The Politics of 'Climate-change'

What a load of bull. Suddenly life and liberty trump being poor and depressed because they have nothing.
Is it mass suicide that hmg want which will reduce co2 emissions unless they are cremated of course šŸ˜‚
Energy prices are far higher due to green levies that the poor and the rest of us are forced to pay.

Bellamy is a lot more qualified than Attenborough for example. also eminently more qualified than any of the politicians who spout on the subject.

I am tempted to write something about the knowledge of the deluded Cornwall based know-it-all, but will decline to do so.

What the hell would one of the worldā€™s foremost experts on nature know about climate change. Ffs wissie sort his view out. It was only his opinion after all šŸ˜³
I had to search for this as the link wouldnā€™t play, but I found it. Itā€™s obviously very old and out of date. He is talking nonsense. Ignorant piffle. He might have been an enthusiastic nature lover but his dismissal of scientific modelling and the scientists who do it demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of this subject. Something that those interviewing him were obviously quite shocked to hear and not shy to point out.

If you want to watch an informed, serious appraisal, the one following his is much more thought provoking:-

An enthusiastic nature lover with a BSc and a PhD.

If I was after scientific opinion on a subject, I would dismiss opinions from a Doctor and applaud those of a Film Director, because the Director is obviously so much better informed and credible,....and he agrees with me.
Science should be devoid of emotion and politics. It's about using existing data to make predictions, and sometimes opinions come into play.
I say Climate Change is happening, and we are beyond the tipping point. Am I going to re-mortgage my house to buy a Tesla, whilst air travel is increasing across the globe ?

On botany! Not climate science. I am an enthusiastic Palace supporter. It doesnā€™t make me Oliver Glasner.

If you listen to his arguments they are just plain wrong, making the kind of errors many made 20 years ago, which was when this interview must have been recorded. He equates weather with climate. The kind of mistake that many used to make and which, unfortunately, some apparently still do.

It seems he changed his mind as he got older. So there is still some hope.

Putnam is far from just a Film Director. He is involved because he cares and because he is a communicator. Watch the video! He has chaired a committee of experts on this subject and produced informative reports on which policy has been based. Thereā€™s no emotion that underlies the science. Only emotions because of the paucity of the response.

As he says, yes itā€™s late but itā€™s never too late to make a difference. Individuals are powerless, so you buying a Tesla and drowning in debt is not the answer. It requires global action. That primarily means that our survival as a species needs to start being regarded as more important than profit.

The world wonā€™t die. We might though.

Not someone who was unfamiliar with scientific theory. Obviously your training equips you better.

Not for a while though. And since there isn't anything "we" can do it's up to the politicians in whom you put so much faith.

I used to love seeing this great man on the TV talking to us about the world we live in. He was dropped because he didn't toe the global warming line and since then all we have had is David Attenborough telling us that the world is dying and it's all our fault! David Attenborough has made a very good living out of toeing the political line. True story

If you watched the interview you will realise he dismisses scientific modelling out of hand. Which is transparent nonsense in this context because there is no other way to do it. He was arguing for proof! If he was alive today I guess he would acknowledge it exists.

Bellamy always was an entertaining old buffer. That was his appeal. My training taught me where my limitations lie and when to defer to experts. My skills, if they exist, are like Putnamā€™s, in communication. I doubt whether a climate scientist would have challenged Bellamy on the lifecycle of a dandelion. He doesnā€™t seem to have felt so restrained.

As we choose our politicians there is much we can do about it.

We need campaigners like Putnam to make the case.

We need to defeat those who argue that profit now is more important than life tomorrow.

I guess that things will have to get a great deal worse before thereā€™s any real prospect of them getting better. Thatā€™s not to say that the science we need to overcome the issues cannot continue. Only that it wonā€™t be implemented on a large enough scale.

I suspect mankind will face a huge catastrophe in the next 100 years, with enormous losses of life and the breakdown of the current global order. Whether we survive as a species is questionable but if we do it will be in a changed way to that we have today.

People that talk bs tend to get dropped.

David Attenborough doesnā€™t so he hasnā€™t been.

As he is now 98 Attenborough could have enjoyed a well earned cosy retirement for the last 33 years. He hasnā€™t. So why? It can only be because he cares passionately about the planet and us. Not because he wants or needs more money.

so you are happy to believe a television company on Climate change ? a tv company that lies, spins, propaganda-ises and bv.llsh1ts us all the time.

But, they must be telling us the truth on Climate change ?

Not the I loved "Grapple my Grape nuts" David Bellamy as a kid I trust all he says, There are so many articles debunking his points.

Another reason (amongst many) that you get different scientific opinions on Climate change, is that most scientists have a paymaster.
e.g. Look at some of the 5hlt Chris Whitty was spouting during Covid, purely because HMG was paying his wages. And a nice little Knighthood, to boot.
