Championship players at clubs pushing for promotion doesn't bode well for the January window

If you want to have a moan about lack of ambition, Steve P, the Americans etc etc, there are plenty of other threads to choose from. This one is called relegation dogfight.
